    In all honesty, I'm afraid I have to disagree with Thor's philosophy. I will agree that true strength comes within by showing kindness and mercy, but I feel what makes a true warrior is someone who can use a sword to defeat an enemy without killing them, like in Schindler's List: "Power is where we have every justification to kill and we don't." Fighting (and even using a sword in battle) without killing someone is possible. You have the power to kill but know how to use it. A Real warrior should never give their life just for the sake of fighting, they fight in the first place to protect others so they don't have to kill and that is something worth dying for. This why I feel like Thorfinn is too hard on himself the farmers who ruined their crops did not die and they hurt Einar he had all the right to bust up some jaws.

    Finally watched Vinland Saga. Season 1 was great, amazing. Season 2 was so much better. It started off a little slow, didn't know what to think, but as it progressed, it's amazing, a masterpiece and one of the best shows I ever seen... What Thors said at the start - "A true warrior does not need a sword" - though I wanted it to return (the quote), it's amazing how it returned not through words, but through actions. "Nobody has any enemies" this was amazing too. A show like this in season 1 was great, it was the horror that Thorfinn lived, which would be what haunts him in season 2, but season 2 was beautiful and unbelievably well written, it was a spiritual, emotional journey more than an action packed series. Season 1 made me think this show is a 9/10, it was amazing and great to watch, it does not need designs that bring fans from nowhere, it does not need crazy anime powers, Season 2 was just amazing and really made this show a 10/10 for me, one of the best anime ever.

    Floch did not love Eldia, he did not want to protect anything. He was power hungry after seeing Eren and wanted that power and wanted to be by Eren's side. He used the chaos of eren's departure and created the Yaegerists and rose to the top through manipulation and killed innocent people/fellow soldiers for literally no reason at all. All he wanted was power.

    I repeatedly watch videos like this to remind me that a true man - true warrior - is someone strong, but kind. I struggle from PTSD and have taken life on a battlefield. I hated being angry all the time, yet despite this being an anime, this show helped me realize the errors of the mindset I had. I dont think I can ever realistically be like Thorfinn nor a pacifist, but videoes like this give me curious to keep trying to be a better person for myself and others around. Thanks for the video.

    The switch up for me was a very welcomed surprised, i started this season really annoyed by Olmar while liking (sorta) Ketil, but by the end i liked Olmar's growth so much while hating Ketil Though i liked the depiction of Ketil, him being sympathetic and "kind" makes you look over the fact that he's still a slave owner, and adds all the more weight to when he snaps, not only revealing his true colors, but also very clearly showing that ownership over another's life has an inherently abusive power dynamic

    • @designingcrib
      @designingcrib ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, I love how this season really deconstructed even the smallest sub plots in its show like Ketil’s character arc. The Farmland Saga leaves you with a lot to chew on and it’s amazing.

    I disagree with your conclusion. Men do not want peace. They want a righteous cause. They want purpose. Evil men want their evil to increase. They want bloodshed. They want others to suffer.

  • @E_V878
    @E_V878 ปีที่แล้ว

    My interpretation is that a true warrior’s real battle is one against the cycle of violence. Thorfinn fought against that violence, ironically, by telling Canute he would run away. Running away (on a literal level) is seen as cowardly. However, in that instance, prolonging suffering by continuing to fight and throwing hundreds of lives away would’ve been the cowardly thing to do. Retreating or escaping a dangerous situation whenever possible isn’t cowardly, it’s smart and mindful. People who have experience with fights will always tell you to avoid a fight at all costs for a reason. Even if you come out on top, you still lose.

    • @designingcrib
      @designingcrib ปีที่แล้ว

      Very well said. I love how he goes from calling his father cowardly for running away to Iceland in season 1, to now realizing running away is sometimes the bravest thing to do. And I couldn’t agree more, most violence in life is just a perpetuation of emotional cowardice. And a true warrior will realize that, and realize there are (for the most part) no good reasons to harm somebody.

