Looking good Jordan looking good For steers i have no loss of Pride to bring them a bail while they're grazing if it helps put weight on and balance their ration a little bit What if you unrolled the bail In the strip where you mowed It is so interesting to just hang out with them and watch what they eat You remember what the summer of 93 was like it was the summer that never happened
I'm assuming the summer of 93 was only important because God knew I was born.
@@Heimerviewfarm ha, That's a rather ominous birth year reference for your appearance on the Earth
Looks like you need a brush hog for the D15! Lol
Sure do lol
I think that was an equipment tese if i ever heard one! 👍
Crap I forgot to mention that but just some fixing and might be getting a few small things.
Jordan looks good can't wait to see the steers in few months. They look healthy. Keep up the good work.
They are filling out nicely and putting on some weight.
Looking good Jordan, I’m happy to see things progressing for you my friend.
Thanks Tony. Taking it one day at a time and enjoying every minute.
Nice work Jordan and good to see you making hay. The new baler looks like it works well. Have a great weekend
Money well spent on that baler. It just needs a little tlc and it will be perfect. Sure better that dealing with small squares!
Sure is, not a single knotter issue. Deffinitelly wouldn't have gotten far without your help including a video. Lol
@Heimerviewfarm Is your camera man for hire?
@e.a.bfarms hahaha I'm not very good, lucky I even got this short clip!
@@e.a.bfarms for extra money he will provide commentary
@larsonvalleyfarm Somone has to get us the subs, right Jordan? Brads over there hogging them all. Lol.
New rake must have worked well?
Yes it did. Way better than my previous rake.
Nice! This is not the spring For making dry hay
It's deffinitelly been tough. Just glad I decided to cut that field when I did. Stuff was thin enough and made for easy hsy making.
Awesome job baling Jordan, hope you have a blessed weekend my friend.
Looks great!! That should help grab it really well!! 😁😁 Look fwd to seeing that!!
I'm hoping so and the welds hold up.
@@Heimerviewfarm 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
Nice seeing the green team up and running. Looks like some bad fuel ⛽️ maybe with sentiment or too much ethanol crap? Just my thoughts
I think there's residue in the tank. Anything that we dont use daily gets non ethanoled gas.
Absolutely love seeing that 1600 out doing its thing!! Cant beat free hay!! Those fuel issues can be a bear, but looks like yiu got it dialed in!! Congrats my friend!! Looking fwd to seeing what's next!! 😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Keep watching we're gonna give it all we got. Just gotta get the baler a chance and we will be ready to roll.
@@Heimerviewfarm 😁😁😁👍👍👍
There's just something about the smell and sound of a gas tractor
Tell you what, I'd have a sweet setup for the 80s
Free hay is good! You'll get your fuel issue figured out. What fixed mine was putting a screen on the inlet to the sediment bowl. All states had them for 11 or 12 bucks. Had to drill out the inlet hole to put it in but I haven't had trouble since. Hope you have a good one!
Being this tractor sat im just gonna keep watching it but if it gets worse I'll be doing the same thing this winter. Have excess hay will be nice especially after last year
Looking good Jordan, I’m happy for you my friend.
Thanks Tony, God has truly blessed us.
After running the 1600, what one do you prefer 190 vs 1600?
Pros and cons, 190 has the option for 2 speeds every gear, 1600 has live PTO. 190 had the diesel in the hills but didn't have hydraulics when the clutch was used
How's haying going for you?
@@Heimerviewfarm We are not off to a good start. . . Lol.
Awesome Jordan, just got back from NY and heping with farm chores for few days. I think all I have done is sleep lol. Steers are going to pack on the weight and balers always seem to have quirks to workout.
Hello David, good to see you my friend.
Looks like you got plenty of grass! Shouldnt have to feed hay until snow flys?
These guys should be off to freezer camp by that time. We might end up giving them a bale if we get in the summer lul.
Man yeah, love seeing the progress you have made!! Sounds like they figured it out quickly!! Looking fwd to seeing somw grass go though the eauy😉😉 Thank you sir for the update, and look fwd to seeing whats next!! 😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
One step at a time, one day we will get there. Thanks for stopping by.
@@Heimerviewfarm 😁😁😁
Nice job Jordan, happy to see you progressing. Take care and have a blessed week my friend.
Those are some nice, calm steers. The previous owner must spend a lot of time with his cattle!
They sure are, quick learners too
Good start, good choice on letting the grass re-seed itself. It's been tough to get hay off down here in South central Kansas with rain every other day and wheat harvest starting any day.
There's been a few guys saying the bugs are bad so I'm hoping we don't have the weevil issue and have to cut it short.
Looking really good Watch how much they walk and graze versus laying down chewing cud If they're walking too much make the paddock smaller But bring them a straw bale to chew on and you might notice that they spend more time laying down chewing cud
They tend to make a round finding grass but as soon as I walk out they gotta come out as well.
I also have two " PARKS " ( cows) they are very mellow animals and gain fast......easy keepers.....just a bit on the heavy side though. Train them with a hot wire before you ever leave them out ! Feed them a bit of grain under a hot wire. They will learn fast ! Get in the pen....keep your distance and slowly work with each one. I was told if they are wild they will always be wild. Totally not true ! If you work with them......feed them ear corn out of your hand they will become pets ! I delt with this same sort of issue when I bought my 20 cow heard. They had never been on a concrete floor. The cows were on the farm for a week before they came on the cement floor. A week later two aborted. No water. Bottom line.......work with them..... play with them.......tease them. Cows will calm down ! However after 2 years.......sell any animal that cant conform ! Dont need trouble makers !
