Species feature - Royal Whiptail Catfish
I've been keeping Royal Whiptail Catfish ( Sturisomatichthys aureus ) in aquariums for around 4 years and I've been lucky enough to have them spawn. This short video explains a bit about the fish and some of the tips I've picked up over the years on the best way to keep them, breed them and successfully raise their fry.
For more information I recommend the planet catfish website www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1167

    Hi thanks for the info on these fantastic whiptails can I ask I have 3 and there about 4 inches does the male develop the bristles at a older age , the 3 I have look smooth at the mo thanks again

    • @fishfaff2640
      @fishfaff2640 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 4 inches they are getting to the size where you might expect to start to see the bristles. Another factor is body shape. As per the shot at 4.30 on the video the girls are a bit rounder. If all yours are looking curvy like my female on the left then you may have all girls. It's worth noting that my male was closer to 6inches in length before I noticed the bristles. I also think that the bristles may stick out more when they are in breeding mode and retract a bit when they are not but as mine are always breeding, it's hard to verify.

    I have no prior knowledge of fish keeping so this is a revelation. It may catch up with my fast developing interest in telling stories through song, which is racing ahead at the minute. Fish and music - strange bed fellas maybe but hey its only happening in my head. So far!

      Thanks, Fish and music have one thing in common in my head, I think both are capable of being meditative.
