Welcome to the channel of the Northern Robotics Laboratory (norlab) at Université Laval. Our research laboratory specializes in mobile and autonomous systems working in northern or difficult conditions. We aim at investigating new challenges related to navigation algorithms to push the boundary of what is currently possible to achieve with a mobile robot in real-life conditions. The current focus of the laboratory is on localization algorithms designed for laser sensors (lidar) and 3D reconstruction of the environment.

Motor controler: Sevcon gen4, battery: 48V over 12 lead-acid battery. The robot is sold by Clearpath Robotics (clearpathrobotics.com/). We have it for research purpose.

@@norlab I have heard that lidar does not work very well in snow or rain. Therefore, many people are starting to use computer vision
@@runningbathattendantprogra9582 We are actually studying the impact of snow on lidars for localization. Cameras can also degrade rapidly in a snowstorm. Radars are also known to perform well in snowfall in the recent years. These sensors are all good research topics that worth more investigation!

Hi Suman, we are using a Velodyne HDL 32E and assembling the maps using ICP mapping. More details in the link in the description!
