I saw one production of “Oklahoma!” where Jud is implied to be a serial killer of women and that this song is not about him wanting to marry Laurey. It’s about wanting to kill her. The actor did such a good job that it was chilling.

Can I just go off and be angry here, the entire tonality of this scene is changed so much by the actress' delivery. She just sounds so stodgy in this. Side note, the music really worked a lot better with the original orchestration.

I found this musical unsettling when I first saw it and that was the traditional film musical when I was young. But when I was older and heard this song and realised the court was cobbled together at the end. I actually saw it just like this new version makes clear. Curly is basically like the High School Jock and Laurie the High School Cheerleader with Rich parents who give loads of money to the school and the Mayor's office. With Judd being the outsider that's unwelcome that's seen as messing up the status quo. Curly being found innocent of Jud's death always seemed like a mock trial. Where everyone "knows better" than to find him guilty. All this version of the musical did was made obvious what was always there.

I know people have mixed views on this version of Oklahoma but oh my goodness, when I went to see the production in the Wyndham Theatre, the cast were spectacular. This part especially had my jaw on the floor the whole time, it is truly brilliant in my opinion. I know it may be hard understanding without context from previous knowledge of the show but for me this part was absolutely stellar. The dancer for this scene smashed it out of the park!!

Yeah, this shows Curly is a villainous protagonist. How can you say someone trying to convince another to commit suicide is heroic?

My son just played Jud in his school's 2 week run. They couldn't get the rights to record at the show but it was amazing! People would come up to him after the show and give him the best compliments. Super proud parent moments.

Just saw the 1955 film last night & now listening to the revival take on this song, I feel MUCH more love for this version than the movie's! & the original was still pretty darn good, idk the movie just felt a bit hollow for me in some places, but the leads in that movie was what kept me going. This revival soundtrack tho *chef's kiss* STUNNING! 🤠

I played Jud in a school production of this show. The irony wasn’t lost on me that the bullied outcast kid was cast as the bullied outcast character. The show was a nightmare, but I got to scream like hell during Lonely Room, so that was a plus.
