Steve's Diy says that the manifold design can have a lot to do with the that front cylinder being too lean, have you tried a different manifold design (maybe the one Steve mentions?) and seen if that affects that loss of top end power?
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful for someone who has never used a paint gun before. I've always either used rattle cans on my builds, or paid a professional to do the paint. I'm at the paint prep stage on my latest build, a bike I've owned for 47 years, and I've spent a lot of time and effort on this one, and I don't really want to finish it off with a rattle can paint job. And I can't afford a professional paint job at this point in time. A suggestion: If you're gonna use music in your videos, please turn the volume down so that it's less intrusive.
Isnt it also an option to stay with dual carbs but make new manifolds to have a carburetor to the left and one to the right. You can also make it 2 flat or round slides.
U know where can i find pistons?
Excellent tutorial and very informative, Thank you.
Your timing look like it off check with timing light
I'd be happy with that finish bud, looks great.
Came out pretty good man!
I think it turned out great! I love the 'bass boat' metal flake. Good Job dude 👍🏻
what was total time to take engine out from frame? 2-3 hours?
Yeah it was around there
Excellent vid!
What a view! As usual Yamaha people make gearbox very slow. You have to rev it high where single carb is not enough.
Do you know how detrimental it is to not have that rubber sleeve on the front cylinder studs? I had to cut mine in order to remove the front cylinder head
It shouldn’t make a difference as long as the studs aren’t contacting the inner surfaces of the holes in the cylinder and head. Which you would be able to see before running the nuts down.
Man, you did a job, but the set up you are running wont work well ever. Factory carb is not good for single carb conversion. I will tell you why... There is no accelerator pump, this carb is not designed to feed two cylinders and it's old. My advise... YUse a CV carb with accelerator pump at least. Thanks for your business. Regards, VTC Motors.
I think the biggest issue with the stock carb is the fact that the diaphragm is only built to handle half as much vacuum pressure. The slide will never be in the right position for a given throttle setting. I recently switched to a CV40 and it runs amazing. Will do a video on it soon. Thanks for the great intake manifold!
Are you going to do a AIS delete?
Where can i find pistons , something compatible?
Ebay or yamahapartshouse.com. I’ve heard V-Star 1100 pistons are compatible but haven’t tried them myself.
Do you know where less mechanically-inclined people could go to have their bike fixed? I have an 86 virago and I do not have any clue how to fix it
You could call around to local shops, but unfortunately many won’t touch these older bikes. Your best bet is learning to work on them yourself. It’s a steep learning curve at first, but it’s very rewarding. Best of luck
Your videos have helped a bunch man, where do you get all your parts? I’m having trouble finding quality parts for my 95 1100?
I get most of my parts from various sellers by searching on Ebay. Glad the videos have helped keep another Virago on the road. Lmk if you need any tips✌
You did a great job! Congrats! I have the same bike looking the same as the before picture, just have a tank. Just soaked the carb in SeaFo and will clean all the jets tomorrow with carb cleaner.
Nice! Good luck and let me know if you need any tips for your build. There aren't many of these bikes still running
Are you running without an air box? It sounds a bit strange on the low rpm? I have an extra original complete air box if you need.
I had it running on a pod filter in this video. The air box is installed but not connected since the OEM intake hose doesn’t fit the aftermarket carb.
How is the power. I hear comments that they are underpowered. I am looking at one to buy. Thanks.
It's pretty underpowered. I would not take it on any road faster than 45mph. You can put a CR125 top end on it, and that's supposed to increase the power dramatically.
Have you ever done that to one (CR top end)? If so, where can you find the parts? Thanks.
@@DH-mf2lv No, I haven't done one yet, but if I do I will most likely track down the parts on Ebay. Got too many other projects to worry about that one at the moment.
The timing or carburator are off looks buggy check my mt are faster then that
