Being in the room for this was gnarly
Does anyone know what mouthpiece the lead trumpet player is using?
check out ken titmus @ktcustommouthpieces he is using a piece he created and I play on a custom mouthpiece he made for me as well it is amazing but currently after this he plays on a lotus mouthpiece
gay
As a tenor sax player, hearing the Dexter quote at 11:00 was super cool
Good god this is amazing, all these players even have the POSTURE of professionals. It’s incredibly impressive
The bass player looks a couple of years short of 40....
Lol, I was 17 in the video.
!!!
As a former pro drummer -this school band is more than excellent. Kudos job well done.
I can’t remember off the top my head who is the person playing the drums in this, but go look up any other like video from the school which is the one I attend and if you just listen to them they are absolutely amazing. This is our best, jazz but we have jazz but like a middle schoolers in it too and it’s amazing
Absolutely mind-blowing....!
The young Ella Kim is a good piano player !! Very nice solo ! 😀
watching the rhythm section fist bump eachother made me happy Jazz guitar for the win!
i am impressed how professional this sounds
Reminds me that some of the best times I had was playing in my school band. Great spirit here.
💦 ᴘʀᴏᴍᴏsᴍ
Is sheet music like a foreign concept to them??? I can’t wrap my mind around it😂
Bands that go to Ellington pretty much always memorize their music! By the point they're sending in their recordings the song is drilled so far into their head they really just play to enjoy the music and get into the groove rather than reading something off a page. Of course, we always start with sheet music, but memorization allows everyone to feel the tune that much better.
I love how the Eagle flew over the band as they preformed that night
Man, Ella Kim has a fantastic and quirky touch on the piano in the first song. Really passionate and expressive. Reminded me a little of monk or Rueben Gonzales. Hyperbolic I know, but I will be checking in on what she does going forward. Very interesting style.
And the best part is that she is like that in rehearsals. I love playing with Ella.
That girl is FIRE! I LOVED it!!!🔥 🔥 🔥
Now hold on. These are High School students? Holy Cow! They are so accomplished.
BravooooO !!!!
God gave us genius musicians to entertain us this good..staying closer to them is this great fun, great kids bravooooo bravo bravo you did a great job indeed, let it only music rule the world and let it sound just this good

I saw this live at my school, and it was amazing to see it in person
I drove 3 hours from Orlando to the highschool Boca Raton just to see this. It was worth it 100%.
@@edwinbysuke too bad our theater at west boca has no sound deadening

Love Nathaniel’s energy when Marcus solos
@@kaseejay761 you think you’re funny, dawg? Check yourself
@@godspods7681 I checked myself, and I'm still fucking awesome.
oh. my. goodness. let us understand that Duke is in great hands with this generation of fabulous musicians.
I’ve never noticed this but happy go lucky local and “night train” as performed by Marvin berry and the star lighters in back to the future sound very similar and I think that’s cool and awesome
I heard the first piano chords and I knew it was go lucky
bro nathan is crazyyy yoooo😭, i’m telling you he’s gonna be the next Wayne Bergeron but better😭

Wow!
Wow wow impressive performance!!! Bravo!!!
Cant wait to see this school in the next few years with Nathaniel being lead at this competition. I for one wanted to see him play in actual bands since all I ever saw of him was solo playing but this was such a good performance. Feelin like another Summer Carmargo type personality for the trumpet community at EE. (Also what is the Snookie Young Award? is it best lead? best overall trumpet?)
The Snooky Young Award is a new award that is given to the lead trumpet player that plays with the most accuracy, style every quality a good lead trumpet player needs but also has stylistic soloing as the great Snooky Young was known for his creative solos especially with mutes. This can be compared to Ryan Kisor who is my favorite trumpet player and lead of JLCO who also makes some of the most creative solos out there.
@Edwin Bysuke thanks for the video
No problem
Awesome job! Kudos!!
the fact that I go to school with these people is just amazing to me even if I am in jazz c
me too its kinda crazy bro
Congrats y'all! I hope the music program there inspires y'all...I honestly crapped my pants in awe when we sat back down in the audience after our performance, and then they started swingin like THAT! They were even tighter during their judged performance too, which is even crazier!
Theres a jazz C? 💀💀
@@diegoamdrumshaha I saw you play Tunisia at Ellington this year on the web good shit bro. I’m in Roosevelt’s top band this year so hopefully I’ll see you next year in New York
Congratulations guys you were worthy winners. Seán

I was thinking a young Arturo..
Thank you!!
@@nathanielwilliford2589 You were absolutely amazing congrats, I also play the trumpet :D Just not as good Haha
Essentially Ellington has turned into some kind of jazz caricature. The kids all make the Wynton face, hoot and holler, cheerlead, and act as if every note their peers play is akin to the invention of the most incredible idea ever thought. This is some kind of jazz acting, combined with music as a sporting event and drum and bugle corps silliness. This is exactly what is wrong with the state of jazz and jazz education today.
having fun isnt a part of jazz??
🤨
Hey Magan! Essentially Ellington is a festival about being in the moment and appreciating each other in the special moments that JALCO and others gifted along the way to us. Because we all know the hard work that everybody puts into their music, we want to show our appreciation for them by supporting them throughout the night. This kind of hype involves us clapping and yelling because everybody is having fun! I hope you understand that this is primarily enjoyable to the people who were there to see them at that moment.
💀
I see a group of hard-working students being celebrated by their peers and other musicians, does Marcus Printup look like he's watching/playing alongside a "jazz caricature?" If anything, this band has earned the right to cheer and be cheered for.
YEAHHHH!!!!
Let’s go OCSA!!!
