    To think back then in '91,i was in Standard 4 ko Ditau Primary School in Orlando East, when this game took place, i was in the same class with Andrew "CULOTTES/KILOT" Setlhodi,he was also a brilliant keeper like his father BANKS SETLHODI and was a keeper for our class and school. 1991 i was the main striker ko sgela ba mpitsa "Nanana" coz of my short stature, i remember that year i was going head to head with Fani Madida, eveyday i scored goals for my class whenever we played with other classes and schools...i also finished the year on 29 goals and won R20 from the class. That's way back then when diski was our main refuge as young boys. Vandag diski is not even part of my vocab, at 44 im into other sports coz the current administration killed SA FOOTBALL.

Featuring players like Junior Ngobe, Rollaway, Makhubu, Dancing Shoes Hartze, Dynamite Khan, Kaizer, Chippa, Vader and a plethora of others. My father was born in 1951 and myself in 1983 he told me that during apartheid we had world cup winning talent in soth africa across all provinces on the weekends they forgot about apartheid it was a time where the whole week would accumulate to that match on the weekend where the whole community got emptied out onto the grounds to support the local team and that professor mlungisi ngubane was the real GOAT of SA football oh how i wished i was born earlier

      We certainly did! We once walloped a tough Argentina side! We had the likes of Jomo Sono who played alongside the great Pele; there’s Kalamazoo Mokone, the first black South African player to play in the English league where he played first for Coventry City, and Cardiff City! In Holland he won the league with Heracles! He played a couple of friendlies for Real Madrid, he was then signed by Barcelona, went on loan to Marseille, in Italy he played for Torino! He made a mistake by moving to the US because the US supported apartheid and Mokone was outspoken against apartheid so the CIA and racist Boers regime colluded and sent him to jail for 12 years on trumped up charges as it was later revealed under President Mbeki’s term! That’s how they operated, even though they call themselves the land of the free and a bastion of freedom, it’s all a lie! Ace Ntsoelengoe was also great, so was Kaizer Motaung, there was Darius Dhlomo, Teenage Dladla, Chippa Moloi (Snr), Eliakim ‘Pro’ Khumalo(Doctor’s dad)…the list goes on and on! What held us back was apartheid because they banned all our gifted players who were destined for greatness! They were evil people!

      @Mntungwa77 thanks very much for some insight I never knew that story about kalamazoo mokone it is my first time hearing it. Do you rate him the best in south africa? Also i sometimes try and watch local ball but I just cant get over the quality of ball even after your golden generation I was lucky to see the generation after with doctor,ace,Jerry,mkalele,nyathi etc I really enjoyed that era now I dig deep to watch a match that comes close to those days

    • @Mntungwa77
      @Mntungwa77 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RaymondRay-yp7kx Mokone was, in my view, the greatest! He was even honoured in the US before our own government remembered him. Ringo Madlingozi has a song that praises him; I forgot the title of the song, but it's about the greatness of South Africa as a country. Ringo goes on to list some heroes, but he keeps going back to Steve 'Kalamazoo' Mokone. The Dutch made a documentary about him, 'The Black Meteor,' about his time when he played for them. He was also an intelligent man who even became a university professor at some stage in his life. He was the first Black African from this country to be given a passport to play abroad. There were two other players, though, Gerry Francis and Albert Johanneson, who played for Leeds United and are from what we call our Coloured community (I have never been comfortable with calling anyone like that, but that's what SA has become since apartheid)! Local football was great when guys played for the love of the game and pride. That generation of Khumalo, Khuse, Magents Motale, Tebogo Moloi, and Sundowns under Screamer Tshabalala was also a great period. When there'd be lots of banter and excitement everywhere leading up to a derby. That's because players were allowed to play to their strengths, and until we get coaches who can enable our players to play to their strengths, we will once again be unstoppable. They need not be local coaches, Augusto Palacios, Ted Dumitry, and Jeff Buttler were not from here, but they understood our culture and game. They succeeded. We should recruit local coaches or coaches from South America or Latin countries who rely on skill more than physical strength, as the English do. Look at how well Bafana played against Nigeria last month, IN NIGERIA. Those guys in West Africa are bigger than us, so you won't challenge them physically, so moving the ball swiftly with trickery with our little nippy players works for us. Our game is still alive, but the quality in the league is different from what it used to be, and it is really scrappy. We also spend too much money buying average players from other countries, making it hard for our young talent to develop. This is because team owners want results NOW because of the big money invested in football that goes to their pockets, not development. Buy players that will improve the league like they do in England. Also, we have had the same SAFA leadership for the past 20-30 years; what do we expect to change with the same old ideas? But we must still try and support our own, though I must admit...it is hard to watch at times.
