They are all the same. Given something every level up, Luke is no different than Gort, etc. The differences are very minor. Surprising of all is the fact were it not for nothing rng's the birdmen would be as strong as your MC.

IMO Gracia is a beast, specially if we play a second cycle, and Brigit can make a mess in battle too. Both characters can do AoE so I'd consider them better than Kate.

Shining force 3 will always be eternal. Julian Force is the strongest having the most difficult characters to choose who will be in the main line. By the way, I'm very connected to scenario 1 because it's where everything started and we here in Western had early access. It's more like an emotional connection. Nonetheless, scenario 2 has the charmest force, highlighting the Imperial storyline which were the plots were unveiled. All this together with the soundtrack and challenges make this game unbeatable.

A reason to use these party members is to make the game more challenging/rewarding, and for the sake of exploring these more unique party members

Monks are over-rated if you aren't cheesing and overleveling. You have enough front-line fighter options that you don't need your support characters also fighting on the frontline taking hits. Give me the extra MP from being a vicar anytime. If the opportunity presents itself, and you don't have anyone to heal, you can use blast to pick up some kill exp with Sarah and Karna. Slow is also great with Sarah. Enemies with -40% def will even make Janet look S tier when landing hits. Also, I love the brass gunner class. My playstyle usually involves me slowly pushing the map, staying in formation for the most part, and waiting for the enemies to throw themselves at my frontline tanks. So, having less movement really doesn't matter much since I am not running full speed at every group of enemies.

Great insights! I played this game through once when I didn't even know any english yet! I loveded it (the great soundtrack really helped too!) and still leveled everyone (that I happened to get, didn't know about the unit selections or different promo options or what nots back then) to 99 after promo!

Sounds about right. The top four always comprise my active party unless I need a field skill like dig.

Scenario 3 of Shining Force 3 had IMO, the best shining force character cast out of any of the games. Shame the story falls apart in disk 3. 2 best characters in my run were Honesty and Spirial though. Felt like they could tag team the whole game, lol. The only thing on the list I can't agree with is Spirial's placement, not having magic doesn't matter when you can mow through the entire enemy army singlehandedly and have a cool backstory.. "Edmund is a traitor by the way, never forget that" Dude, treachery is the pastime of the republic in SF3, *who isn't a traitor* by the end? XD And I never even used Turk or Unoma. Turk because you get him so late, and Unoma because why would I use him when there are so many other, cooler characters? And why tf are you the last character we recruit? You're boring! The last character is supposed to be cool! Braff should've been Julian's final character since Jane doesn't count.

I too am a sucker for the redeemed villain character archetype. Anytime a former adversary switches sides to the good guys, they get automatic points. Especially if they have a cool design and an unwinnable bossfight earlier in the game.

You can do a code at the start screen to make the battles go faster. here you go: Turbo Speed "At the game's title screen, hit Up, Down, Up, Down, B, then hold Start, A, and C. The main screen screen will appear. After picking your name, hold those same three buttons again."

FYI there is a secret in battle#18. Check the river and bushes on the right side of the bridge before Crossing the bridge.

It is in fact possible to beat the chess board by taking out the enemies one by one until only the king is left. All you have to do is to squeeze your units into one corner of the board and wait. The AI will send the enemies two by two. This way you earn the most exp from this fight. I just wouldn't recommend it for a speedrun.😆😉

I make Karna a Vicar, but this is mainly a result of playing on Super difficulty; it is really dangerous to put someone with a defense as low as Karna on the front lines and a defense boost is so impactful that she basically becomes a Boost Aura bot using magic every single turn. Sarah;s physical stats are better than Karna's on level, so she is the one that gets the Vigor Ball for me (she is fragile as well, but losing her in a fight is much less impactful than losing Karna). Also surprised that you put Eric!Pegasus Knight over Rick!Pegasus Knight when both are equally-boring, yet Rick has arguably better stats.

