Let's Get Making Stuff // "Small Batch Processing" Tips // 2023 Week in the Life
Hello again! I'm trying out a new series I'm calling "Let's Get Making Stuff" where I can share scrapbooking process videos + tips that I might want to share while working on my projects.
My goal is to keep working on overcoming perfectionism / imposter syndrome + just make stuff. Celebrate making progress, even if it's small. "Small progress is still progress."
In this video, I am working on my 2023 Week in the Life™ album and making progress! I started with the intention of going day by day, but found a few ways to do some batch processing and thought it might be fun to share.
Maybe call them "small batch processing" tips because it's not pressure to do the entire thing in a batch...it's just leveraging a little bit here and there to get the project rolling (or keep it rolling.)
I share some tips with taking / printing photos + the construction phase (I shared making paper pockets + stamping) + journaling / storytelling tips.
Somehow these few tips have filled almost an hour, and that is with a lot of editing! haha! Maybe next time I'll break these down into their own video. Just trying things out and seeing what / how I want to share my projects here.
Thanks for your support and I hope this might help you get started + make progress + finish your photo + scrapbooking projects too!

In this video I'm introducing a new series I want to try. My idea is to share what I'm working on each week in a way that celebrates being a work in progress. "From Where I Make Stuff" is basically me sharing what's on my table. Sharing projects I'm working on. Making progress not perfection. These won't be perfect start to finish process videos. Omg i thought I was the only one with unfinished projects lol…. I have 3 Halloween albums and 1 Christmas daily and random ones. Now I’m currently trying to finish my daily journal cause for 4 days I skipped and I hate some not finished. Im also wanting to know how to just focus on one project till it’s done. 😂
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
This Annette enjoyed your video!
You have definitely given me a nudge! Things are moving from my computer to the actual album. Little by little, but I'm doing it. Thank you for encouraging and rooting us on!
That is so awesome Amy!! Very exciting to hear that! Yes, I am totally leaning into the "small progress is still progress" idea and how it creates momentum to help us keep going. Thank you for sharing and I'm excited to hear more about your progress!
I either sew with my sewing machine ,or use redline tape.
Thank you Sue! Happy to hear I was on the right track! I'm curious if the redline tape I used was a bad batch or something. I was expecting it to hold better. Thank you for sharing what works for you! Appreciate it!
Love seeing your plan Annette! I am also planning to layer the transparent words on the dividers! I love the way that looks seeing it in your album! I can't wait to see this come together for you!
Thank you Steph!! Excited you are using the transparent words on the dividers too! They are so fun, right? Just love them. Excited to see your set up and project too!
I have the Epson Picturemate PM 400 printer (I think Ali uses this printer too). It is wonderful and I know I wouldn't get half as many photos in the pockets without it. Having a printer at home makes scrapbooking SO much easier. For reference, I find I can print approx. 100 4x6 prints per ink cartridge.
That's awesome! I agree..I was letting my frustration over my prints yellowing so fast keep me from making progress. (though I had not used Epson before.) These prints are beautiful and I'm just excited to be seeing the progress I'm making with it. Mine was about the same...around 100 prints and then I needed to change it. (just changed my first cartridge so hooray for getting photos printed and into projects!)
Wow, I get overwhelmed by looking at this. If you want to set yourself up for succes (aka living life and document it without quilt), I would start with re-thinking and prioritizing your projects. Your passion project, I would put on my list. And 1 or 2 projects for 2024. Otherwise, they will be another project to catch up on next year. Let go of what feels like a must. You can always tell those stories from the perspective of looking back. "You are not behind, if you are living in the present.- Emine Pala-Pazan"...
Thanks Emine! I agree with you for sure!! lol I almost didn't add any past projects to the list and did as I looked through them. Am trying out Junell's approach of working on whatever month/ project it is and then parts of that same month a year ago / past project while the motivation for that project is up. Kinda loving it. Also love the idea to focus on the passion project. That would also give me the photos to work on for the other projects, which has been a huge obstacle for me. "Let go of what feels like a must."....I love that. Thank you!! I've always said "Live life first" and keeping the memory keeping projects simpler will help me live my story first + be present. Love that so much. Thank you!
