Ten Weird Piano Fingerings that Promote Healthy Arm Movement
Choosing good fingering is essential for reducing tension and preventing tendonitis or other piano-related injuries. Here are some examples of unusual fingerings in standard repertoire that, when done correctly, result in better, healthier arm movements.
Pieces demonstrated in this video:
Mozart - Sonata in C major, K. 545
Beethoven - Bagatelle in G minor, Op. 119, No. 1
Chopin - Waltz in A-flat, Op. 69, No. 1
Debussy - Clair de lune
Bach - Prelude in C-sharp major, WTC I
Beethoven - Sonata in F minor, Op. 2, No. 1
Haydn - Sonata in E-flat, Hob. 16:52

The Basics of Forearm Rotation in Piano Technique
มุมมอง 963หลายเดือนก่อน
My take on how to learn and apply rotation to piano playing. Forearm rotation has huge potential to improve our facility at the piano while reducing muscle tension and preventing injuries. This lesson covers the most common application of rotation (notes alternating in direction) with just enough anatomy to help you learn the movement properly. 'The Wheel' Piano Technique
มุมมอง 3.9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The Wheel is an essential element of healthy piano playing and a must-learn technique for any pianist dealing with tendonitis or playing-related pain. In this video I explain how to practice the wheel and apply it in examples of intermediate and advanced piano music. I help pianists prevent and recover from injuries by playing with healthy technique. For more information about my teaching, go h...

I’m wondering if the wheel in the beginning of Chopin‘s etude op10 no4 moves clockwise or counterclockwise. Is the movement always counterclockwise if the notes go up?
The direction depends on which hand is playing. Right hand is always counterclockwise, left hand is always clockwise.
@@patrickcashinpianothanks for the fast reply. Does it apply specifically to this piece or is it a general rule for all pieces?
@@MarxistischerMillionaer This applies to all wheel figures, so scale or arpeggio-like patterns in any piece.
Great video - food for thought when fingering any piece. That treacherous opening figure of the Haydn Eb has always challenged me. I like your alternative fingering a lot. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad to hear it!
Hi Patrick, excellent idea! ..to discuss specific bars and their fingering. I whish there would be more of this kind. For me, this could even go more into details, like finger position on the key (back, front, sideways, part of the thumb...), what comes before&after these bars, what fingerings are not obvious in slow tempo (when the piecs is to be performed in fast tempo) etc Nice, would like to see another one like this!
Thanks! Maybe I'll do another with more examples.
viedo on how to become good reader not sightreading
How about something on trills?
Good idea. That would be an exception where the two notes ARE equal.
Beautifully played.
Very profound explanation :)
❤❤😊❤❤
CAN YOU PLS DO A VIEDO ON HOW you READ MUSIC ?
Very Nice and a real good Sound my friend, Well Done, 🪗🪗🪗Mick.=101
When I watch your videos I realise just how bad the teaching was when I was a child. I had to become an organist because of the absolute nonsense I was taught about piano technique. I have had an amazing life with the organ but I am still unpicking the tension built into my playing by bad piano technique. So thank you very, very much.
Yes, many others have had similar experiences. Glad you're finding this helpful.
Great stuff! And very well explained!
Good stuff!!
Really enjoyed this, thank you!😊
Variation 23 of Beethoven Diabelli 🤫
Yes, good example.
Hi, just found your helpful 'pinkie' video, I thought you might be more likely to see a Q here...As someone asked in the comments there, do you have tips on increaseing the power of finger 5 in a chord? e.g. a 7th or 8ave with the 3 played also? There's one in the L in Burgmuellers Arabesque that I am having eveness issues with (G/B/F) despite my repeating efforts and approaches.
Thanks for your Q. Couple of things I can say in text form: experiment with placement of fingertips either out toward the ends of keys or in toward the fall board. In a 1-3-5 chord the 3 should be well in front of the others. And you can make the pinky "taller" by bringing it back closer to the hand.
@@patrickcashinpiano Thanks for this Patrick, I can reach a 8th okay and even a ninth but playing a middle finger inside even a 7th is challenging but I suppose just something that comes eventually with practice, and great tips that are generously shared.
I will try these exercises. Thanks for the tips, sir. Greetings from Brazil.
Best of luck!
Video on Ocean etude pls
Will keep it in mind for the future, thanks.
A very helpful video. Can you explain this in more detail with the wheel? There are so many ways to use the wheel. Thank you very much ❤
Yes indeed. The wheel video will be next and should be up by the end of this week.
Can you pls do a video on Chopin ocean etude?
Excellent please keep going explaining these techniques in further details and videos
Bravo!
Thank you!
Underrated yt channel
Nice exercice thank bro 🥲
Very good explanation. Thank you.
Great tips.
Great lesson! Could you go over how best to apply for chords? Especially where the hand has to stretch more. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
great video! keep it up.
One of my Goals is to learn the Piano dude 😁 That was ace 👌
