Cutting My Own Hair at Home - following a YouTube video ✂️
I couldn’t quite make it to the hair salon, so decided to jump on TH-cam and follow the advice of a complete stranger…. Didn’t follow it step by step as we have different hair type but did what works for me.
So thank you to @BrittneeAlexus I followed your advice from the video you made 4 years ago….. and filmed myself…..

@@suejennings7739 thank you Sue, it is a minefield isn’t it, and I think there are so many options these days, we kind of get lost with all the products and tips etc. I think having a pale complexion just having that fresh face natural look with a tad of blush/bronze on cheeks and hairline, but then again I could be very wrong… 🤷🏻♀️

I had fun making this video… wanted to keep it all real 😝
I’m in my early sixties. I have been colouring my hair since I was a teenager. During lockdown I stopped colouring it, and just carried on. This year was pretty horrible in our family. Illness, and end of life care of my father. I even stopped washing it. It grew almost to my waist. My daughter hated it, she called it hag hair. I just kept it twisted in a top knot and pretty much forgot about it. Three months ago we got a puppy. We were told to get a crate for it, which we did. It cried every night. So one night I let it stay on the bed, it snuggled down happily beside me and went to sleep. In the morning My top knot had been chewed to oblivion. While I was sleeping the pup chewed the life out of it. I had no choice but to take some scissors and cut the whole thing off and watched it as it flushed away. So it’s like a Bob now. But the way I cut it off wasn’t tactical , I just hacked the thing, but it seemed level. Dog is still on the bed, and I wear a beanie now. I’d love to go as silver as you, but mine is sort of a slate grey.
@@Tenzin62 thank you for your comment. So sorry about your recent loss…. Such a difficult time for you and the family. A puppy I can imagine was a welcome distraction (I have dogs too), but oops can’t believe they ate through your hair, what a little rascal…. But I can imagine the cuddles and fun a puppy provides. I think with silver hair, people do associate silver hair with aging but in the last couple of years it’s become a bit more empowering to let it all grow through, but to get a good cut, keep it conditioned and own it, like the crown it is….
I love your hair! It looks thick and gorgeous and the cut is great too🥰🥰
Thank you so much Mimi 😊

Foundation is so tricky. I am 60 and have over 20 bottles as I can’t get the right color. Some can turn and look orange or cakey. Try using nars light reflecting with a small foundation brush. Do the concealer after foundation and small amount. I think your make up looks really nice and lips look great. Maybe just a taupe tone in eyes. You got this and again looks lovely.
@@Elizabeth-eo3zf thank you, 20 bottles wow, it’s like we always fall from the ‘how amazing this product is ’just to try it out and be disappointed. And they oxidise too…. It’s a minefield 🤣 Thanks for the Nars suggestion, will look into that. 🙏🏼
Lovely natural look. I have the Chanel Sublimage in shade 32 which is more of a corrector shade and use it in a light handed manner with a tiny bit of IT cosmetics bye bye undereye in 20 at the very darkest part of the undereyes and where the bag starts (but not on the bag as it is a brightener too and will draw illuminate it). Also would suggest bronzer on your cheeks and sides of nose and jawline and neck to warm up foundation but the colour is perfect I think
@@DarkCircleBagLady thank you so much. I will definitely try your suggestions, and I guess less is more for the more natural look, but having that coverage with a touch of finesse, that sound like the look I would like 🙏🏼 (now to look for a bronzer that’s natural and not orange)
Try using a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. I think it looks more natural on mature skin.
Thank you…. Yes I think that might be the way to go…. 🙏🏼
Colours are nice, foundation is a good match. Blend with your fingers. The overall look was nice. You are naturally pale, a subtle bronzer may also look good.
@@bettinadorling1942 thank you so much for your comment… do you think a subtle bronze for the cheeks is better than a rosy tint for the cheeks?
It’s really pretty! Could you take the strap off and attach a long chain and make it a cross body bag? Think that would make it more versatile …
Thank you. The strap does come off, as I cleaned it recently…. I will take a look and see if a crossbody chain can be added but tbh don’t think there are any d rings..to link it to.
It’s super lovely but what is a fraction of the price cost?! lol

