A 2D Animation made with 3D Software. Can you find all the numbers? Soundtrack from the Pixar Play Parade in Disney California Adventure.
i remember being terrified of Macavity in the stage version. like the lightning, the crazy hair, the claws. like he was terrifying and i always had to skip. this new Macavity looks like a poor misunderstood soul with no real purpose of evil doings...so boring.
it just sucks because back then , you had to have actual artist get really creative and make props, today, its allllllllll CGI. nothing is real. i don't know about you but i wouldn't want to be an actor and just be in a greenscreen suit and a green screen background and that's it. there's no imagination. Like being an actor sound s like a really boring job that just dances around in green and that's it.
i remember loving the VHS cats Broadway version. the new movie is horrendous and stupid! worst movie ever
Everybody who involved in this new movie should be in jail rn.
My friends and I always said that John Partridge’s Rum Tum Tugger was the cat version of 1970’s Tim Curry.
Jenny's transformation is supposed to represent how she's a sleepy cat during the day and then gets the zoomies at 3 am when everyone is asleep.
The Originale is very better with The Rum Tum Tiger 🐯 i love it so ❤ him
11:50 WOMAN, not “chick” 🙄
english is not my first language, but a CD of cats was given to me when I was a little kid and i was obsessed with the musical. I couldn't understand a thing but i loved it. i remember my favorites being victoria and mr mistoffelees (is that how you write that?) anyway, recently i got a cats (2019) rant video recommendation and thought "hm, i should watch cats (1998) again". but i watched it after binging a few Cats (1998 vs 2019) video essay and i wish i had watched the thing before the essays but either way it's amazing how the story unravels and i didnt even know i remembered so many melodies, it's so magical to find their meaning now and it's just such a magical thing crafted with so much love and dedication i dont think ill watch the 2019 version
Cats 1998 is one of my favourite
Wait, the movie had Growltiger? From how I understand it that song got cut from the musical because I guess it had some slurs in it. And plus, wasn't that supposed to be a role that gus had played at some point, not an actual character? What a weird movie
You've already mentioned two things that I haven't seen a single person talk about. I don't think I've seen anyone say anything about the lighting, and as soon as you said that and showed the difference it's clear as day. And how they shot it to be in snippets where the actors briefly show up is a good point too. From pretty much anything I've seen, the director seemed indifferent to the source material and didn't care how it got moved around or ultimately trashed
I love the idea that there's a cat that's evil for the sake of being evil, including driving without a license and cyberbullying Obviously when they say he's broken every human law it's hyperbole to beef up the character, but it gets both funnier and more horrifying the more you think about it. Has he committed war crimes?
laughed out loud at his rendition of memory with the ghostly astringent voice of adam yms haunting the narrative
saddest moment of the whole vid when he said that magical mr mestophiles was his favourite song... top ten videos taken moments before disaster
Im racist against n*w zeal*nders but I love people with musicals autism and love cats the musical so I dont know how to feel about this video
How I always seen Jennyanydots taking off her coat............... have you ever seen a really fluffy cat that looks big but as soon as they get wet you realize they are not as big as you thought. That is what I thought of when I saw that scene, she really isn't a big cat it's literally just fluff.
Bombalarina is not syppirting mccavity but demeter. They are both ragging on someone that did them both wrong
Your meandering diatribe as comments only shows your limited knowledge of stage production
To eliminate the interaction between demeter and bombalarina to fetch a no talent hack like swiftless to perch her skinny a$$ and distribute drugs for her 3 min vocal diatribe was at best was an atrocious display of venom to the original show which spans the world and still rests as one of the highest grossing stage works ever. And an ultimate disrespect to the amazing performers who worked for years in these characters. In fact one woman who played bombalerina did that show for 15 years. So just because this producer or director had a hard on for swifty he gutted the play for nothing more than a skinny drug peddling lay about girl in a cat suit. And advancing not one damn thing. The original film of the play was vastly better.
I feel like I just have to mention that Rum Tum Tugger not just, Knows he's not the best and that Deuteronomy IS, it's that Old Deuteronomy is his *father* and the white and black maine coon tabby (because Rum and Munk are Maine Coons !) is his older brother and that's why they have this back and forth relationship with the glances and the RESPECT Tugger has for Old Deuteronomy not just stems from him being their leader, the one who watches over them, but it's also His Dad
1) The thing with the boot at the beginning - it's supposed to be a joke that in "reality", it's a bunch of cats screeching in the night so someone throws a boot at them to make them shut up so they can go back to sleep... but then the cats go right back to screeching. 2) Jennyanydots Costume Change - it's supposed to represent the duality of her personality. During the day (the big coat) she's just a fat lazy cat sleeping all over the place, but at night (the tap dance outfit) she turns into an alert, focused, determined cat. (Like how cats get zoomies at night!) The music does the same thing - Munk sings slower and lower (daytime) and the trio sings faster and higher (nighttime). 3) Old Deut's song - it's about how when you remember happy times, it's not the same as when you experienced them
I simply cannot watch your commentary, as I find everything about you (voice, silly demeanor, arrogant attitude) utterly insupportable. I'm surprised that you have even 2,000 subscribers.
