I love riding motorcycles, fixing motorcycles, and exploring this beautiful Island. I moved to Vancouver Island a while back and wanted to share my experience with you. I hope you enjoy riding along with me and exploring this beautiful place.
Avenue of the Giants in the Redwood Forest
My wife and I rode down to California to ride the Redwood Forest. It was an incredibly hot day, but the trees are spectacular. Enjoy the ride.

This is the next step in our Utah adventure. We got to the bottom of the Schafer Trail and began to take Potash road out. Unfortunately, my mic got unplugged, and the heat made my camera mount soft, so it bounces around. In this video, I talk about why it’s better to be safe, so you can ride another day. Enjoy!

I love this build so much!!! It looks gorgeous and sounds glooooorius!
Thanks! It was a fun build. And yes, the sound was incredible.
Just subbed, looking forward to the Beemer stories. I have been tossing a few Adv bikes around, mainly the Gs1250/1300, Africa Twin and the new Ducati V2. Love the shaft that was on my Tiger 1200 and Tenere but we shall see.
If you travel long distances the shaft drive is very nice. It's very smooth on the r1200gsa, no real shaft jack like I have felt on other bikes. Thanks for the sub. Check out my videos in Moab. All done on the r1200gsa.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures I love Moab! Just saw them so will watch them tomorrow. Was there in 2016 and would love to go back. Planning BC for 2025!
I had a 2010 GSA and got a used 2017 in 2018. The day I rode with you guys on your Tigers(the day you got a wrench in your tire) I was impressed with the tigers but knew the GSA was better for me. They ride smaller then they are, they have fantastic riding settings(the newer ones adjust many things about the bike when you set them to enduro, including throttle response) . The steepest and rockiest of those roads were about as bad as I would want to go but I have done many gravel roads two up as well. I am also 6'5" so it feels made for me. Enjoy your beemer.
The Tiger is a great bike, but it likes to be riden faster off road. It's the really slow stuff that seems to be tough on it. Glad you like the beemer!
I made the switch as well. The BMW feels like a much smaller bike. Easy to handle and ride. I’m sold. BTW, I’ve never taken my to a coffee shop. 😅
Lol, coffee fuels my adventures! It's important to have a bike that looks good at the coffee shop too.
LOVE the Moki. I've done it twice
Totally the wrong type of bike for that kind of riding. My Suzuki DR650 with Progressive Suspension would be perfect for that. No ABS, no need for ABS.
How would your DR650 do on the 20 hours of interstate to get there? Ian actually has a DR650 at home, yes it would have been nicer on the gravel, but there's a lot of Interstate to get there. His Vstrom was doing just fine, he just hit neutral instead of 1st. It happens.
If you're riding dirt and you're not taking the occasional dirt nap you just need to try harder. ;-) I tend to get out of shape once every few thousand miles... on my TAT tour(rode it in 19 days) that equated to 3 wrong side up's over the 7000 miles (hit a cow, rut in deep silt, trying to back up on a very steep climb on Engineer Pass).
Oh yah, it happens. I'm just glad he was OK. You hit a cow? We were told that in Utah, if we hit a cow on an "open range" we would be charged for the damages to the cow. I hadn't heard that before.
What selfie stick are you using for your 360 camera?
Just the Insta selfie stick. But I taped the joints together so it doesn't slide down on the bumps.
Thank you very much for sharing, I would like to ask you about the materials quality after 2 years use?
Sorry, I can't help you there. I really liked the C5, but I bought the wrong size. Now you can get replacement pads and I could have made it fit. But when I bought it, it was so new that the pads were not available. So I sold it and bought an RPHA 90S Carbon. I regret that decision, but I needed a helmet for a trip I was going on.
Good video! Keep doing it. I am searching for a Tiger 800 in Alberta.
Thanks for watching. The Tiger is a great bike, I got mine from Alberta too.
