The BenCrosthwaite Channel is a photographic record of our beautiful Midwest Australian Landscape, Farms, Machinery and information on machinery, chemical, farming methods and different crop results.
The transformation of the West Australian Sand plain country from 1t ha to 4t ha over 50 years.
Some of the management that has contributed to the transformation.
1. Trace elements.
2. Phosphate build up.
3. Weed control with chemicals to allow seeding nearly a month earlier.
4. Direct drilling with knife points.
5. Deep ripping.
6. Lime.
7. Canola, with chemical management, has allowed earlier seeding overall.
8. Better stubble handling machinery.

Any irrigation there? If there was irrigation could you get two or more crops per year like southern Africa?
We haven’t got the water to do irrigation.
@@BenCrosthwaite1 But looks fantastic land.
The farmers deforested the entire wheatbelt and turned the place into a desert, 20% less rain since 1970… these fringe farms need to be reforested asap.
Thanks for your videos. It’s nice to have new from France. I worked on Walong farm in 2009. Say Hello to the Critch family.
Great information - super video! Thanks Ben
Thanks mate nice to see local content im in Greenough not a cocky lol
ALL FULL OF STEROOIDS
Ben I thank you for your interesting videos. I like to see the Midwest and Honeybee 18 meter fronts and hopefully you will be able to video some for us.
Can’t find one in this area John.
The Bednar Terralands rippers are changing WA cropping
Ben, was that $1,500 acre or hectare?
Per acre.
So... you're showing a whole day of work in Australia. NOBODY was eaten by a crocodile. NOBODY was bitten by a black mamba, green mamba, yellow mamba, orange mamba, striped mamba, or even spotted mamba. NOBODY was kicked by a kangaroo. NOBODY was poisoned by a poisonous flower. The people are called Rob and Chris, not Stan-o and Jonsey. WHERE THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!? OHIO!?!? Horrible whitewashing of Australia. **shaking head**

Great vid well done.
Awesome thanks 🙏👍💪.
Very nice 😢
Ben, thanks for the impressive video. Have you come across any 18 meter Honeybee fronts-?
Extraordinary open landscape! Those combines s we call them in this part of the world (Ireland ..... Greetings to all involved!) sure are travelling at pace through the crop. Awesome operation.
Nice video. I like the personal touch!
Good filming and information as always Ben, stay safe everyone. 🇬🇧
Love the videos... haven't had the opportunity to drive out of Perth to watch some harvesting this year, so always love seeing the hard work of those doing the hard yards.
Great to see lots of young kiwis still making the trek to WA. Great video 🍺🍺
As always a very fine video, thanks.
A shout out for 8 yr old youtuber called charlie farmer from bungbong vic
Great video and information again Ben, if you're in the combine cab next time Ben could you film a view of the header working from the cab?
Will do.😊
Will do.😊
Once again Ben,thanks for these videos you put out it’s always great to see what’s happening at the other end of the state.
Awesome looking combines and headers
Great video Ben
How come they were dropping the straw in windrows in the lupins?
Rather than have seed destructors on every machine sucking up 10% power, they decided to use destructors on only two and use them where the weeds are. The windrows can be burnt later.
I would like to get information about how to grow sweet lupin business in Turkey. I believe that it is still an untapped market in Turkey and I would like to support local farmers on how improve their processes and how to monitize it going forward. Do you have any suggestion with whom I can contact to to get more information
A couple farmers in WA have tried to sell Lupins as a flour but it has gone by the wayside because of taste.
@@BenCrosthwaite1 Lupin, despite its significant nutritional benefits, remains underutilized. While it’s often assumed that the primary issue is its lack of awareness among consumers, but you said it could be also its taste. Hasn’t this challenge been addressed through breeding efforts? Have low-alkaloid lupin varieties with a milder taste been developed?
@sinemkokten6959 From what I know the WA Ag Dept have come a long way in breeding but two three grows have spent a lot of money to get no result. Mainly the tase has been the problem.
Great filming, pictures and information Ben.
Looks like the yield turned out good over there after the dry start A lot of frosted crops in southern NSW
Impressive, the rain does wonders.
Nice video of the operation. . Nexat? 🤔
Not far away Martin.😊
@BenCrosthwaite1 🤔. .I meant if the big nexat harvester is better? Usually see being used in Ukraine? Or I got the name wrong?
@@Martin_Priesthood that’s what I meant Matin those machines won’t be long before they are here.
@BenCrosthwaite1 ooh now I understand. . How come they got to Ukraine first and Australia is well known for extra large farms?
@BenCrosthwaite1 15000 Acres is quite impressive. . wish you the best. .
awesome to see great footage
Your drone shots are great giving some idea of the scale of the farms
good morning, 7 tons of lime, isthat to the hectare or acre?????? cheers
That would be a ha.😊

the remarkable thing for me ben is how you got that crap sandy country to produce .what did you do?
The main break though over the last 10 years has been deep ripping down 700ml and at least 2t per ha of lime aside from the build up of super phosphate over the years.
@@BenCrosthwaite1 How much does that cost per hectare ?
@@stewatparkpark2933 As I am only the photographer, I've lost track, but at a guess, it would be around 2t a ha.
Love seeing these videos... I can;t always make int into the countryside to watch some harvesting.
Thanks Ben ... much appreciated.
Good luck combining your 2024 crops Ben and crew
Great video Ben
I wish I could join your team during harvest
Amazing to see what's become of land that would have been considered of little value 40 - 50 years ago.
Nice video as usual Ben and great to hear about expected good yields too. A significant change from earlier on though when they were considering cutting back their cropping program due to lack of rain.
Good to see you back Ben showing agriculture in your part of the world, I'm looking forward to seeing more of what will be a busy time of the year.🇬🇧
