Kadra Abdi Ibrahim, spokesperson for all the clusters of women in Kijiji Cha Upendo (Village of Love), explains some of the programmes that empower women personally and economically. She is part of a cluster that has graduated from Kijiji Cha Upendo, but she tells us how they continue to receive counseling and health support and now empower one another through multiple savings and sharing groups.

Amina Chuma shares how access to food is basic to her children succeeding in school, and her own capacity to recover from climate, political and economic disasters and to build her small business.

Youth rescuing stranded people in flood, Nairobi

The families in Village of Love have been hard hit through crisis upon crisis- COVID-19, climate change disasters, Putin's war on Ukraine. Prices of food and basic commodities have skyrocketed. Village of Love has ensured no family goes hungry by supporting them with maize flour each month.

In 2022, 15 Village of Love women received substantial grants to invest in their small businesses with the goal of becoming self sufficient and pay their children's school fees themselves. Jane has in addition built her own home and lives rent free. Eunice employs others in her sewing business and plans to teach young women in her rural village to sew and get jobs in Nairobi.

Tracy is grateful for Village of Love paying schools and helping her get a scholarship to train as a teacher. Working now as a teacher she pays school fees for indigent children!
