Thankyou for the Documentary. I am a 66 year old African American male Grassroots Republican Who lives in Macon Bibb County Georgia 31201. I have been Retired from St. Luke Episcopal Church located at 1000 State University Drive Ft. Valley Peach County Georgia 31201 Directly Across the Street from Fort Valley State College after seventeen Years as Choir Master and Organist. It is through this Parish and of that Of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Fort Valley that served as a Gateway for me as an introduction to the History and culture of Americus Sumter county, Macon County , Peach County and Houston County. I have been a member of Christ Episcopal Church located at 582 Walnut Street Macon Bibb County Georgia 31201 since 1997 and have met some of the Decendants and family Connections of Howard Cobb. Howell Cobb married the sister of John Basil Lamar who was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. You are Absolutely Correct with regards to Planters such as Howell Cobb and Mr. Hugenian being Absentee Land Lord's who own Hugh plantations with a large slave labour force among others. Sibley Jennings of Milledgeville Baldwin County told me that the White inner sanctum of Christ Episcopal Church in the Antebellum period were involved in Corporate Farming. Many of these planters of Christ Episcopal Church owned Huge plantations in South Georgia in that fifty miles radius of Albany Georgia. Thankyou for Your Documentary.
All that vernacular speech in the video and you guys truly didn't talk about the "SLAVERY" portion until 15 minutes in the video for a stench!! Americus (Sumter County) got wealthy not rich but wealthy off the backs of slaves and the White men mentioned in this video to include the mediator still thriving "TODAY" off of slavery BACKS!! Selfish! If you going to tell the story welll tell the story! Slaves built Americus and Sumter County, Georgia and the descendants are repping the benefits. Like you really believe the White men built those houses? No, the slaves did just as they built the White House. Good Day!
I'm sure I've seen this before, Lee, but nice to have it pop up on my feed today. (11-22-2023) Such a great review of the history of not just Americus but SW Georgia as well! Thank you, sir! (Too bad the hoped for intercity passenger service between Atlanta, Macon, Americus and Albany has never happened.)

Does anyone live in this area now?
Such a humble, honest man President Carter.
Nice to see my city getting some attention
I have a family member named Americus. I wonder if she was named after the city.
Amazing documentary
To be fair, I haven't watched the whole show yet, but what about old Pineville and old Danville?
Danville and Pineville definitely deserve mention; however, this version of the video was edited, as I recall, to fit a time constraint, so they got cut. It was used as an orientation to Americus, so they were left out. Thank you for watching!
@@leekinnamon Are there any known photos or drawings of either?
@@leekinnamon I am looking for information on Bottsford (5 miles outside of plains off 45south) Do you have any resources?
