    I have not read all of your books yet, but I do greatly enjoy what I have read so far. I started off with the Kingdom series, and after reading 2 books, I went ahead and bought every book you had out at that time. I can't speak on what I have not read yet, but from from all the times I've heard you speak, it is obvious that you love God, Jesus, and His Word. The Pilgrims Progress has been my favorite allegory and now I add your books into that same list. Keep engaging people to seek and understand God's word 🙏

    People leave their faith because they figure out that the religion they were raised in is complete bullshit. The stupidest story of a told. I've been an atheist for a huge majority of my life and of course many people think that I misguided. You go back to ancient Rome or Greece and you will find their atheists living in those societies. You ask your average religious person if those people were wrong and of course they would say no they were correct in not believing in those gods. There they show their bias. Their religion is correct and everyone else's religion is wrong. Now times that by the several thousand gods that have been worshiped over the course of human history. You starting to get the picture?

    So how much do you actually do with the audiobooks? The Wars of the Realm were really well done, and Starlore has been too.

    • @AuthorChuckBlack
      @AuthorChuckBlack หลายเดือนก่อน

      Other than the actual voice narration, which I hire out, I produce the entire audio book. The involves proofing the narration and making corrections, finding music and sound effects that fit the story, and engineering the final sound files to meet audible's standards. For Reclamation, my son Keenan joined me and helped with roughly half of the chapters.

      @@GpL_2000sure, tell me where? I don’t trust Paul to have given accurate testimony because he specifically says everything is from visions or scripture, and I have no reason to think the anonymous gospels were written by good historians. So the only reliable thing I know about Jesus is, he existed for people to tell stories about, that were eventually written down. So I guess I could equally tell you to find the majesty of Chuck Norris, by only looking at stories about His wisdom and miracles from Chuck Norris jokes.

    I was delighted to hear you name Will Parker in John Christopher's Tripod series as a favorite character. He is one of my favorites also. What you say about him is spot on. It's a great series even though it is not "Christian." Christopher has written several other dystopian books for young adults that I would also recommend. He has also written several adult books as well. John Christopher is a pen name; his real name was Samuel Youd. He passed away several years ago, but his books are still available in used book stores mostly, but they are occasionally republished. Have you read his Sword of the Spirits trilogy? It is also describes a dystopian future, and while it is again not Christian the way Chuck's books are, there are characters who are Christians, and their story lines are educational and interesting. I would recommend those books highly, If you read them, pay special attention to Martin. You'll need to read all three to see his full story line. It's interesting that you use the Tripod stories in the podcast on doubt because that is a theme throughout the Tripods books. It is doubt that motivates Will to begin his journey. While not Christian, Will does follow much of your advice. He accepts his doubt. He finds someone to help him understand. He diligently seeks the truth. He does it from a human standpoint, not a spiritual, but there are some strong parallels. Thanks again for an excellent discussion.

    • @WilliamMarkWordwright

      Forgot to mention that the Sword of the Spirits trilogy is also by John Christopher.

      @AuthorChuckBlack หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had not hear of the Sword of the Spirits trilogy by Christopher. I will definitely look into that. You are absolutely correct on Will's doubt, something I hadn't consider before...great insight! Thanks.

  • @WilliamMarkWordwright
    @WilliamMarkWordwright 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I find it difficult to believe that everyone has not experienced some doubt at some point in the Christian walk. There are just so many issues and questions these days, that doubt has to pop up to some degree before everything is sorted out. What helps me is hearing personal stories, and that's why I liked this podcast so much. Chuck's personal stories and his explanations illustrate important the key steps to working through doubt, and while I didn't hear it specifically from him, he could have easily used the stories to say something like, "Be patient with your doubts." Sometimes we hunger for a quick answer and we might feel guilty for not resolving doubts in a short time. That doesn't always happen, and there's no reason to feel guilty for extended doubts. Don't wallow in the doubts, granted, but keep working on them. I wish doubts would always be resolved quickly, but getting the answers we need in a context that makes an impact on our lives can take time. As John the Baptist, Chuck's flight leader and others have found out, the wait is worth it when the doubt is resolved. Thanks for the good advice.

    Wars of the Realm is the best! My brother convinced me to try the audiobook, although from the description it did not seem to be my type. Actually it was highly disturbing to me (the third book specifically), though I first read it at 19. Might've had to do with the fact that I was listening shortly after 'C0v:d' :) I normally like really old books, but your writing style was so engaging it was addicting! And the audiobook was so well done. My family recommends the audios to everyone and we borrow them to anyone we can convince to take them!

    I did not think that apathy and flying a fighter jet (and ejecting from it) could all be tied together, but I was impressed by that illustration. It made a lot of sense to me. I agree that apathy, as undesirable as it is, can be comfortable. Sometimes we must face one uncomfortable situation to overcome another. The ejection illustration was right on point! That illustration made the most impact for me, but the rest of the podcast was filled with other practical suggestions for understanding and dealing with apathy. Great job!

    Thank you both for another great discussion. As a middle school teacher I see apathy growing in the ranks of youth. One of the major trends that I am noticing among preteens and teens is those who have passion and are focused on moving forward and succeeding even if it means sacrificing personal pleasures are put down and ostracized because they are not joining their peers in their apathy. Unfortunately, most of the youth that I have encouraged to step out and continue moving forward to excellence end up choosing to go the path of their friends and they tank their lives. This is also where gangs come in and bind young people because they promise "the good life" of acceptance and pleasure while draining them of vision and passion for good things that will benefit the world around them. Even though I do not have children of my own, this episode encouraged me with ways I can encourage my students.

    • @AuthorChuckBlack

      I'm glad you found some encouragement here to use for your students. Keep up that courageous work of working with our young people out there. This podcast is rich with wisdom for those who are struggling with apathy. I especially appreciated Chuck talking about what to do NOW when a person realizes they are in apathy. I needed to hear this since I tend to focus more on my past failures than the new opportunities I have today. What we do now is the only thing that matters. We forget what is behind and press on toward the mark so we can finish well even if we didn't do well before this point. (Philippians 3:13-14; Isaiah 43:18-19)
