Totnes - Walking Tour - Probably the most unique town in Devon - England - UK - 2024 - 4K
Hello Everyone
Today I spent the morning in Totnes. Totnes is an amazing place to visit it is one of a kind with large amount of history. Unfortunately I couldn't get to see the small castle as it was closed, maybe I'll go back for a look just at the castle.
I do hope you enjoy the video, if so please leave a like and consider Subscribing.
Thank you, take care
About Totnes
Totnes is a market town in Devon, England, and the administrative center of the South Hams District Council. It is situated at the head of the River Dart estuary, around 5 miles west of Paignton, 7 miles west-southwest of Torquay, and 20 miles east-northeast of Plymouth. The town has a population of approximately 9,214 (as per the 2021 census).
Founded in 907, Totnes has a rich history, with its first castle built during this time. By the 12th century, it was already an important market town due to its strategic location on a main road and easy access to hinterland. In the 16th century, the town's wealth and importance are evident from the numerous merchant's houses built during this period.
Modern Totnes is known for its alternative and "New Age" community, and has gained a reputation as a place where one can live a bohemian lifestyle. However, it has also been noted as a UK hotspot for conspiracy theorists.
One famous connection to Totnes is Agatha Christie, who owned Greenway House in the area. She wrote several novels, including "Dead Man's Folly," which features Greenway House as one of the settings.
Agatha Christie bought Greenway soon after her second marriage to archaeologist Max Mallowan. The house and its surroundings are described in great detail in "Dead Man's Folly." The novel is not considered one of Christie's best works, but the area is rich in historical and scenic interest.
Today, Totnes is a bustling town, with a mix of historical buildings, modern shops, and a vibrant community spirit.

@3:03 thats a Double Aperture Post box
I live in the north midlands, but I'd love to move down to Totnes - unfortunately I can't afford it. But I think I would find my tribe there, it seems to have a lot of independent thinkers :o) And it's a lovely area!
@wendydee3007 I live about 5 miles away from Totnes, I went to college there 30 years ago. Like you I would love to live there the people who live there are so friendly, and its not your typical town, no chain stores. It is quite an expensive place to live mind.
