I love this song. I know it’s on a single, but I wish it was on a CD or at least I can’t find it on a CD.
Those dolts watching him on their PHONES while recording him live is just daffy. If I paid for my date's ticket and they spent the concert with their faces in a phone... I would make a frisbee out of the thing. Imbeciles. JOEL is the best ever.
So much better than the auto-tuned pitched video version. Billy Joel's natural voice is soulful. I much prefer the natural unaltered voice.
❤🥲🎶 Great Billy! Thanks for upload this song. From Chile🇨🇱🙏🏻 (August.07.2024)
This song literally brakes my heart, I am back with the love of my life after a 22month breakup/divorce ..... such a sad song.....😢
It depends on the way you look at. He has come to his senses and is hopeful they can get back what they had as he is asking for forgiveness. I think it's a song of hope and new beginnings, not sadness.
I can't believe that I was there.... I'm so glad I got to see Billy Joel
I didn’t know about this concert and boy oh boy do I wish I were there?
The very last of the guitar solo adds a perfection to the song ending emotionally and gently.
Agreed! It is a great addition to the song. I think each time he plays it, it gets better and better.
he's not playing all the notes... is there another pianist on stage or are they just piping that in?
He has another keyboard player
@@Apefather Really. ? Where you there?
Prove it? paul
@@thirstyworks1465 The other keyboard player is named David Rosenthal. He's also Billy's Musical Director, and he plays the arpeggiated notes on the choruses of the song.
@@thirstyworks1465 you got owned, kiddo. Billy Joel has long had a keyboardist
Billy, gracias por tu bonita musica, por todos los aňos,que has producido, buena música para todos nosotros,te queremos,y vives en nuestros corazones musicales, que dios te cuide
Love thatBilly Joelmade a song again. Knew he could.❤
He's still got it👌👏🤜
So Bummed this didn't make the set list in Chicago!!😢
One of the best if not the best pop singer songwriters of the 20th-21st century...
He is, without a doubt. But why did it take four people to write this one?
@@tonyficca2719Freddy Wexler started it with some friends, brought a rough draft of it to Billy, and Billy helped him finish it.
@@thelevisullivanYep. True story. And they wrote it specifically with Billy Joel in mind to record it. Freddie Wexler, one of the writers of the song, and the guy who convinced him to record it, was a big fan of Billy's and wanted to write something that sounded like it was classic. It was his dream to write it and have Billy record it. Man, talk about manifestation and having a vision! Persistence and believing in the dream at its finest. It's a very inspiring story.
I love to hear how Billy and the band keep adding and updating the arrangement, the outro is a nice addition.... but I still don't get why he consistently misses the first note, and has trouble tuning the first line or two. He's still taking it down a half, which is fine (a lot of artists tune down on stage) but at least it's not as low as it was at the Grammy's ! Great tune tho...
maybe take into account he’s 75 and still better then 90% of any other musicians out there. It’s easy to criticize from home, but get o stage with all the ambient sounds and waiting for others to hit their marks, not easy to do. He sounds amazing.
@@armyjoe_9842 That's the point I'm making. He can sing a whole show, mostly in the original keys, with very few changes, perfectly in tune, but the first few notes of this song I have yet to hear properly on pitch. Billy can hear everything on stage with his self-adjustable dual monitor setup that he's been using for years, and he has complete control over this song becuase it's a piano intro. It concerns me more than anything else. If he can tune 99% of the time, why is he consistently off on this one song?
@@svengilson maybe just a really tough intro? Honestly, I just enjoy the song it’s powerful and amazing
@@armyjoe_9842 absolutely a great song, and I love the way it sounds more “Billy” as they keep adding to the arrangement. I guess I’m just cursed with a really good ear (I’m a musician) and it’s noticeable to me. Once he gets into the second phrase, it’s amazing
I'm so glad my ear is just dull and regular. But I understand how when you have more of a professional sound/interest then it's difficult to ignore those small things. Have you tried to reproduce the intro to see if it's possibly the arrangement? I'd be interested to hear what you find out. Keep me posted
There’s a young couple in the upper left corner swaying together. If you see this message, learn from this piece. Appreciate each other and respect each other. Love is fleeting, unless it’s true. I wish you the best. Thank you Billy.
How to see love when the man you love sent you into the Darkness?
@@naliecaron4899Because that's not true love, true love will never send anyone into Darkness
What an enduring Master & Maestro in every sense of the word!
かっこいい❤
Say yea, yea, yea, yea to Raized Wrong. U guys always so good and no different here! Love it!
The best !!!
Nothing like having to work on your 75th birthday!! Great song.
My guess is that this is not really "work" but as my dad said if you find a career/job you love you are always on vacation. Pretty sure, he intended this date by choice. A gift for us. (I've also worked local stage crew on sevearl shows over the years for his shows).
He loves performing on his birthday and New Year's.
Love Billy Joel Always Will!!! God Bless Him and His Family!!! 💗
I was there too. One of the best concerts Ive ever seen ( and I’ve seen a LOT!)
Billy never disappoints. Always a magical show when Billy and some fans get together. 🎹😎💘🫶💐👑
Great stuff!!!!
Mein absoluter über alles Lieblingsdauermusiker seit über 45 Jahren. Wünsche ihm ein unendlich langes Leben!!!
I was there! ❤
Best performance of the song thus far!
Makes us hungry for more new tracks!
Thanks for posting!
In my opinion it’s better to have one great song than 5 or 10 decent songs
But this song has 3 co-writers as well. It was Freddy Wexler's brainchild & his urging that got Billy to do it.
Love the lead guitar riff on the outro. Just what the song needed to make it perfect.
Wow just noticed it
Love that he found his way back to his music, I always thought his divorce to Christie Brinkley had so much to do with it. Glad to see him in a good place in life, new family and old family 💞.
I was at the show! It was amazing
Us too!
Same here! I was seated (standing) in same area as this video was taken!
And he reads lyrics like a pro
I would have been great..but my stoopid father placed his Catholic family into a freemason cesspool of bigots..he did not know..blinded by a govt betrayal of his service to Canada...his pride deateoyed his family...a family beoken in a botted masonic satanic prarie town.
Idk if we are any relation but I'm from ravia Oklahoma Benson family
Does anyone know the name of the Scots version?
john grist ..loch lomond is the original written in the 1800s red is the rose written in the 1930s.
Thank you so much. I love the history of our Celtic music. John's interpretation with just 2 musicians are precious gems. 😌
John, what can I say? Pure poetry.
We are all Celts Johnny!!!
good man john, beautiful..
Great show, he sang to my daughter at the 1:50 mark! He is awesome!
Thank you for capturing the story leading into the song. John's anecdotes and song stories should be preserved!
very good!
Amazing!
again, thank you for posting a live performance of this amazing tenor. He sounds even better without music. He holds the tune with his voice. WOW!
the voice that comes straight from the heart. absolutely lovely. How I wish I could have been there. Thanks so much for posting this live performance.
So lovely.
I Love John McDermott"s voice
Lovely a cappella version of this song. Bravo, John. Thanks for posting this.
John owns this song. A cappella? LOVELY! Thank you for posting this.
