E8 - 2nd Failed Attempt to Reach Mount Charleston | 40-Mile E-Bike Ride, Hard Fall & Overheating
In Episode 8, I decided to push my limits and see how close I could get to Mount Charleston on my Bigniu BG-X e-bike-despite being short on time. Google Maps led me through some unexpected bike routes, taking me deep into the La Madre Mountains Wilderness and Harris Springs Recreational Area. The journey was intense, with steep inclines and declines, and I climbed from 2400 ft to 4400 ft in elevation.
The 100+ degree heat caused my Insta360 X4 camera to overheat, cutting out some footage, and to top it all off, I took a pretty hard fall on one of the steep inclines, breaking my left side mirror and taking a spill. All in all, it was a challenging 40-mile ride, full of unexpected twists and tough terrain. Even though I didn't make it to Mount Charleston, it was one wild adventure.

Do you think upgrading the battery is worth it?

@@derekjoy6162 yeah man that would be great always like riding with people. Are you apart of the BGX Facebook group? Link up with me there if you type my first name you’ll probably find me there
I was wondering what is the distance you can travel on a single charge? Also how long does it take to charge the battery from flat to full?
I believe its around 40 miles on each battery that I have just about. I would probably get more like 60 miles if I rode it much slower.
Got the same bike n luv it, 800 miles so far. Was really pushing it when i first got it but found out i get twice the range if i keep it at PAS 1 so now i just cruise at 19 mph to prolong battery life.
@@theinnocent714 the BGX is such a beautiful and fun bike to ride. I like to speed majority of the time full throttling mainly cause I travel on the main roads. But yes if you are just chilling the range is significantly improved for better distance and prolonging the life. I do plan on maybe doing a 72V conversion once the motor and controller dies out though
@@JimmysRide nice, but might b a bit dangerous since that frame isnt meant for those high speeds.
@@theinnocent714 I was waiting for some other people to complete their conversions to see how it holds up on their end. There’s some time though til my motor is expected to die I’ve probably only put 250 miles on it but the odometer only shows 200 miles
how is it riding on dirt i hvnt tried it yet with mine i feel like these tires are just better on street
@@MiamiElectrix it’s definitely better on street. I do keep my psi around 15-17psi for more grip on dirt. It’s not too bad… definitely will give you an adrenaline rush

@@JimmysRide I get that. I found your channel while looking up research for this E-bike because I plan to purchase this myself.
@@nzovejunethegrayhollow1997 feel free to ask me any questions regarding the bike and I’ll be happy to answer them for you
@@JimmysRide okay. Thank you I appreciate it. So how fast does it usually go for you in full throttle?
@@nzovejunethegrayhollow1997 I’ve seen other guys record up to 42 or 43 mph hour but realistically I get around 38 mph sometimes 39. It might be the cause of the extra weight of myself, the extra battery I keep in the frame bag, the saddle bags and the stuff inside of the saddle bags as well
Must ride slower then it allows with your weight, and all the extras on it!

Cool video. I'm in Henderson I just got an E-Ride Pro. How much crap do people give you for riding on the bike path?
Thanks for checking out the video! That's awesome you're in Henderson and riding an E-Ride Pro! As for riding on the bike path, I don't get too much hassle-most people are cool with it. Every now and then, you'll run into someone who might give a look or a comment, but I just keep it respectful and stay aware of others on the path. It helps that I keep my speed down in crowded areas. How's the E-Ride Pro treating you so far?
@@JimmysRide Its cool. Its really fast so I'm just waiting to get hassled about it but its been fun so far.
@@DavidAcampora I always expect for it to happen just in case lol
What’s the top speed and how is the torque on it for being a single motor
The max speed I typically reach on my BG-X with the 48V stock battery setup is around 38-40 mph on average. That’s factoring in the extra weight from all my gear and me being 185 lbs. Even with a single motor, it’s got solid torque, so it accelerates smoothly and handles most hills pretty well!
@@JimmysRide thanks for info bro I appreciate the response
@@MarvstubeSoontv I got you. Please feel free to ask any questions in the future!
@@JimmysRidewhat are your settings like?
How are the pedals? Seem like nobody is using them on this thing. If the battery dies are they pedals ok for riding back home?
Where can i get the frame bag?

@@JimmysRide thank you
Still a good ride! 👍
Appreciate it! Even with the setbacks, it was still a fun ride. Can’t wait to tackle it again soon!
How steep was the incline? When you had to push it.
I’m not sure of the exact steepness, but if I had to guess, it felt like it was around a 60-degree incline! Definitely steep enough that pushing the bike was a real challenge.
@@JimmysRide does it have walk mode?
@@ciprianmarinescu1312 it does! I was holding the minus button to put it in walk mode as I was pushing the bike. It does slot better on flat ground while in the walk mode.
I follow you.. try again. I am so curious. Thanks
Thanks for the support! I’m definitely planning to give it another shot after I buff out the scratch on my Insta360 X4. Stay tuned-I’m determined to make it to Mount Charleston next time!
What is the weight of the battery?
@@ciprianmarinescu1312 I’m not sure on the exact weight but on the shipping when I received it the package was 20lbs.
What's the range you get full throttle at highest gear?
On my 52V battery I get 35 miles at full throttle and speed. This is from full charge to empty. On the stock 48V most likely around 30-32 miles at full throttle but I haven’t fully tested out stock.
@@JimmysRide That's still pretty good range
@@rclejarde It really is good range! Since I carry both my 52V and 48V batteries, I’m planning to make a 60-mile round trip to a nearby mountain with a 5,400 ft incline. It's definitely going to be a bit risky in terms of battery life because of the altitude, but I’m excited to give it a shot. I’m planning on making this trip for an upcoming video and will have a mic with me so I can narrate or talk during the ride. Stay tuned for that one!
I was trying to see if you have a frame bag big enough to hold the battery. I was possibly thinking of installing a storage trunk behind the seat