I was between sizes, with the L being much too tight on the forehead, but the XL feeling a bit loose on the sides. My C5 is on order and I plan to use the thicker cheek pads to dial in the fit.
I hope that works for you. I had one size too big, so I got rid of it for an Rpha 90s Carbon. I still regret that decision. I should have waited for thicker cheek pads.
dude, that was the best review i've seen in a long time. your description summed it up perfectly for what this bike is for. i'm currently lookin into getting one due to i have the cash at the moment and i need to let my car go cause i can't afford payments anymore, but my crotch rocket days are past and i just want to cruise... safe journeys 🤘😎
Thanks, I appreciate it! I hope you find a great bike.
my father in law passed away due to a terminal cancer and I'm planning to inherit his bike, just passed my motorcycle course this weekend wanted to thank you for this review it helped me a lot getting to know. hope to carry on the torch :)
Tim , I know this was 2 years ago but , did you have any issues with your Triumph on this trip ?
The Tiger was a great bike for this trip. The only issue I had was the sticky mud got in the rear brake and made the pads drag. Around Whitehorse I had no rear pad left. Not ideal, but I made it home fine. Thanks for watching.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures thanks for the reply. 1050 in Florida
Just bought my second one, had a C3 which i was really disappointed with the quality and HJC fits me better
I've been wanting to go explore those areas. Trying to decide how early in the year I could go.
Just don't go in June through September. It's too hot. Well worth it though, the entire area is incredible.
I just ran across you and I'm really impressed! Good commentary, cinematography, editing and the rest. Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures When did you make the trip?
@@G0ld3nB3ar I went at the end of June. I was there for the summer solstice.
I just got this helmet and the noise above 60 is absolutely ridiculous i also have the hjc 50b smart intercom and the speakers are horrific definitely sound cheap compared to my old cardo freecom 2x
Interesting, thanks for sharing your feedback. Noise is always a funny thing, it depends on the fit of the helmet, what bike you are riding and how the wind hits it. I always wear ear plugs no matter what helmet I'm in. Champion Helmets did testing and found it to be about equal to some of the Shoie Helmets. My wife has loved it so far. Out of curiosity, what helmet are you coming from? We run Cardo's in our helmets, I wouldn't recommend the hjc units. Thanks for watching.
If you are experiencing a clunky Transmission shift, try a little throttle blip yo match your we engine speed with your speedometer speed.
Great review!!
What length shocks did you end up going with?
It's been a while, so I can't remember exactly. 13" comes to mind, and I think I used a shock extension link.
Where did you get your rear hoop?
Amazon. You have to measure well, and I think I bought a couple before I found the right one.
My buddy dumped his pulling out of his driveway. It stalled suddenly just as he took off and slammed down. When I rode it I stalled it seversl times. I figured it is just that I'm not used to it.
Yah, you need to give it more gas than other bikes. You get used to it pretty quickly, and you can always change the front sprocket to help with that too.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Just a little different from my Hondas. I still want one. Smooth and powerful on the road. I have a hard time keeping up on my old Wing. The bike that was replaced with the Tiger was an '01 Legend 3 cylinder carbureted. Still runs perfect and no oil burning after 100,000 miles.
I want this bike
That video quality is awesome. The red cliffs at the beginning of the video almost look fake in contrast to the closer green
Amazing. What a contrast!
Might get this as a first bike (I’m a adult kid)
My friend had a vmax with a pillow for his seat. He told me, I had to make me tougher to be a good rider. Mine, it was a vstar 1100 with a big windshield. We come back in heavy rain. lol Now, I was the tough guy with the warm engine and good wind protection. I watched him and never stop laughing at him. This is suited for trips, not a vmax. I forgot, I had full padded Gore-Tex motorcycle clothes, not leather and jeans.
The proper gear makes every ride more enjoyable. I ride with an Airhawk and can go many more hours in a day. The more comfortable you are the safer you are. Your reaction time is way slower if you are freezing cold.
