In this video, I show you the headache I went through to turn this truck back around! From stock to rock, it took a good bit! From waiting on parts and multiple other hold-ups, I finally made it happen! 2 days after I shot the last clip, the fuel pump went out! This thing should now be reliable enough to get me through what I've got planned! Thank you all for reading this, subscribing, and watc...

In this video I go over the basics of doing some frame repair on a GMT900 platform. Had a few mishaps and lost a little footage due to a full SD card and a dead battery; but overall, I think it all turned out good. Always remember to wear all of you PPE/Safety Gear! Will this wheels just bolt up with no problems ?
@@patricktobin7923 no, I had to run adapters. 5x4.5 to 5x5 bolt pattern
Why do the auto makers still let this happen? There's this neat little thing called galvanizing! On a production level they must be able to keep it cost-effective. When a truck cost $2500 they were admittedly throw away. But now at $40,000 to $100,000 it should never rust out a frame to the point of being dangerous.
Only thing that keeps me from buying a new or newer truck is knowing it will rust in 6-8 years because I live right in the rust belt!
What plasma cutter are you using? Tired of cutting discs lol

that frame is still not bad as mine 😭
@@Henelol I’ve fixed way worse than this!
@@millwright15 my whole rear frame is basicly gone, needs to be replaced. Thats no problem but one side of the rear bendy part of the frame where leafspring mounts is almost craked with a hole that could fit a small baby inside.. I am having trouble finding ways to fix that..

Where did you get the frame cap pieces?

I got them from Amazon. Steel fenders flares for an 07-18 JKU wrangler. Had to modify them to work slightly
Thank you
nice
@@PUERKAEBRIA thank you!
That's a good job on that frame. It will give a few more years of service🥸👍👍👍👍👍
HO hOhohO O HOH
What year truck is that? I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 4×4 and it has a decent amount of rust under it.Came from Virginia to California lot of rain, snow and salt. What's the best thing to use to help with the scraping the rust off and sealing it so no more rust or at least stop the decay?
Get a needle scaler or a wire brush. After you get all of the loose rust off the frame, use a good rust converter and then a good rust preventer like fluid film. That should keep everything from spreading!
Also, this truck is a 2007
Where did the frame repair pieces come from? I need to do some of this on my truck and I figured I’d have to fab my own scabs.

The video is great! Is there any opportunity to collaborate with you on products?
You look like you really enjoyed that , you wanta do mine , 😂 Im taking the box off now , in the rain . Sw florida
I do enjoy it! I know, something wrong with me 🤣 we’re about 12-14 hours apart! I’m in southern Ohio
I got the box off , exhuast loose , cut off the front gas tank cross member and its rusted under the mounting brackets , went to scrape yard , cut off a used clean on and got that one fitted correctly , but i cleaned a wheel barrow of dirt myd and rocks out of the inside of the frame , then noticed a few more rust spots on though the bottom , dime size or smaller , about 4 different spots ...hell im going to find me a new frame , this one is got holes here and there and every where , even where the front 4x4 axle bolts on , that bracket is rusty also , and i need those brackets , all i can find are 2wd frames , was hoping to make them 4x4 with them brackets , hhhmmm straight axle dana ??? With a 4 link in the front ? Hhhmmm Probably would never drive 85 mph again on the highway if i did that though , with 35's @@millwright15
Are you supposed to run the brake line and speedo line on the outside of the fork? Thats how I’ve been running mine but I might have autism
@@ProdPxwolf probably. I really didn’t pay attention to any direction. I’m definitely in the spectrum
@@millwright15 yeah I just figured you wouldn’t want the lines so close to the rim but as long as you’re in a wheelie 99% of the time it shouldn’t matter

Thanks little buddy
Looks like the one that passed me on the back wheel going about 100 yesterday

What size steel did you use for frame cap
@@mikemicallef1409 used the Safe T Caps that repair sections for this truck. It was around 3/16” if I remember right

@millwright15 I was really surprised to see Wrangler wheels go on here. I had been looking at that option for my Liberty but it seemed like they were different bolt patterns. Did you change the bolt pattern on your Liberty from the stock?
@@bshupejr yes, they are a different bolt pattern. I used a quality wheel adapter and had zero problems. The front axle is out of a wrangler so no adapter will be needed now. Still running the adapters on the rear.
Will this product remove deep scratches from headlights too
I don’t think it will remove very deep ones but it removed the ones in my other jeep from off roading and scrapes from branches.
Update?
Sold the jeep to a buddy not too long after the video was shot. Next time I’m near it, I’ll video it. They’re still holding up pretty well!
@@millwright15 alright thanks a lot I’m thinking about getting the kit for my mazda 3.
@@haydenbolinger4319 I’ve used this kit twice after this, a meguiars kit and a rain-x. This kit will be my go-to from here on out when I need one!
I need this done Where are you located?
I’m located in southern Ohio, if I’m close enough for you, I can give you an email!
Curious, Is it possible to order a new back half of the frame?
Possibly get a better frame section from a salvage yard. A complete replacement frame rust free was not cheap, though. I don’t know if anyone is doing anything about frame repair sections besides what I used in this video.

Very informative. You mind sharing what your welding setup is for this thicker metal?
Thank you! And my welding setup just depends on how thick I’m welding. My welder is an older Hobart Handler 187. Poor thing has been through the wringer but it has paid for itself many times over now.
Gave me a good idea what I am up against with my GMC 97 suburban. Only the whole frame is roached from the schackles back on the rear. Front half looks new!! Strange how back rusted & front didnt. I do have a good body man to do the work I want done.
الله يرزقنا وحده مثلها يارب
Very informative. Like others have said, years ago - with less talent and less tools (like plasma cutters) we all junked vehicles with frames like this truck had.
Thank you! And yes, I agree, I’ve junked vehicles with better frames than this!
Great video Mr. Hill!
Well, I’ll be damned! Thank ya, sir!
Good stuff man I subscribed
At the 5:33 mark, was that an eagle I heard in the background?
Quite possibly……
Now that's a XJ...!!
Wish I had more videos of it!
I had to fast forward the Go Pro and handheld shots, as they just make me nauseous. I watched the tripod shots and those were very interesting. Nice welds.
Must be difficult for you to watch action movies or well, anything else that isn't shot from a stationary camera, huh? 🤣
I have a 2003 in the same shape but non body that can help me like you welded on that truck, i live in canada and yes in arust belt also they do not make bodies like they make motors any more, you did a great job welding
Thank you!!! I appreciate that! Also, they definitely don’t build them like they used to!
Nice job, it can be a real pain in the ass to fix these rusty pieces of shit under the cab area, I’m about to try and unbolt the rear cab mounts on a Tacoma so I can lift it a few inches without having to take the whole cab off to get some room for welding the top of the frame in the mid rear etc
That’s what I did to the last Chevy I did. Made under the cab a lot better!
Where did you find the frame caps? Or do you make them yourself?
www.autorust.com/safe-t-cap-kits/ I don’t make them unless these guys don’t have them!
@@millwright15thank you for sharing the link!
How much do you charge for something like this ? Your not to far from me honestly
I think the customer had less than $2500 in the entire job. I can’t remember what I charged him for labor. He brought me the truck with the bed removed and the SafeTCaps.
Just fond your channel it's June 12, I'll wait for your next installment to decide to subscribe or not, kind of like what I've seen so far.
Hopefully the next video impresses!!!