I’ve been looking for ways to use 4x4 prints. Looking forward to seeing what you do. Simple is great!
Thank you Linda! I found some page protectors on Scrapbook.com that have 4x4 pockets (Doodlebug design for 8x8 + the scrapbook.com ones for 12x12). In the past I've cut down the last column of the 12x12 ones to be able to use them in my 9x12 album. (I don't use 12x12 anymore but that could be a good option too.) I've been working on my photo workflow to get more of these 4x4 prints printed / boxes closed. It's definitely a work in progress! :)
I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video! You inspired me to make my own clipboard with an overview if what I want to accomplish in my memory keeping this year. Thank you!
Yay! That is awesome! I'm excited to hear that and wish you the best with your projects!
I’m sure I have crafting ADD. I get all excited about the different projects and jump from one to the other without actually finishing most of them 😂
I totally feel the same way!! Have so many past projects to tackle! I like Junell's approach and am trying it out for Week in the Life and loving it so far. (current month/season/project + tackle parts of the same month/project of last year). So far I'm really loving it!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much this video blessed me! I am excited to see your creations and how you tackle your projects (I am right there with you!) TFS 🤗
I'm so happy to see you on here again. I love all of your ideas. I need to decide what projects to tackle this year. I love them all! But I'll be moving soon and I've packed up a lot of my craft room. So it makes it challenging. I love that old school scrapbook. I'm going to order one. My kids also just like photos and words, but love that I craft for me. I'm going to follow your lead on embracing imperfection. Lifelong perfectionist/procrastinator here, so I need that push. Looking forward to your next video!
Thank you!! Same here...last year I just started stamping in a notebook as a way to "just make something" and it has helped me start getting out of my perfectionism. But it's definitely a work in progress and I truly believe the only way out is to love ourselves through it. Big hugs and thank you so much for your support! We got this!
and yay for embracing the old school scrapbook too!! I'm excited to hear how it is working for you!!
I ❤ my epson! I used to have same problem ordering prints. I told myself I couldn’t order Dec daily product unless I finished ‘23 dd, totally motivated me😅. Looking fwd to seeing more videos!☺️
Awesome!! Great to hear that the Epson works for you! I've definitely been loving it...totally so fun to see these photos printed "in real life" and it has definitely helped me make progress on these projects. And yes, I am in love with this year's Week in the Life release and told myself I had to make some solid progress on 2023 before I could order it...definitely helped motivate me! (hmmm...better get a plan in place b/c I know DD will be the same way!) :)
One of the things I do to keep myself from getting overwhelmed with the amount of backlog and unfinished projects is to be very systematic with how I tell my stories. I only scrapbook pictures from the month we’re currently in and then work backwards. So we’re in January 24 right now. I make sure I keep up with just this month then when there’s time I will work on January 2023, then January 2022, then January 2021… When February rolls around, I put my January stories away and work on Feb 2024, then Feb 2023, then Feb 2022… and on and on. This really keeps me from getting overwhelmed, keeps me enjoying the current season, and I know that if I don’t finish, these stories will roll around again next year!
Brilliant! I love this! Thank you so much for sharing! It does sound like it would capitalize on the "fun factor" of enjoying the seasonal aspect of our photos. And it gives you that unique perspective of looking back at the previous years too. Very cool. Thank you!!
Like this plan!
I love your backlog system! I've always wanted to do a then and now album. Maybe I can add that too, it's just another photo printed, right?
Popping in to say as I've been working on my 2023 WITL while it's "Week in the Life Season" has made me so happy and I'm giving myself permission to tackle this year while still working on last year. Similar to your approach and if this works I'm totally doing it again next year! (a past / unfinished year + this year). Love this plan! Thank you for sharing!!
What a treat to get such an indepth look at your December Daily albums! So glad I am not alone in the not-finished club too.
thank you! Nice to know I'm not alone...hoping to make more progress on these this year. Also working on embracing where I am and just starting again...again :) We got this!