Totally agree on the low speed stall bit. I have dropped mine twice when pulling away when heavily loaded for touring.
When it's all loaded up you do need more throttle and clutch slip than when it's unloaded.
Enjoyed your video! Moab is one of my favorite places to visit and explore.
Thanks for watching. I'll definitely have to go back and see more.
In July of this year two motorcycle riders were taken for advanced medical care in Las Vegas, and a third died from heat exposure near Badwater Basin. Heat exposure is no joke. In Baja we learned to wear well vented body armour with a off road/vented jersey, vented pants and a "camelbak" filled with ice then toped with Gatoraid. The melting ice on our backs really helped to keep the body temps down as well is diluted the Gatoraid to much more reasonable concentration of suger and salt which are very important in staying hydrated. Switchieng to a well vented Dirt Helmet is also very helpful as most ADV or street helmets simply do not vent nearly as well as a good dirt helmet.
Good tips Rick. I had mesh riding gear and a camel pack, but it just wasn't enough. I'm going to have to re think what time of year I go to hot places.
Thank you Tim for the great video. My brother-in-law and I did the trail in early May. You bring back some amazing memories! I hope you did not do the Thelma and Louise jump! ;)
Thanks for watching! We tried to keep jumping off cliffs to a minimum, lol. Incredible scenery though!
2:24… the slow reveal. Such cool terrain.
But isn’t it all so much fun Tim? Lol
Greate evaluation of my dream bike🙂
Great video. Thanks.
Its a Japanese - ofcourse its good🕺🏼
How tf I knew this was in BC
I say the only down side to vstar 1100s is the valve train noise that’s just alittle louder then most vtwins I’ve had 3 and still riding one tho ! Great bikes

To me the Vstar 1100 was a good platform. Like you said, its not too big but not too small, not too little power but not too much power... its the perfect median cruiser. I regret selling mine at times, so much so I am looking to get another one. One big thing people can do for cheap that really wakes up the bike is pod filters and rejet, you can buy a full "Chubby kit" which is popular that includes all needed items. After adding that the power gains were very noticeable and help push bike along better especially with my larger than average self.
Intercoms should be universal, so you could use them in every helmet. Nice review! Thanks!
I bought a 1981 CB750 Custom when I was 16 back in 1990. Had 26,--- on it and Paid $1800 for it. LOVED IT! Only dumped it one time due to the city just laying FRESH Gravel on the highway and I was making a turn but as slow as I could. Rear Tire slipped. Bent the handlebar. Was 50yrds from work where the boss man took a torch and bend it back into shape. Had it 9yrs.. Missed it. Traded it for a R/V and got $2500 for it. 2020 and get the Stimulate Check.. Found Another, Same year, Same Backrest and Luggage Rack Plus a Front Cowl in NEW Shape but not attached and some other random pieces. $2200... Had 27,--- on it. Started Right Up and Sounded Good. Got it home and Rode it 4 times before it went to Shit on me.. Guy got it running Just Enough to Sell it.. 2024. Got it back from the Shop and cost AROUND $5,000 to Rebuild the engine. Still needs Minor work done to it like, Exhaust that Leaks at head, Lower End gone through, Struts and Shocks and other Minor Stuff. Had to have New Tires, Breaks and Cylinder, Seat, Chain and other Minor Stuff. Is Ridable and has less than 400m on it at time of posting this. Exhaust is missing the Single Hole Option and has the Multi Hole One or Original Owner Messed around with them. My Original One had the Single Hole Ones. So it's Louder than my Original One. Same Blue Color as my First. Has a Shield in front of the Gauges that helps aim air away from my face/head so I Can Wear a Friction/Elastic Fit Baseball Cap while doing 50mph. Dumped this one while Parked because my Shoelace got caught on the Kickstand and just laid it down trying to get it untangled. Couple of guys just got done pulling in at the Gas Station it happened at and helped me get it off my leg. We Laughed. Did Snap the Clutch Lever but was still usable. Needs a Good Cleaning. Gas Tank Interior could use one also but is clean enough to use.. Will be putting 100% Gas in it and Not the 10-15% stuff. May Cost more but worth it.. NOT Getting Rid of this One.. Is A Little Harder now getting On and Off at my age. Legs don't like to go that high anymore. Wish Idiots would STOP Turning them into Cafe Racers. Not sure if I want to put the Color Matching Cowl on or not. Would make it look more like a Gold Wing. But was told I would get worse Gas Millage. I am getting about 40mpg and even Saw 50mpg. Filling up every 100miles to help keep Tank Clean and Gas Fresh. May cost ( at time of posting this ) $4.00 a Gallon and not the $3.25 of the 10-15% but Worth it. Peace and Enjoy!