    The real message the anime is trying to pass on is about the follwing quote: “It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.” ― Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of Five Rings -- The point here is very simple, you must not choose violence, but at the same time be ready for it. This is not a 100% pacifist bullshit, because not choosing violence is only 50% of it, the other 50% is about being prepared if it comes to it... and you do that by being capable of violence, by training and etc... not just being a defenseless piece of potato.

    heyo i just found your video and loved it. i'm glad to be your 998th subscriber! i never understood floch's thought process and his mindset until i watched this. i wish i was currently able to hone such a analytical and insightful mind that can breakdown concepts like these. i do have one question though. what separates eren from floch in the regards of his love for his country? sure, floch doesn't care about the people whereas eren does. but i feel like they are both the devils of paradis, right? so, what separates them?

    • @designingcrib
      @designingcrib ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the nice comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And sure I’ll be glad to make the distinction: While Eren and Floch are both share a similar philosophical framework (as expected since Floch is the leader of a group called the Yeargerists), I think the true difference lies in the shape it takes in the story. Eren clearly is a big advocate of freedom. And the reason why he does these atrocious acts is because these people in his eyes are restricting his freedoms. While Floch definitely cares about being free, I feel the main ideology guiding him towards the end of the show is one of nationalism. His highest priority in life is to make sure Eldia is prospering, and will even go as far as killing other eldians. Eren differs in this regard as freedom is his ultimate goal. I’m not sure if you’re caught up on AOT yet but in the most recent episode he explains why he hasn’t just taken away the titan shifters powers so nobody could stop him. So I guess to sum it all up, Floch really only cares about the freedom of eldia, but Eren’s view of a free world exists outside of his country. And this is why Eren doesn’t kill dissenters and Floch absolutely would if given his powers. Hope I laid this out clear for you and thank you again for the love!!

      @@designingcrib that definitely helped, thank you! that definitely makes a lot of sense. and yeah im currently caught up in the anime haha! i find it interesting how one character is more morally convoluted than the other when they act on a smaller scale essentially (floch) compared to the entire world (eren). people view floch as more "corrupted" than eren, even when he's committing mass genocide. and they hate floch more than eren! i wonder whar that could mean as well. happy 1,000 subs! you deserve it man.

    No one in the world has enemies, no one in the world deserves to be hurt. It's not an empty musing, it indicates a truth that only a few get to experience instinctively. Everything we do is a product of identification with thoughts and feelings. Every action we take, every "enemy" we create, it's just that. We act upon natural mind-based phenomena, referring to them as "mine", instead of letting them be and pass in their own time. This is the enslavement we all undergo as humans. Such a simple truth, yet one that takes so much patience and effort to live by.

  • @cy4n_knight_q8

    I still think "you have no enemies" is a wrong mentality to some extent. Or at least different from how I interpret it. Making an enemy is something you cant really control even with kindness. I think the real take here is to accept your enemies and fight their hostility, not them themselves. Peace is achieved through hardship mental and physical. For exame..The desire to change/oppose something that is actively working against your needs and desires is an enemy. Your enemy. It is hostile toward you and you want to fight back against it. Like Talking to someone who wants war and trying to convince them to stop is a fight in itself. Your enemy is war... You don't want war. The person who wants war is your enemy. Because You have to fight back against it as you fought your past self to change... With the intention to make no enemies; You hated yourself for what you did but you accept it and make it a friend that guide you onwards. Again..As you said we are all slave for desires and social norms and so to resolve this.. you must identify the person that carries the wrongs and fight it pacifically in a way that doesnt bring out your hatred toward it.. to make no enemy. At least that's my take..

    • @willofd1540
      @willofd1540 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Masking the person as enemy will cloud our view and take us away from coming to understanding. We only beat war with love and understanding which comes with empathy and listening to our "enemy" which we won't do if we think of em' as Enemy. Though their can be many other takes on this, It's just my pov and knowledge. Like - Great thoughts by a child is neglected by the "all knowing & experienced" old people because they are afterall "children" a mask.

    This idea is basically just learning to see the world the way God does. A famous idea is that God loved even Hitler, and the notion usually upsets people. From his persprctive though, WW2, like any war, would have just been his children killing each other.
