This is very interesting to see. I searched "sibad oman" to see how it looks these days and found this video. About 10 years ago, before Sidab harbour was built I climbed over that same mountain to find that secret cove with the cemetery to go snorkelling (I found an old forum entry describing a path leading up the crevasse from the palace side, which unfortunately is blocked off by an extension of the palace at this point). Fortunately the tides were in my favour to return walking around the ledge of the cliff around low tide. Next time I went my timing was off, the tide too high and I really didn't want to climb back to Sidab since there were some sketchy parts of the mountain. So I decided to go down the crevasse towards the palace and somehow get by its extension. When I got down I didn't find a safe way around, ended up having to pop my head over the wall and say hi to the roughly 30 workers I've seen from above taking a break in the yard behind this wall. One of the workers (all of them wore blue overalls) quickly went to get an english speaking supervisor who appeared in business casual outfit and looked at me surprised and told me I must go back from where I came, they'll put me in jail if they catch me. Close to shitting my pants in the first moment I reminded myself of Omani hospitality and told the supervisor that I can't go back because of the water being too high and the climb too dangerous. He then went to get one of the guards from the entrance of this extension, who moved a barrel close to the wall so I could climb down safely into the yard. The workers' supervisor translated my predicament to the guard and they drove me to the entrance with a golf cart where I had to wait for roughly 20 minutes for an english speaking supervisor of the guards to tell him my story, because if he saw me leaving the compound on the CCTV without me ever entering that way, the guards would have been in trouble. Before leaving they went through my camera to check for pictures from above which I had to delete. All in all it was a teaching moment that leaving your comfort zone and believing in the good of people can give you a fun story to tell friends and that thinks usually work out fine :)
