yeah, the whole mental health thing has become really mainstream now. Everyone claims mental health stuff, but the actually serious stuff is still really stigmatized. There's a difference between having emotions, or being a jerk, and actually having a diagnosed mental illness or trauma.

Well I find independence to be a very over valued attribute. Being capable of being independent is admirable. But we are a social species that very seldom functions when not in a dependence based relationship with their community. In the west we value it since it seen as the opposite of being able to be oppressed. Even tho the average person isn't anywhere near that independent. It also has a lot to do with the nuclear family. Through most of the world and history communities have been way more interconnected and dependent on each other. Moving out wasn't even that normal. Multiple generations would grow up on the same land in the same house and build together. This not only created a much more stable family structure but also keept our moral structure more intact since everything you did reflected apon your family. Much harder to walk out on the mother of your child if you also have to cut ties with your intire family. This does ofcourse limit the freedom of your family since if you wanted to be an artist you weren't just sacrificing your own economy but your families. But I belive we have a lot of problems in society exactly cause we moved away from this united family structure