Whaaaw ! So much inspiration, thank you!!
thank you!! excited to get working on this again!
Love seeing your albums in all their unfinished glory. It makes me feel so seen. My OLW for 2022 was finished so I worked really hard at completing DD albums that year. My 2010-2014 + 2018 albums are completely done, my 2015-2017 just need journaling but my 2019-2022 still look exactly like yours, miscellaneous foundation pages, some snippets of journaling and the odd photo here and there. I really do think finishing them is achievable with consistent effort and I love this project so much I’m just not ever going to settle for having them undone. Your style is so beautiful and I love how you explored all the different ways to create your albums. ❤
Thanks for sharing!
I love the green! They’re going to be so cute!🎄
Thank you!! I'm excited about it! Gonna attempt some stitching today!
So many amazing foundation pages and photos. Can’t wait to see them all come together!
Thank you!! Loved looking back and am making plans to work on them this year!
I just found you. Love your video style. Will be fun to follow along. what are the envelopes you have the contents in with the basket with your album? They look awesome.
Thank you!! Definitely a work in progress! :) Am working on some process videos and will hopefully be posting those soon and share another progress update this week! I have two kinds of folders/ envelopes I'm using right now: the white folders are from Russel + Hazel. I got mine from Target but it looks like there is a better price on Amazon: a.co/d/j2piC7l The clear ones I got from Amazon: a.co/d/8t6SH2q. Let me know if those are the ones you were looking for!
Thanks for all the inspiration! Do you have a link to this Amazon sleeves you use for organization of paper?
Thank you! Yes, I do! Happy to share! Amazon link: a.co/d/6JOhYrS
How absolutely awesome ❤ tfs your idea
Thank you so much!! Appreciate the support! Excited to get making more with these pages!
Your video was so fun and inspiring to watch. I don't typically do foundation pages, but this has really gotten me in the mood to give them a try. So excited for your TH-cam channel Annette!
Thank you Jessica!! I'm excited to check out your channel too!! Love all your work and designs! Fun to see different approaches and get inspiration from each other! Thanks again!! :)
Thanks for sharing. Loved watching your process .
Thank you! Loved putting these foundation pages together. Really hoping to make more progress this year! Thank you for watching!
LOVED seeing your albums and look forward to seeing more of them and more videos from you!! Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much!! Just cleared off my table and excited to get working on some pages! Thank you for your support!
So enjoying your videos. Love seeing what you're planning.
Thank you!! I'm finding it helpful! I tend to think I can do a lot more than I really can during the week. I'm curious to see how this works out!
Really enjoying following along Annette 😊
Thank you!! Excited to be sharing and hopefully making progress on these projects!
love having a peek into all your albums! So amazing and your style is so elegant in all the iterations! Thanks for so much inspiration!
Thank you so much!! I have so much to make progress on! So it's good I have a place to share it now! :) Seriously, thank you!! Your support means so much!
Loved seeing these. I loved seeing some of the older supplies that I recognized. You’re inspiring me to go through my old albums.
Thank you Janet!! So fun to use older supplies! I love shopping my stash to see what will complement the kit/theme I want to use each year. That's awesome you are going to look through your old albums too. What a gift they are!
Loved the hand-print idea.
Thank you! I love that hand-print too!
Love seeing the flip through. Your albums are so great and have so many beautiful memories.
Thank you!! I think that's what I love most about them. Just a collection of beautiful memories. Thank you!!
Sometimes I wanna make my albums very timeless because I am afraid they will Look „old“ and dated but whenever I see those albums from years back by other people I love them! I love that you can see that they are old,and see the taste we had back then. Amazing!
I say we as if I wasnt 13 in 2010 😂
haha!! I love this!! 13 is a great age to make a scrapbook!
I love how you reframed it. Makes my heart so happy to read that! Yes, they are old, but you are right...they hold so many stories, not just in the photos but the supplies too. Very cool. Thank you!!