Thanks so much for watching! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. The aftermarket light is definitely super bright, and I’m absolutely loving my BGX! Appreciate the support!
Would u mind sharing your camera setup?
I currently use a GoPro Hero 5 with a suction cup attachment that I place on the tank battery. It’s been working well for now, but I’m planning to upgrade to the Insta360 X4 in the near future for better quality and versatility. Stay tuned for future videos with the new setup!
@@JimmysRide I appreciate u sharing I was just wondering how u had ur camera on uev tank. I just bought 2 camera from Roamix, go pro knockoff which are suppose to be better $98 in total. I'll let u know if I was scam 🤣 🤣
@@Blitzwing85Div I’ve heard that some of those knockoff cameras can be decent, but sometimes they don’t fully meet the specs they advertise. For example, what they claim is 4K quality might still just be 1080p. Hopefully, yours works out well though! Definitely let me know how they perform!
@@JimmysRide it was a gamble I'm prepare to eat it. I took a gamble on the BG-X. Because during my search for a E-Bike no one was talking about the BG-X. I'm satisfied
@@Blitzwing85Div It’s always a bit of a gamble with things like that, but it’s awesome that you’re satisfied with your BG-X! I felt the same way when I got mine-there wasn’t much info out there, but it turned out to be a great choice.
I see your speedometer goes back to zero when you let go of the throttle, I have the Gen 2 version also... mine does that too, they sent me a new controller said that would fix the problem I've yet to install it, I also have the Gen 1 version in purple which is a beast very quiet motor and a bit faster than Gen 2 I think, only by a couple mph but I love your 52 volt battery system man I'm going to have to look into that and you don't have to change the controller cuz that 40 amp can handle it, very cool video bro
Thanks, man! Yeah, the speedometer going back to zero when letting off the throttle seems to be common. I haven’t had to change the controller either since the 52V battery works well with the stock setup, and you're right-the 40A can handle it just fine. The extra torque with the 52V setup has been a game changer for longer rides too. That's awesome that you have both the Gen 1 and Gen 2! It’s interesting to hear the Gen 1 feels faster, even by a couple mph. I also heard that the speedometer drops to 0 mph because it’s a geared hub motor, and when you're coasting, the motor isn’t turning due to the freewheeling clutch. Let me know how the new controller works when you install it!
Yeah that's a good point I never thought about the gears stopping why it does that , when I first got mine I thought the back rotor was scraping that motor is really loud sometimes it honestly sounds like it's going to fall apart, but when I let off the throttle the noise stops obviously the gear stopped turning , I'll probably try to put the controller in this coming spring, but concerning the motor on this generation they sent me something which I was told not to talk about I don't know if anybody else knows about what they're doing I'm not sure I should say. I haven't installed it yet because my freaking brake rotor bolt is stripped and I have to go get it taken off at a shop probably
@@JHOFF111 That’s interesting, man! Yeah, that gear stopping explains the speedometer thing, but I totally get how it can be concerning at first. The noise from your motor does sound pretty intense-hopefully, it's nothing major, but it’s good that the noise goes away when you let off the throttle. I’d definitely be curious to hear about whatever it is they sent you, but I understand if you can’t talk about it. Sounds like something big though! Good luck with getting that stripped brake rotor bolt taken care of. Once you get that sorted and swap in the new controller or whatever else you’re working on, I bet your ride is going to be even smoother! Keep me posted.
Would you be able to show how bright that bracket light is?
I'm definitely thinking about making a night ride video in the future, but I haven’t had the time to do one yet. I also plan on upgrading to a better camera for it since the GoPro Hero 5 Black isn’t great for capturing night rides. Once I get everything set up, I’ll be sure to showcase the brightness of the bracket light!
@@rclejarde I wanted to let you know that in my latest video, I actually show how bright the bracket light is! Feel free to check it out, and I’ll still be planning that night ride video once I upgrade my camera.
Thank you very much for your likes
You're very welcome! I’ve been really enjoying the BG-X, it’s an awesome bike! Thanks for making such a great product-looking forward to more rides and sharing my experience!
What 52v battery are you using?
I'm using a 52V 30Ah battery that I got from eBay. It works great with my setup and is compatible with 48V motors as well. Here’s the link if you want to check it out: www.ebay.com/itm/387046613795. It’s been solid so far for longer rides and extra torque!
Do the 52v slide right into place or do U have to do some uninstalling to install the new battery?
@@Blitzwing85Div The 52V battery slides right into place without any need for uninstalling or modifying anything. It’s a direct fit, so all I had to do was swap out the old battery for the new one and set the display to 52V. Super easy upgrade! Also, check out my latest video to see how I carry my second battery with me for longer trips!
@@JimmysRide yea I think u told me on Facebook., u have it the three bag in the middle of the bike. 2 question. 1. how do u change it in the setting? 2. Do u have to change it back when u put the 48v back on?
@@Blitzwing85Div Oh, I didn’t know I told you on Facebook since I haven’t really advertised my videos in the group! But yes, I change the settings by holding the plus and minus buttons at the same time and switching from 48V to 52V after swapping the batteries. When I put the 48V back on, I just switch it back the same way. Super easy!
I got mine a few weeks ago and im also absolutely loving it!you have a sick setup too definitely looks more like a cruiser motorcycle Ebike. How long did u wait for the saddlebags and can you get those somewhere else?

@@canadiandorkguy Thanks! I totally get your concern. The laws can definitely vary a lot depending on where you are. Here in Las Vegas, I’ve had no issues so far, but I try to stay cautious.
