A climber removing a tree after Hurricane storm Sandy in Laurel NY. The area was flooded while strong winds pounded the shoreline. Many damaged trees had to be removed from this small dead end road overlooking the Great Peconic Bay. Now with another storm heading towards us we are scrambling to prepare for another round.

Fluid bed gold ore concentrator (Take 1)
มุมมอง 97K12 ปีที่แล้ว
My first go at making a fluid bed for gold ore concentrating. Initial testing with beach sand, iron filings and bb's. (No gold to test with here on Long Island NY). Approx $50 at Lowes and around 1-2 hours to assemble. For those who are not familiar with fluid beds, this is not a primary concentrator like a sluice box. It is intended to further process the heavy material from a sluice or simila...

    Thank you for taking the time to post on my video. I would like to clarify that I by no means tell anyone where to go. That is up to the individual. I simply provide any information available in a single library to better prepare oneself. Word of mouth is one of many resources that a person can use, however there are many others available that we have simply consolidated. Where I live is irrelevant, however I do have property and family in northern VT that I visit frequently. Happy New Year!

  • @CaptainMyCaptain33
    @CaptainMyCaptain33 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    So. You live where you can't prospect. But you're launching a website to tell members where to go? Am I understanding that right? Any prospector worth their salt knows where to look. And every state and county that has gold, its as simple of asking the person you bought your new prospecting gear from where to go. Unless you own some killer claims. And members get to go mine them for their money. Gooood luck. You should buy a tub for your water spillage.

We plan on releasing an updated video about the library in the next few weeks. In the meantime come have a look at our progress and let us know what you think. The parts used were chosen due to the price, availability and I would assume any Home Depot/Lowes has it (in ONE department), even some hardware stores. I honestly didn't have a plan on what I was going to use until I was at the store and saw what was available. That's when I came up with the design. I may use a different design if I want to make it bigger but this bed is for samples/small runs and works well. TY for the suggestion, I may in the future if needed.

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not as of yet. It takes an enormous amount of time to locate and assemble a library like this. Being the first of its kind, we are working extra hard to set a standard from which future libraries will be molded.

See step 2 in our download section for the "full version" to access our library. Also offered is Prospecting 101 "Prospector's Notes" for helpful notes collected in the field and on the net. We invite questions or suggestions for the operation of the library shown in the video.

    He has a very nice design but made for different purposes. The one I demonstrated is for small quantities like test samples or to verify that a sluice or other equipment is properly catching. The one you are showing us is for production level and is way more then the $50 price tag we are working with. But thanks anyway. I hope to have the time some day to get enough dirt to need such hardware! Hopeful thinking... :-)

    An important point that I should make is the sand used in this demonstration was very light and was easily evacuated. Good gold bearing dirt has a great deal of iron which should fill up the bowl and only expel as more is added. If the iron is very coarse it can stop the fluid action, at this point it should be emptied. The water supply should be slowly increased as the bowl becomes more dense without going to high. You can get a feel for this by looking at the fluid motion of the dirt.

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose it depends on what you are doing with it. But it was intentionally built to take a larger volume of dirt or cons and reduce it to the bowl's volume. Material does not go below the stopper, ever. That's why there is a sinker weighing it down to ensure discharge pressure. I have since ran a lot of Vermont dirt and caught flakes down to the size of a needle's point. I don't think bearings will work well due to the angle and pressure of the water. They may kick out the caught gold.

  • @ironmountaindesign
    @ironmountaindesign 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    very interesting, but why not just use the standard - basically the same but with a few rows of ball bearings, as the water pulsates up the push apart just long enough for the heaviest materials to fall through - gold and black sand

    Good Job

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Initially I planned this to process anything but as I have been running it I totally agree that it is suited for fine grains. In another vid I just posted I is showing the start of a feed that will regulate the rate and ensure the dirt is properly diffused upon entry. I feel that this may be only good as a secondary process (post sluice) to capture the super fines or to make sure the sluice is doing it's job correctly. I am also considering to shape the interior of the bowl.

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately I don't plan on taking it apart or spending another $50. However it's simple enough to explain. Think of it similar to a sink or basin. The only difference is the water comes up and not down. I added a 5oz sinker to the bottom of the stopper to ensure enough pressure to prevent the material from getting into or past the stopper. Maintain just enough water pressure to keep things churning and evacuating the bowl (only as you add material) and you have it. CLASSIFY ALL MATERIAL

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I walked into the store with a crude idea in mind and I walked out with a bag of parts. I just brought back pay dirt from VT this weekend that had super fine gold in it. After panning out what I thought was all the gold I then ran the dirt through it. I found about another 20% more gold that I missed. Real small stuff mixed in with fine and granular iron. I feel that it easily passed the first test. The finial classification mesh prior to the fluid bed was that of an insect screen.

  • @vtgoldprospector
    @vtgoldprospector 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @giffordmarine I saw a DIY fluid bed at goldhog.com for a quick and easy solution. So then while at the store this is what I came up with. I plan on showing the assembly process if enough people are interested. The only thing left is to try real paydirt to see what size gold it holds and if it can handle the real stuff. I am confident that it will since the sand is highly mobile while the bb's and iron filings are pretty much just sitting there at the bottom. (even when water is on full).

  • @giffordmarine
    @giffordmarine 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job, is this your design or is this an existing concentrator?
