    Omg I’m on a walk listening to this and just realised I feel rubbish as I’m having an existential crisis! Makes how I feel make sense! I’m doing step 1 in Aca. Having a few communication issues with a friend and another one last month. Because I’ve not been honest with my upset with them. People pleasing and fawning about a not working for me. I have so many resentments from built up and unexpressed anger. Plus I’ve chosen friends who do not love themselves - thinking I can ‘love them better’ but that’s not my role. I have to love my own inner child better and get some emotional sobriety. Realising this existential crisis will pass makes me feel so relieved. Thank you.

    At 43:00 I think it’s important to remember that step two says “ came to believe that a higher power…” So when Herb says “ the big book doesn’t say we have to believe anything,” we DO have to believe that a higher power exists that could save us from ourselves. We get to define that higher power ourselves.

    • @AlanaAldrete
      @AlanaAldrete 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It doesn’t even say you have too. It says you don’t have the power. And you need power. Whether you believe or not is irrelevant, hence came to believe, as stated in the step itself.

    Thank you Herb! This talk coaleces the multiple but conjoined streams of teaching that have flowed into my experience deeply since I finally admitted I was powerless over drugs and alcohol and my life in my hands was unmanageable, I re-found the 12 step felkowship and in short order as I practiced the 3rd step prayer all the teachers began to arrive, first the fellowship speakers, then Richard Rohr, James Finley, Thomas Keating, Thomas Merton and today I tealize everyone I encounter, in service, in the fellowship and outside, is a messenger and I am flourishing...it was beautiful to hear all of this in your long lived experience as well. Thank you!

    How come god cured bill wilsons alcoholic addiction.and he went on to smoke himself to death if god loved him so much how come god never cured his nicotine addiction.acording to your warped thinking alcoholi is not a drug.if alcoholic is not a drug w.t.f.is it then.every one who comes to a.a is doing coke dope and alcohol your no different to any one else in a.a.my friend.i dont rate your lectures theres millions of.people like you got sober worlwide.why the mesia syndrome.we can listen to people like you in any meeting in the world.your not unique and different your only telling everyone what we know already.are you in some isolated place in the states where yiu cant get.out.i knew all about this when i was about 15.people can read and write and form there own opinions.marty mann drank again after 18 years so did most of those early members they never recovered and died drunk have you ever researched that its not difficult with a computer..were all doing it wrong acording to.your logic.

    what if you don't know what you have done wrong. What if they only cancel you out, you understand that they are upset but you don't know what part, or what thing upset them? Or when they accuse you for doing something that actually isn't true, but there is no way to get through to them. Should you forgive for something you didn't do? Right and wring, good and bad is not always so clear. Interpretation is very personal.

    I agree that Bill good bad or otherwise was on a recovery journey when he handed over AA to the trustees in St.Louis. IMO he was struggling in sobriety and got the physical sobriety he needed however he needed more. BW through his trails and travail was a leading light again. I feel when his emotional sobriety letter and subsequent writings got ignored this started what looks like modern AA from that point forward. I'm pleased his worked has been picked up by Berger/ Herb and others

    O My God, so what you are saying a Sponsor needs to be perfect. A Sponsor is another alcoholic trying to staying sober a day at a time. I am 30 years in the 26 years sober, I have never met another human being that is perfect and if I did, I would not want them to sponsor me and that is my opinion

    Good god man. I’ve done steps, therapy, psychedelics were super helpful at 5 years sober just like Bill but at 10 years sober I’m still constantly restless, suicidally depressed, completely dissatisfied and want it all to just be over. Been like that since I was 9 and at 53 it’s still exactly the same. I rarely think about drinking, “ the problem has been removed” but it’s starting to sound good again. A terrifying possibility. Love your book Herb. Bought it a few years ago. Have read most of it but I have little to no follow through. Frontal lobe brain damage and 13 major concussions makes completing a lot of things pretty difficult. Meh. It is what it is Just came out of a five day silent retreat with Dr. Angelo Dilullo. it was outstanding. And now I’m just back in the shit.
