4l80e swap wiring
มุมมอง 10K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Part 2 of the 4l80e swap in a 99 trans am. This is the wiring side of the swap.
What headers did you roll with? Thanks for all the great info. Me and my 14 year old son are building out a 2001 Camaro with a 6.0 ls and 4l80
That is awesome! Speed engineering 1 7/8
The two yellow with black strip wires. Does it matter witch one goes to the correct one or the wires the same and don’t matter when your splicing them back together
The color of the wire doesn't really matter as long as you put the correct pin from the trans harness to the correct pin on the PCM
Was this pass after the 4l80E swap? If so what engine mods, stall converter size?
Sorry for the very late reply, yes this is with the 4l80e. It's a 6.0 with long tube headers and small cam 585 lift is all I remember. Has a 3400 stall from freakshow performance
I was wondering why my car didn't look like yours! I couldn't figure it out. Now that I'm watching this sober your car is a 4th Gen and mines a 3rd Gen. Lmao Good information either way bro
What dipstick did you go with?
Used factory one from the 80. Had to bend it to fit.
Nice! I'm working on a 01 Trans am that i picked up for $400. It's a shell, but i have mostly everything to bring it back to life. New sub

I believe those springs that came with the shift kit are supposed to be for the direct drum. The center support just reuses 6 of the old center support springs, which go with that center support steel plate that Jake's sells.
Sorry it took so long to reply but the kit I got came with new springs for both center and direct.
@@xxB0MB3Rxx I jump the shark in my response. When I watched the video to the end I relised that is what you did.
Where can I get one of those 90 plugs? Great videos BTW.
I think I got it from a late 90s truck with a 4l80e.
91-93 4L80E had a different wiring diagram than the 4L60E and the 94 and on 4L80E. The early 4L80E had a completely different plug style to so you can’t just un pin one and pin it back into the other. You have to cut all the wires and solder them back to the corresponding ones. I’m dealing with it right now. I finally found a hood diagram. Still have yet to find a video of anyone doing this with the early wiring.
What spline did u use?
Why did you have to solder lines? Didn't you just repin the 4l60 plug?
Had to extend the wires about a foot.
Appreciate the video. Helps a lot. Was wondering what line and fitting kit you used as well as the adapters for the transmission? God bless.
I get all my lines and fittings from hotrod fuel hose , I use ptfe lines. The adapters I got from eBay , search for 4l80e banjo fitting
Hey I'm trying to do the 4l80e swap as we speak and I'm having a really hard time trying to find the right yoke.. I called summit and they asked me what length do I want on the yoke..
I went to a drive line shop , told them I need a 4l80e slip yoke. You can get a long one. Then push the slip yoke on the trans all the way in , pull it back out about 1 inch , measure from yoke to your rear end. I did from about center of the ujoint on the yoke to the center of the ujoint on the rear end
What slip yoke is that ?
Hey Jay did you ever find out what yoke he used ?
@@mickeybeer1527 did you find out what slip yoke is used?
Question what did u do about ur drive shaft ?
Just changed the slip yoke , same drive shaft
@@xxB0MB3Rxx what yoke did you go with ??? I’m in the process it don’t have that part number
@@jaydeee5961 it's a yoke for a 4l80e , they had 3 different ones and ingot the short one. I don't have a part number for it really
@@ThamerIsmael nice I’m going with the holly crossmember I’m hoping to find out what tail shatfhousing I need?
When you put the 4L80e in the third gen, was there any issue with the driveshaft or was everything “plug and play”
Had to get custom driveshaft , the 4th gen was a plug and play type. Just changed the yoke
4l80e flexplate and spacer
On this car I just used stock 4l60e plate , converter was made to bolt to this plate. My Camaro has a stock 04 Silverado 2500hd 6.0 flex plate
Torque arm?
Umi tunnel mounted torque arm
From the beginning of the video I'm trying to figure oit why what your doing
If you're doing the wiring underneath the car basically you repin that the same way I was pinning it. The 4l60 and the 4l80 have different pins. , I got the 4l80 and about a foot of wiring from the junkyard took it apart cleaned it put it back together
@@xxB0MB3Rxx oh ok makes sense I have a 4l80 I'm trying to figure how to wire it up for Manuel
@@xxB0MB3Rxx that's what I was figured you were doing. Ya I'm looking for info on going 4l80 full Manuel because I'm not spending the money for computer MSD I gotta 74 camaro 454 carbed

Thank you! It's nice. Pretty quick too
Sweet 90° trans line bungs. Where did ya find them?
I got them off eBay , the guy I bought them from stopped making or selling them, but just type 4l80e an fittings on eBay.
What about the 90* for the electrical connection, where did you find that?
@@shawnstevenson9929 from the junkyard, I found them on trucks with 4l80s
What cross member did you use on your 3rd gen 4l80?
I had a th400 in it before , it's bmr for th400 and we just added a plate to where the trans mount sits on the cross member
I bought the hooker crossmember for the 4L80e.
I just did an engine swap and put a new converter (3k stall 4l60e) in there so we let some fluid drain out the tranny through driveshaft the we filled torque converter with a lot of fluid I wanna say like 3or more quarts can’t remember then we pour maybe half a quartinto the tranny and it was saying that it was overfilled and wouldn’t move in any gears from there I dropped the pan replaced filter and gasket and have put maybe a quart and a half of tranny fluid in there after replacing the filter
is it possible that the tranny is still good,
My question is how much fluid does it need and does the converter empty when I drain the pan
@@mikeverything4098 yeah over filling a trans a little isn't gonna hurt it , did you make sure the converter was seated all the way? How much gap did you have between converter and flexplate? Some fluid will come out of the converter but not all of it.
@@xxB0MB3Rxx when the torque converter was installed it was bolted to the flex plate then the tranny was lifted up and smashed onto the engine then bolted up so I believe that’s the cause of no movement in all gears
@@mikeverything4098 more than likely, and possibly damaged the pump. The converter needs to be installed on the transmission and seated correctly
Thanks for the video
