What is the function of the part at 0:35?
Thats the spring that turns the needle back to 0 when you brake.
@@alautoparts9694 Thanks for the precise explanation. I have 1987 W124 where the odometer does not work properly. Sometines it runs perfect and sometimes it's not counting at all. What is the most commen failure?

I have installed Musway csm120x w124 speakers and need to take them out again. But the clips are not like the original speakers, they cannot be pulled out from above as far as I can tell. Do you think I can reach the speaker clips from below if I remove the air vent?
I think its possible you have some space there
@@alautoparts9694 cheers mate, I guess I’ll have to give it a shot. What about reconnecting the ventilation tube when you put the air vent back? Do you need to hold it in place from behind or are the vents designed so that you can pull them out and push them back without removing anything else like the glovebox or instrument cluster?
Just push down a bit slide your hand so you can reach the clips and lift the ventilation tube again. As long as it is behind the grill is good
@@alautoparts9694 thank you very much, I appreciate it. I think I will try the passenger side first because then I can always remove the glovebox as a backup.
@@alautoparts9694 I removed both vents with no issues, and got my speakers out very easy. Big thanks to you for this video! The passenger side is very easy because both sides of the vent is accessible. The drivers side vent is a bit more challenging when you only have one side accessible because of the dashboard. I used a small plastic crowbar on the door side and a special J-shaped hook tool inside the right side of the vent and then it came out nicely. If I ever attempt to remove the dashboard I will definitely take out the vent first. This way I can see the dashboard hooks for the special tools and maybe I can even push it out by hand. Anyway, now when I got it all out, I will install new speaker cables under the dashboard to deal with the higher power loudspeakers. Thanks again!
How are you getting tension on the needle for the speedometer? Does the coil spring click into something?
You have to push the spring in the small pin you can test it by putting the needle temporary and moove the needle and see how quick it turns back in place you can play with it and adjust and push in place.
@@alautoparts9694 Ok I pushed the spring into the small pin but theres still no tension when i put the needle on. Do I have to force the spring down to snap in on the needle? or should it free float on the needle? Thank you for helping
Add me on Instagram: donald_c24 and ill try to explain with photos.
Good video. Audio not so.
Thank you for feedback. I will change that in the upcoming videos.
Nice video, I'm about to repair mine. I have a question. How to join the two toothwheel correct? There is a little plastic tap on the upper wheel. Where must this tap go? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. Check out this link with pictures explaining the placement of all the antenna parts. It will help with your question. www.k6jrf.com/MB_Hirsh.html
Do you have any suggestions for repairing circuit board where antenna goes up, but not down? Tkx
I would suggest to upgrade to newer model anthena. You can find on late models of w124 and early w202 its easier to work on and repair.
I have a 1990 230E according to VIN, but the exterior is fully post-1993 facelift look. I suppose the previous owner had swapped the body parts... and my interior is Brazil Brown. I also noticed some w124 comes with the Economy indicator on the instrument display, mine doesn't.
Many people swap them to facelift model. According the economy indicator you can install it if you want you can change the left part of the Instrument cluster and put one with economy. Then you just need a vacuum pipe to the air manifold. 😊
Is it the same in Mercedes W201?
Yes but the clips are plastic on w201 be careful dont give too much power you might break them.
Is it possible to see a pre facelift 85-89 Mercedes but year 1990? There's one in my city with those features (one stripe door panels), light blue, in "good shape". They ask USD10K, 110K kilometers. Do I buy it?
It should be pre 1990. Check general condition then check rust, wiring harness, oil leak, transmission shifting if its automatic. 10k usd is expensive so the car should be superb.
@@alautoparts9694 Thanks!
Pre facelift looks better.
They both look good :D
Need a coupe version
Very good dear
You help me a lot thank you 🙏🏻
Is this part same for bith w201 and w124?
What part?
grazie
Thanks a lot for d vdeo...very useful..
Would it be possible to swap the pre-facelift headlights and the hood to the facelift model? I like the pre-facelift look better.
Yes, you have to change the hood and headlight or only lenses if you have euro version. Usually people swap from pre to facelift model haha
can i know what is the led bulb u bought to replace that existing one in there?
hello, i have one w124 200D from 1990 and i want to put the e500 body kit in him, my worry is does it fit? Also i wanted to change the grill to the new one, so that means I need to change the hood bonnet and also the head lights right?
also nice work with the differences, helped me alot to know better my car :)
If you have euro spec you can change only headlight lenses and the hood. According to the e500 body kit you have to order the parts from a verified and reputable source. E500 has a lot differences Wider arches front and back wider bumpers front and back fog lights in the bumper also different shape of the bumpers. To buy the parts OEM cost more than a normal w124. They sell fiber glass body kits to fit the normal w124 need some cutting in the rear arches to fit. This is some information that I have about e500 body kit.
Does this apply to the centre vent too?
The center vent is more complex. Center vent has 2 clips like this ones. 1 screw from the side and 1 screw in the center. I will make a video about it.
@@alautoparts9694 Still waiting 😞
Some details left behind: Early prefacelift dont have chrome strip on the bumpers up to 1989. Front headlamps are also different before 1989 vs 1989 to 1993. And the rear bumper shape is not only different on the molding colour and size but also the whole bumper its self has a different shape after 1993 till the end of production. Rear door window, rear heated window, front window and roof trim not mentioned at all: 1984 to 1989 all mat black. From 1989 till end of production gold chrome finished. And there is even more. Units from start and up to 1989 dont have a plastic sideskirt. The star on the hood also is different as well.
Don't even get me started with differences between wheel design, hubcap design, exhaust pipes, jacking pads, blacked out grey mouldings, lower bumper design and the AMG spoiler differences. Heaps more to it than meets the eye...... There was even a Mopf 0 which are the really early cars. They actually had different location of the outer temp sensor and a separate button for the sunroof (not integrated into the cabin light assy)
@@W124forever Well its up to you Im allways open to learn more and more about this topic

How do you get the correct mileage once you replace the speedometer?
The nCounter is disassembled by the speedometer and km is changed. I have uploaded 2 other videos explain how disassemble the Counter. One is here: th-cam.com/video/EuicEgWssMo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks. You must put relaxing music instead of this electric one... one needs calm for watching the video to be useful.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have to see if I can change the music. However, I hope this video has helped you a little bit about speedometers!
Do away with the music and speak in a normal voice, example, speak with contractions, I'm not I am.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for sharing, but I have two questions: what type of grease you put on gears (vaseline ou littium base)? when mouting the nidle should it be aligned with the white mark on the plate, and that is the guarantee that it will be reading correct speed? Thanks again
I use lithium base grease. Yes that is factory mark to put the needle back, but if you want to be sure, put the needle down and mark the place it stops (99% it stops in the mark)
Thanks for sharing, very interesting and usefull
Very interesting and useful. Thank you. I have a few questions, if you can help out: - my speedometer and odometer(? the number sequences that count the kms) don't move and are a bit tilted. Is this possible to fix or should I get another one? - In Portugal, a used full instrument panel my cost around 100€. Is it worth buying the parts separately (quite hard to find actually)? Thanks a lot
Thank you for your comment! The Speedometer can be repair. It depends of demage. Usually 9/10 I can repair. If the repair cost is high you can buy an used Speedometer for 30 Euro plus shipping,.