I only joked because they came off a farm that they would come right up to me. The first time in pasture they didn't know what to think of the poly wire but respected the perimeter wire. Everyone has fit right in and have had zero issues since the first day on pasture.
@@Heimerviewfarm Thats great ! At least your open to " comments " right or wrong. So many people on TH-cam will block a person if they make any type of negative comments . For them.............its only about " income " ( youtube income ) ........Not the real aspect ....called farming !
@@jimmyjohnson7041 I'm not in TH-cam for the money, I'm in it for the journey and to show people how far you can go with farming. You were right on the park cattle, they are a park, sim ,Angus cross.
You mentioned you’re hauling water from up by the house? What is your longterm water supply plans though?
Long term, I plan on trenching a water line and electrical.
Good for you for rescuing them from their previous owner, they look to have been terrible abused 😜
Yeah they never saw much feed. I'm interested to see how they finish out
That's cuz you've never butchered a true manage grass finish. Boom! Absolutely use some grain in them and over the next 40 years you can experiment You think the previous owner whipped them a lot to make them jumpy
Cool sorry late to the show been volunteering for the forest 🌳 service this weekend just been going to bed when I get home 🏠
Great to have cattle to help control the grass. Now you need to hunt some bear before the bear hunt your beef.
I'm not worried, if I had calves maybe but they are so timid.
You got your steers, I’m happy for you
Expensive time to get in the cow business 😳😉🙂
Sure is but for burger, people are willing to pay.
It's an accomplishing feeling, isn't it? Something to be proud about!
It sure is, after turning this place from what it was to something that fits my operation. It's a huge weight off my shoulders.
Beautiful cattle Jordan. Brad has nice cattle
Thanks, he has a great herd.
Look at that grass! Need a refractometer to manage the movement of the steers! Good job on Brad for helping a young guy get going! Now you just need your apple cider vinegar tub and quality mineral Remember don't graze under 50% of height.
Does the apple cider vinegar help?
@Heimerviewfarm supposedly it is a natural wormer. So then you will have dung beetles in your patties. Also helps with feed efficiency, over all health.
So if thats true....... grazing 50% of height ??? Then what are the calves suppose to eat ? Raw stems ? The cows are already eating that ! Of which decreases milk production in a major way !!!! That leaves the calves rate of gain where ???? They have stems to eat....and little no milk ? As a previous dairy farmer I know what it takes to produce milk ! You dont get milk from a cow feeding them stems !!!!!
@jimmyjohnson7041 as dairy farmers we worked for the cow and brought them everything. Learning how to graze, it's a lot to learn but quite fascinating. When we say 50% of the height, that means graze down to 50% not start at 50%. Then everyone has plenty of food, The 50% is a rule of thumb. If they eat the top 50%, the grass is growing back almost immediately. If you graze down to 25% of the height, the plant now needs 1-2 weeks to rebuild roots before it starts growing again. If you graze it down like lawn, depending on species and time of year, that might be the last grazing for that bay. The refractometer helps with steers. Young grass high in protein will take fat off a steer, so a straw bale while grass is rich helps a lot and small bays so they don't run. But if you can watch brix readings and let that pasture age a little, when the brix get high is when the plant has good energy and will put on weight like silage.
Blessed wishes with you cows Jordan, will be interesting to see how you and they progress.
It was a heck of a morning! Brad should probably just buy a new trailer! 😂
Would have made for a great vlog style video.

Gehl makes good bales
There's a few videos of them on TH-cam. Seems like a simple baler, just never know with auction buys.
Coming together very nice buddy! When you thinking you will take first cut?
Probably gonna let everything get more mature to put a seed head on. Won't be quality but will help thicken the stand greatly.
Awesome glad things are coming together and everything is so green. We could use rain 🌧️ here.
Are you guys below on rainfall.

Thanks farva, the end result is one day at a time
Always good to have choices for suppliers!! I called three times to check price on urea. Never got a call back, so we tried something different.. Sounds like you have it figured out 👍🤞
We only have one supplier for fert in the area but they mainly focus on the grain guys now. Hay crop should be good once things get growing.
@@Heimerviewfarm we have 2, right next to each other. And a couple more 70 miles away. Plus the farm stores that handle some.. trying Sea90 Foliar mineralizer this year. So far, it looks promising. I want to get the granular stuff next year and broadcast it on. We have to have it brought in. But..
Nice baler
Sure wish Gehl was still around, they made some nice equipment.
Nice addition to the farm. Hopefully you get many years out of it.
Hey Jordan That looks like an amazing peice to fall into place. I have taken a step back and reworking my books. So haven't been watching yt as much. Take care and can't wait to see you make some bales and get some steers. 😅
First round baler I had years ago was a Gehl 1500. Fairly similar. Only issue I ever had with the big belt, I had to put a new splice on it once. Otherwise, like Ed said, keep an eye on the bearings. It should do what you need it to do.
I bet I wasn't to far from your place, between gilmanton and lookout.