"I wish idiots would STOP turning them into cafe racers." 😳 I guess I won't show you what I did to this one then.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Didn't get notified you replied.. YT keeps turning Notifications Off and have No F'n Clue why.. Plus they Love to delete my Comments..
regarding the comms units: 1) the additional pannel on the other side is for the other control unit for the 50B comms systems which comes with SENA's mesh. 2) You can buy adapters that click in to the slot on the left side you then attach your cardo too. This makes for a seamless design which I really like, especially with a packtalk slim (the slim doesnt fit rpha 71 sadly without modifying it)
Thanks. Do you have a link for that adapter plate?
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Idk why but my comment was not added, I'll try again. I have found such plates on a phillipinian website, these are 3d printed. I might have jumped the gun too soon with stating "you can buy" them. I guess that since rpha 71 is quite new the product is not in demand yet. Cardo makes dedicated plates for shoei gt-air 2 and nxr 2 helmets, some ppl are making those for Logan helmets etc. I think that it will take some time before there will be ones available for RPHA71 However, if you have a friend with 3d printer or access to an university one this might solve the problem for you. Although I know how it sounds until the adapter plates will start being widely available thats all I can think of for now. I am also considering purchasing this helmet since it fits my head the best. Since I dont have friends ( :( ) I was thinking about going with sena dedicated comms to listen to music and take phonecalls. Do you have any experience with this?
@@teodor103 I don't know about the Sena, but we use the Cardo system and it works great. We just stuck it on the side and it works fine. The problem for me is if you have 2 helmets the integrated system doesn't work. Also, if you get rid of that helmet and buy a new one, you need a new come system. So the Cardo works well for us.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures these are both valid points.
I heard these are complicated to work on. You have to remove the pipes to change the oil?
Depends on what you think is complicated I guess. Removing exhaust is a few bolts, but how many fasteners do you have to remove to take off a sport bike fairing? I guess it's harder than some, but it's not that bad.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Personally, I like a bit of spannering. And regular pipe removal helps keep it clean I guess.
I just ordered the C5. Never owned a modular helmet before and really like the looks of the Schuberth.
14t front sprocket, Galfer front rotors, Madstad windscreens (large and small), get suspension tuned, and then keep the Tiger and buy a KTM Exe-f for the real dirt trails.
All good options, but I went to the dark side and bought a BMW 😬
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures I love the suspension on the late model GS 1250s, and I would take a GSA on bumpy paved roads down, Mexico Way. But they are big heavy bikes and when the front wheel looses traction life get real exciting and expensive quickly. Find the YT posts that illustrate who to keep the rear shaft splines well lubed and all should be good. :)
Those roads look familiar! :)
It's a nice detour on the way out to Renfrew
Just bought my 2005 vstar 1100 today...
Does it get too hot in the city cause being a air-cooled...
Congrats on the new bike!
Sorry, I can't answer if it gets hot, I didn't ride it enough and it wasn't that warm here. Maybe someone else can chime in about it.
The yahmah vstar 1100 fits me perfect just love to cruise just feeling the rumble in the wind