Willard is a great catch up level battle.

What is that corrupt Higins spell? Also great video. I do enjoy using the birdmen just because they can fly, but my god they are weak. While Peter is great, he's just uncontrollable when you first meet him and he steals everyone's XP which is annoying, especially when you're trying to level a certain character. I did use Rhode in my playthrough, as I like the graphic effect when his cannon attacks enemies and it's like a nuclear bomb has just gone off. Still, one of the best games ever. I really wish they would remaster it and make some more.

Forget Shining Force vs. Shining Force 2....what about Shining Force 2 vs. Shining Force CD? I can't answer that myself as it has been years since I played them. However, I beat the first game (again) last night and am about to jump into Shining Force CD in about 15 minutes (Sega Genesis Mini 2). The reason I'm doing this now and not 2 years ago when I got the mini is I had/have too many games I need to finish. I actually wasn't ready to do this massive playthrough yet, but... I finally got Shining Force III in all of its glory for my Saturn (all three scenarios in English). I have always wanted to play them all in the order they released back-to-back, and now it's finally happening. So freaking stoked. Love the video.

I remember being 8 years old, being on the VERY LIST TILE of the ice cave before the exit, hit a random encounter, it was a GrPEDE...never fought one before, but it cannot be that hard, right? And there is only one! It wiped me, and it was already something like my 50th attempt trying to get that floater outside of the dungeon. 30 years later, this is still the most frustrated I have ever been playing a video game. Also, you forgot to mention arguably the dungeon's strongest enemy; the MAGE can just wipe parties before you even have a chance to act.

The floating castle artwork was done dirty in the subsequent remakes. The whole point was you were supposed to hear about it and realize it was not a literal castle, but rather a euphemism for what was actually a SPACE STATION, hence why all the chests look futuristic and why there were teleporters to switch floors. The art style in later games took the castle in the clouds aesthetic too literally and lost that bit of appeal.

LMAO. I laugh at these lists. ANY character that joins already promoted, is trash. The only characters worth playing are those who can be leveled to 40 before promotion. Any other characters are a waste of time.

And I thought I was the only one who had problems with the wooden panel in SF2 and the dragon head in the SF1. Thanks

Shew I’d love to know what the odds and requirements are for Vegeta to transform in this fight….in all my years of playing this, I’ve only had it happen once in one of my early-not being too good at the game yet-playthroughs….i remember him transforming and pretty much nuking my ass I’m at this point in the game with a Goku that has a BP of over 12,000 base….i might stand a snowball’s chance in hell at beating Oozaru Vegeta with Kaioken Goku…..maybe, with enough Grandpa Gohan-Piccolo card spam lol….plus I have Yajirobe in case things don’t go well (I actually don’t know what Goku’s BP is with a Z level Kaioken, with a base of 12,000 I’m thinking it should go up quite a bit)

Scenario 2 has easily the weaker force out of the three.

I do agree with most of the list, probably would have Spiriel and Produn on Good as I never felt that General were that strong. Spiriel also lacking spells does not help, but I always found her stronger than Produn. 100% agree with Marky, she is such a powerhouse. Freeze is definitely the most cost effective spell on the whole game, and on her it feels even stronger, idk why.

this game was so awesome.. Story, characters, unlockable secrets, characters design, music. Although I can imagine i wouldn't like it on modern graphics... I like when the graphics have this sort of balance between realistic and cartoonish/fantasy. I don't like the current trend of making everything cartoonish with excessive difference between body ratio and lack of textures and colors too bright full with effects the hide the animations

I have never seen a breakdown of the later games characters. Hopefully I can remember all the wacky circumstances required to recruit everyone.

The ones that gave me the most trouble were the mustache demon, kraken, chess match and red baron.

karn IS legendary. karn should have the bleaj theme and bleu the dragon shrine/wisdon theme. karn can hit triple 9 so bleu damage is still lower than karn's plus he can counterattack