Thanks for your comment. I was out of town for work and had the opportunity to pop in, (so not local to me), tbf the lady did show me some bits , but as she was colour matching there was a lot going on (like multiple product and colours being used) and the store was really busy and noisy… and at the time I was just chatting away and my attention span was a bit blah….but thank you for the No 7 suggestion, will look into that. 😊

@@maryflores5085 thank you 🙏🏼
I've watched a couple of times now. Under eyes, LESS is always better, as too much concealer will start to crease into lines and emphasise rather than help hide. On camera, the foundation colour looks ok, and yes, the last brush you held up would be the best, but 2 tips 1.don't choke the brush, (hold the handle, not the bristles, which you did when brushing onto your face) 2. Put the product onto a palette or your hand and then dab the brush into it dab dab dab until you picked it up (now your brush is 'primed') and gently brush it around over your face, you can go in and direction, but as you finish, try to sweep up so you get even up sweep. I like to then (use the soft, loosely packed brush for powders) ..the one you used to put the foundation on, to dust over a setting powder (a kabukie brush) use a dusting of powder, then spray the setting spray, then dab with a foundation sponge (wet then squeeze out and squeeze in a towel, so its barely damp. Dabbing that over to press into skin, especially under eyes. Its all trial and error, all you have to do is practice, put it on until you are happy with the finish. Try the colours in the shop and see if they suit your tones. You dont have to match shadows to your clothes, you can do a nude look, you can do a bold one-and-done that is all on lid, with a lighter colour just dusting to blend the edges. You can do a 4 colour look (all over basic that is slightly darker than skin, a light shade on the inner corners of the lids, a dark shade in the outer corner of lids and up into crease, then a medium to blend that darker colour in the crease and blend it out. As we get older, a lip liner is good to stop lipsticks 'bleeding' (and I dont think that lip colour suited your skintone, sorry, go a bit more nude), and do 2 to 3 layers of mascara, build it up to make the lashes look fuller and longer. Of course, clean it all off and good moisturiser at end of day. And rubbing the Primer in at the beginning makes everyones skin go pink, so dont let that bother you. Watch Sugar Puff and Fluff, Roxstrmom, Allie Glines, etc... Robert Welsh....they are a mix of MUA and self taught, and all do great make-up, i have learnt to do my make-up from watching them for a few years as Charlotte Holdsworth (i think thats the spelling, shes self taught) even if youre just home, get out your make-up, watch the people on TH-cam, copy, try it on yourself, you learn what you like, if it suits you, etc...take it all off, and try a different look.... you will only learn by practicing on yourself...have fun, that is the best way.
@@lynettefinnigan9540 thank you Lynette for your in-depth help and advice…. Yes I too am thinking less is more…. I will definitely do some more practising using the correct brush and lighten the grip… great I will look up those self taught artists too…. I know it will take a while to get it right…. It’s already taken me this long…. And I also realise it also the lighting, as home, office light is so different to shop artificial light…also I think my mindset of it being a chore has to change and to enjoy the process…like you say to have fun with it. Thanks for watching.
15 steps every day!! I'd never get out the door. All I do 1. moisturiser 2. Primer (if full coverage for lasting for going out, or none if it's daywear and just going to shop) 3. Foundation (or tinted BB cream if just light day wear, especially in summer heat) 4. Dab of concealer under eyes if needed, otherwise, just blending light foundation/BB right up and lightly over eyes too. 5. Setting powder 6. Bronzer in hollow 7. Blush on cheeks 8. Highlighter on top of cheekbones (+down centre of nose if going out and bit of bronzer on sides of nose to shape for going out look) 9. Setting spray to last if its going out look... 10. Eye shadows. 11. Eyeliner 12. Mascara 13. Lipliner 14. Lipstick. 15.. lipgloss Well, what do you know!! It is 15 steps if its full makeup going out!!! ....For light day wear ..BB cream for foundation, setting powder, mascara, maybe eyeshadow and lipstick and go, if just a day look. So 5-6 steps then...
@@lynettefinnigan9540 bless you, honestly that’s so kind of you…. Gonna follow your technique both for a daytime look 4-6 steps….
