I really think the controversy of the ping sound alerting the enemy is a myth. In the heat of a battle, with a platoon all shoulder to shoulder firing with you, and MG 42s firing back. And the enemy firing their Mausers at you, and grenades going off, and other miscellaneous explosions, and officers or NCOs trying to yell orders loud enough that their men will hear,…would an enemy really ever hear that ping? Anyways what enemy soldier would be willing to stick their head out after hearing that ping knowing that that American rifleman is probably accompanied by at least a squad of other armed guys all looking your way? Besides, those riflemen armed with the M1 were really good and very fast at reloading. I’d bet that they could reload faster than an enemy trooper could jump out and charge at them. But, it’s just my opinion.
