Matt, I can't believe you have this on film! I saw your facebook post about this performance and you were spot on with the statement: "teenage awkwardness and adolescent imperfection at it's best." This really brought back some memories. If I recall, Greg was already going to play drums but you were looking for someone to play bass (story of my life). The band I played drums in kept their gear at my house where we rehearsed so I temporarily "borrowed" my bassists guitar and amp for the rehearsals and performance. First and last time I ever played bass for any performance whatsoever in my life! I think the funny thing about this was I had heard Stairway maybe a handful of times up until this point of my life (sad, I know) and didn't really know the form of the tune since we put it all together so quickly. Pretty sure I just did the whole thing by ear since I definitely didn't have TABS or any of todays modern conveniences. I doubt that I played it remotely correct (thank god the audio quality on those camcorders don't pick-up bass all that well) but I tried to make sure what I did fit and supported the tune. All and all it turned out pretty good for what it was and what we were at the time. I remember people really did love that performance which is ultimately the most important thing. Right? Lastly, all I could think of is how freaking skinny I used ti be and how terrible my hair was! And what the hell is Jimmy's last name?? This is killing me now since all my yearbooks are in a box somewhere. Hope all is well. Feel free to private message me on here (if theres a way to do that). Mike PS. Now I am going to have to dig through old tapes to see if I can find the rest of that concert. My dad used to tape everything so there is a possibility that I have it somewhere. Pretty sure I put down a few terrible marimba performances at that recital.
