Honestly I only want to submit to local N.M. festivals so I can make contacts with other directors and producers in my area. I cannot afford to travel with a family of 5 so sending my feature off to other places is out of the question. Is this really the only way to get distribution for my film?
Jeff Lennan Hi! I understand. Distributors and/or Sales Reps tend to attend the bigger festivals and bigger markets, but the good news is you don't necessarily have to be at the festival. If your project screens at a Los Angeles or New York festival and there is interest, the sales rep/distributor will get your contact info from the festival. Also, if you get very specific about what big festivals you want to submit to, you can choose to attend just one festival if you get in. There are also plenty of films that do not have a festival run and still get distribution. I hope that helps and thanks for tuning in!
@@IndieARTISTSTribe Let me ask you this, I have a really good friend of my mothers who works for SONY. And she knows me very well when I was a child, I played with her kids growing up and she is very fond of me and my family. She has watched my short film and loved it! and also raved about how good my audio was. She is very busy now but she is making time to watch my new feature which has my whole family was in. So again I know she is excited to watch it. But I'm not certain what she does at SONY but she has gone into detail on marketing a film with me by email. So I'm assuming she knows about distribution, so do you think I would have a shot with her?

What does "attaching the sales rep" mean?
Hi, I wanted to email you about something but for some reason can't get your email to show up lol. I am an indie filmmaker out of Texas who just finished my 1st feature film & am dealing with a massive realization on Distribution VS Self-Distribution. I have some offers but being such a low budget it seems the one thing nobody ever talks about is how much MORE money you have to put in just to get a distribution deal: E&O Insurance, Title Rights, the over cost of bought music licensing once you get into the commercial area like distribution, etc...
