Aegon was much more humain in the books... Sure he was a foolish drunk but he loved his family... That's the only reason he agreed to become king. he refused to take the crown at first because as he said what kind of brother steals his sister's crown. Criston Cole convinced Aegon that if he won't accept the crown Rhaenyra will kill him and his siblings because they pose rivalry and threat to her claim and legitimatcy to the throne.
