That’s the million dollar question I still haven’t figured out. Best thing I like about growing in water is no more gnats!

@JerseyWifeJerseyLife Great video. I was curious too, so I looked it up in Google. Here's the response: Plants can grow in water because their roots can access oxygen directly from the water, while in overly wet soil, the air pockets are filled with water, preventing the roots from getting enough oxygen which leads to root rot and essentially "overwatering" even though the plant is technically in soil; essentially, the key difference lies in the availability of oxygen to the roots depending on the medium they are in.

I’m not too sure how to tackle this one. I’ve never try planting directly in the garden. Hopefully you’re not overwatering which was the problem I had.

Haha your comment made me laugh 😄. Trying to remember if I watered this one immediately after but don’t recall. Typically I try to repot when the old soil is really dry so I can water it after repotting. Hope that helps!

@@carlagemma6543 I like my soil mix to be pretty chunky for my larger plants, but to be on the safe side I always try to do an even mix of each.

I’m 63 & The Garden Lady at my local Home Depot & my houseplant collection is GROWING! As i learn about them & water them, i fall in love! Thanks for your information, i Love your Spirit!

Good to know, thanks for sharing! So it sounds like this plant was under watered. I always get so worried about overwatering this one. I decided to keep it indoors this summer and I have it sitting on a bay window that gets a ton of light. It’s been a little over a month since I clipped those brown tips and it’s doing well. Thanks for the info!

Please double check info! My nursery guy said that if just the tips start to brown it means overwatering.

Tips browning could also be a result of fluoride in tap water. The plant pushes fluoride and chlorine to the leaf tips to get rid of it. Let tap water sit over night to evaporate contaminants, or use spring or rain water

It’s been over the month and the plant is doing great. You can do it!

It will still take some time to see growth. I’m unsure how long it takes to re-root but as long as you’re not seeing too much shock (i.e. droopy or discolored leaves) then your plant should be happy. Good luck!