If they wanted to make an animated Cats movie they should have just made an animated Cats movie. Animation lets you go crazy with the design of the cats and the setting. Animation lets you do the big expressive looks on the Cats faces. Purists will be mad that we are lacking in showcasing the dancing but you can still display singing talent.
My wife, daughter and myself get to be part of the cast for CATS in my local broadway theater. We're all quite estatic!
A play about cats having a competition to see whose the best..is...about...racism... Okay. That's enough internet for today. I think I'm going to go outside and touch grass for two.
Way back in year 2 my teacher introduced the class to Cats (I don’t remember why) What I do remember is thinking the costumes were really cool I find stuff like that really charming, kind off a handmade feel
They are aways aware of the audience. The show begins by the cats inviting the audience to learn about them. There is so much going on that RumTumTugger's antics probably just went right over your head as a child. I always thought of him as a kind of Elvis/(young)David Lee Roth rock star character that the girl cats just swooned over. One big problem with the movie is that they sing about themselves. There's a feeling of togetherness and community in the show because they sing about each other. Deuteronomy is probably the father/grandfather/great-grandfather of most of the cats there (99 wives?). I think being the "glamour cat" perhaps made her arrogant and aloof, not wanting to associate with the others. Now that she's down on her luck, she craves the acceptance they are not willing to give (just my opinion). Also, check out Betty Buckley singing "Memory". Eerily, she sounds like a cat. The heaviside lair allows her to be reincarnated. He is singing to the audience: now that we've explained ourselves to you, do you have a better understanding of what a cat is? So, I hope you've gotten to see "Cats" live on stage. I also hope you will adopt 1 or 2 cats, to see for yourself how wonderful they are. And you're right: never should have been a movie!
Didn't even know the 2019 movie existed. It's got a whopping 2.8 imdb rating. Lol.
The newest CATS falls short of good or average or even tolerable.
Judy Dench was supposed to be Grizabella instead of Elaine Page origanally on stage.
I remember having the fattest crush on Munkustrap when I was younger purely because of how his actor played him. His movements were so fluid and genuinely so graceful it was insane. It's always the ACTORS that bring out the best in the character, I don't think there could have been a better pick for him than Michael Gruber.
As a kid, i always thought that Grizabellas backstory was that she was too into herself and saw herself as above the others when she was young and beautiful. (I got this from her being called the glamour cat.) I always thought she kinda austrosized herself through vanity, but was left with no one once age came and stript her of what she saw as her only value; her looks.
Bombalurina and Demeter sing McCavitty’s song because they both got abused by him. They both react oddly to Grisabella because Gris went with McCavitty in the past. That’s what got Gris kicked out. Bomb and Dem were kittens when they were seduced and abused Mc, so they were forgiven. Gris was older and punished for going with the bad cat. The cats revere their elders, they don’t hate on them for getting too old.
Also, Rum had the kittens swooning much like women swooned for Elvis. Women freaked out about Elvis much, much worse than anything you see in Cats.
You handled the 2019 version rather well. Its like your cat giving you vomit as a morning gift and you react with a mild *meh*
I sure hope you can Sing, what a tragedy not to be able to express what you love. I mean a tragedy for friends and family .
I got Cats when i was 7 from my aunt. My mom hated cats so i dont think she knew excatly this movie was like lol
I saw Cats on Broadway the year it came out when I was like 12 and I have been a fan ever since. I've seen it a few times on stage, taken my kids... and of course I've had the 1998 version since 1998 and still watch it once in a while. Still can't bring myself to watch the movie but I appreciate your breakdown.
As a kid you looked just like me, now you look like Magnus Carlsen and I look like discount Vin Diesel. :D
The movie chose star power over talent & that's just ONE glaring problem.
Wonder how links work these days th-cam.com/video/ZFH0ny9_GzU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KbXIqUfaIQiSEwBN
You didnt mention how Rum Tum's song is just... different. Bad. Like, not a rock song anymore?
In the 1998 movie, a few characters were only dancers. The vocals were done by someone else. Some of those characters that were dubbed were Jemima, Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, and Skimbleshanks. Im not sure why they were dubbed, maybe they had the dance talent for the movie but needed a specific voice for the singing that the dancers didn't quite have. In the case of Jemima, Veerle Castelyn did not have a great command of English at the time and her accent was extremely thick.
As someone In the musical IT IS exhausting I feel like I’m gonna pass out 24/7
I always understood that the whole 'die and be reborn' thing comes from the saying that cats have nine lives. So Grisabella has finished one life and starting anew with the remaining 8. I could be wrong 😄
They could have just played the stage show's soundtrack over stock footage of real cats frolicking and it would have been better than this abomination.
I'm sure someone has already said something, but the coat/costume change for JennyAnnyDots (I am SO sorry for that spelling!) is to show her transformation from lazy napping-in-the-daytime cat to hardworking cat at night 🙂
We literally share the same 2 favorite childhood musicals. Love Joseph. Love cats
I'm glad Valerie Eliot (who loved the the stage musical and gave ALW her full support) didn't live to see this.
Cats and The Lion King are both iconic of any musical
The Lion King is smiler of Cats with costumes and stories
