I saw a demo on TH-cam where a guy was testing the Overdrive vs MAC vs Snap- On open end wrench trying to loosen a very rounded off nut. The Overdrive was the only one that could get a bite and break it loose. Impressive.

I got that 88 pc set for $50 black friday last year, the chrome finish is lacking on the inside of the sockets, quite disappointed, but I personally really like the ratchets. There is some backdrag but I love the feel of the ratchet, so I don't mind it a whole lot.

What I can find is always at half price as a sale Lowes or ACE or Ebay. I really like what I have and it has all been Taiwan made except the flush cuts which are France Facom for sure. The heads are thick like Snap-on which is a negative but the flex heads ratchet feel super strong and doesn't bend in use. I would buy them all again.

Do you need to drill it out for this to work? I have the same kind of bolt that I need to get out of my transfer case but it is about 4 to 5 in clearance from across beam so I will not be able to get a drill up in there

People say the Pittsburgh Pro swiven head ratchet is great. A few less teeth, but good enough. If you need more there are better ones than that Icon. Otherwise Pittsburgh it.

Higher tooth counts get me worried about slipping through some teeth with added torque. I could be wrong but starting to feel like fine crafted pocket watches instead of usable tools.

I have always had 1000x better luck with the extractors shaped like square, old timey nails. Proto makes some beauties. Also, get you some real hex keys. Wera Hex plus. The only way to go. A close second is Bondhus, but nothing less.

You need to use the needle nose style that grabs both edges for that 2 piece style clip, Pittsburg is for going behind door trim and popping Christmas tree style clips, Astro is for single piece clips button clips.

I was trying to decide when and where I would use a spline extractor. And this answered my question. Never needed one. But lots of things use this type of drive these days.

    • @supersonicmotorsportunlimited

The hex style and torx style fasteners were the main reason i bought this set. i did have a situation with a broken bolt inside of the head of a motor that i drilled and tried to install one of the smaller spline extractors into and actually broke it off which kinda sucked but harbor freight warrantied it no problem

Well I pulled the trigger and bought a Ryobi PCL250 3/8 reconditioned impact wrench today at my local Direct Tools Factory Outlet. I paid $25.06 including taxes. It comes with a one year warranty. Direct Tools sells mainly Ryobi and Ridgid; new, recons, and blems. I wanted this primarily for lug nuts and it won't come close to being used every day, obviously, so it should last. I had a stroke in 2020 and my left hand is a little weak and gimpy. I was a little skeptical even though I've seen positive reviews and videos here. It's supposed to develop around 220 ft/lbs torque. When I got home I immediately tested the unit on my '06 Silverado. I know the lug nuts are torqued to at least 100 ft/lbs because every time I come back from a tire shop I check them. I already have batteries as I use the Ryobi 18V platform for my yard tools. The little gun zipped the lug nuts right off with no problem. I was pleasantly surprised especially since the store only does exchanges. This will be in my truck or car on trips for sure. I was thinking about buying 2 but they only had one left at my store. Check direct Tools out. They have great deals occasionally.

Now Icon needs the opposite kit set of this one. Such as the high quality and very well made MABLEVI 32 pc. Bolt Extractor set #XS001 and believe Icon will come out with this exact version as it's complete with every size in a nice case. Perfect as a back up whenever you may need it when working on an engine or chassis of an automobile!

I have to laugh at all the Snap On fan boys that are so butt hurt about Icon tools. I owned alot of snap on tools that I used everyday for years. No doubt snap on is the best, but Icon tools are pretty good tools for the price point. A fellow mechanic has had Icon tools now for about three years, uses them everyday, wrenches, sockets-chrome and impact, ratchets and pliers. This is all he uses and he is not gentle on his stuff. All his Icon tools have held up, no issues at all. Some guys can't afford Snap On tools nor do they want to go into tool debt. I prefer to buy decent tools at a fraction of the price and spend my hard earned money else where and have a little fun instead of me giving my money to the Snap On guy so he can have fun. Just a thought

I've got a V series ratchet just recently as a replacement for my OLD half inch one and I'm actually surprised how much I don't like it. Feels kind of rough and it takes a lot of force to move. Overdrive ratchets feel better to me, so that will save me some money in the future! I'm going to pick up the Overdrive wrench sets.

The new Overdrive Series is a good offering for Craftsman in store availability. The Overdrive Series combo wrenches are very nice, especially if you compare it to Stanley Black & Deckers Mac Tools RBRT prices. These Overdrive Series sockets are really too. I paid 102.43 for that 121pc Craftsman Overdrive Series set. I don't need them personally...I have like 20 different sets of various wrenches, I'll give the overdrive series to my son.
