Googling it turns up a ballot initiative to end large factory-style commercial farming in Sonoma County (also, I have no idea who "they" are), as an initiative to 1) protect animals, 2) protect small farms, which the initiative does not target AT ALL. It specifically sets a limit on the number of animals that can be confined in a commercial operation by prohibiting Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), in other words it offers the sort of protection for cows and other livestock that the self-declared savior of cows should be in support of, but likely isn't, or couldn't drum up the energy to be informed about to form an opinion.

Thanks! True enough. But I am pretty sure that Musk loves money and attention enough that he'll find a way toward being more sensible, or at least compliant with relevant EU laws. If not, there are undoubtedly alternatives waiting for his exit. Also, lately it would seem that there are more than a few people saying stupid and misleading things. Elon being a prime example!

​@@thorjustwell, Threads was supposed to be an alternative but we initially didn't even have access to that one because of the EU laws. And fair, admittedly a lot of people say dumb things online, but i don't feel safer by having less access to and more restricted online services. In fact it seems outright dangerous to hand over all our online communication to politicians. And sure, the whole ragebait thing on X doesn't help, but that's an aspect of most media (including pre-Musk Twitter) and the polarization of the time seems like a bigger factor in all this to me.

@@AR-vm7tk That is definitely so. Rage and tribalism are at an all-time high, and Musk is as much a symptom as a cause at the end of the day. But he is also a Grade A a-hole in control of one of the key platforms, so I feel he remains worthy of criticism at all times. And some regulation given his outsized potential influence. I am quite certain that however this shakes out, he will either be forced to comply with sensible regulations or another platform will take his place, most likely the former while kicking and screaming. It is really nothing to do with censorship, and everything to do with business practices and avoiding activities that seem like disinformation by design. No perfect solution available to be sure, but the status quo seems worse.

@@thorjustWell yeah, Musk certainly is worthy of criticism and very hypocritical. But you can't really divorce regulations like these from censorship. In Russia and the conquered parts of Ukraine one can be persecuted for spreading "misinformation" about the Russian Army or their "special operation". I think i'd rather risk some misinformation being fed to people that are not willing to think critically in the first place than move towards a situation in which politicians can decide what the truth is. Nazi control over public communication made it actually possible to hide the holocaust, in a way and on a scale that deniers on X never could, as long as information still flows freely. So i agree the status quo is maybe not optimal but i think it could certainly get worse.

@@AR-vm7tk I think that the gap between the EU and Russia remains safely massive at present, even with the enforcement of regulations regarding social media platforms. There definitely is a balance to strike between completely free speech and ineffectual stewardship from the owner of a "free speech" platform, while being mindful of not creating a thought police situation to be sure. Honestly, the best thing Elon could stop doing is posting to his own platform, and actively amplifying disinformation. That would be a massive boost to its credibility. But like his buddy Trump. neither of them can run away from the attention and follower adulation that they receive in operating their respective platforms.I definitely agree that critical thinking is taking a back seat way too much anymore. More of that would go a very long way.

I'm pretty sure both of them are, but Trump is unparalleled in terms of sheer volume.