I also feel that dilemma...I'm working on a solution that I think is going to work for me. Hope to share more soon as I make some progress on those projects too.
Excited to see whats to come!
So fun! I think keeping these albums is so important and ah! They just make me happy. I journal everything. I love the albums, but I'm a creative journaler. So it's similar but a little different. I'd love to try an album one day.
Thank you!!! I love your creative journals! Thank you for sharing! Would love to see what you create in an album too!
Great video! I am new to this project.. and was wondering what you use this book for? Is it a scrapbook alternative?
Thank you! The album I'm using is from Ali Edwards. aliedwards.com/shop/good-tidings-10x8-chipboard-album
The nice thing about these albums is that with the rings it is easier to add and move pages around, etc. Versus the more traditional post-bound albums. Is that what you are thinking of? Excited you are joining in!
If you haven't already gotten the class, the $5 prep day is great and it's coming up tomorrow! aliedwards.com/shop/classes/december-daily-2023-prep-day
and oh, wow! the "Storytelling with December Daily" class is 50% off right now! Great deal and will give you so so much inspiration and guidance. I love Ali's classes and this one is wonderful. aliedwards.com/shop/classes/storytelling-with-december-daily-self-paced
I love seeing old albums. They are fascinating time capsules.
Thank you! I loved looking through them. They sparked so many memories. Love thinking of them as time capsules too. Maybe that's why I like the little envelopes and other places to stash the "stuff of life" as a way of making it more of a time capsule. Thank you for sharing that!
I loved the Video! The quality is amazing and your ideas are great as always!
Thank you!! Definitely a work in progress! Excited to be on this journey and I love that it's inspiring me to make progress on my projects! Thank you!
Annette!! This is a FABULOUS start!! I feel so inspired by what you’ve shared in your foundation pages! I have so many questions…what are those pocket / page protector organizer things you’re using to hold supplies in place in your album? And where can I get the 4x4 pocket pages? I do have some old BH I can probably cut down, but definitely interested in that size! Thanks so much! Would love to see some walkthrough videos of previous years’ DD albums! Love that you have a TH-cam channel now!!🎉❤
Thank you Steph!!! I've had "Start a TH-cam Channel" on my list for I don't even know how long now. Just feels so good to get started. And thank you!! Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration! I love your videos and am so thankful to you for sharing all you do! I've been doing a fall reset / reorganization this week, so most of my albums are currently on my desk...hmmm...maybe I will do a video of those! The 4x4 pockets are from Doodlebug Design at Scrapbook.com (I need to get the ability to add links but can send them on IG). They load to the inside, so it's different but I like them! You will have to repunch the holes to add to Ali's albums, but they work! I used them in my Week in the Life. I didn't have any on hand but I did have some extra of the 4x4 pocket pages (originally 12x12) that I cut down to work. If the link works here it is: www.scrapbook.com/store/db-3500.html
And the document file folders are from Amazon! JIKIOU 30 Pack Clear Document Folder Copy Safe Project Pocket L-Type Clear Plastic Folder A4/ Letter Size in Transparent Color(Upgraded Size). a.co/d/i6AuIT3 They are so great to contain supplies you want and not have to use as many paperclips that might bend/warp the papers. And useful for regular home paper organization :)
I love the idea of using index cards to record story + design ideas and storing them in a little box to pull from. Thanks for sharing!
oh I'm excited you like those too! I started using index cards instead of having post it notes everywhere and I love them! I like the blank / unruled ones. (I get the 100 pack for 75 cents from Target.) I have some notebooks I like to sketch ideas and pages in, but I also love the index cards because it's easy to slip in a pocket or attach to the page, etc. I have had those IKEA boxes (called Dragan) for a long time after Ali shared how she used them in her organizing video. I keep repurposing them for different uses...they are great! (but a cute Christmas tin would also be really fun!)
This helps me a lot. First year for me!
I'm so happy to hear that! Excited you are joining in! It's such a great project and a wonderful + encouraging community. Have fun and enjoy it!!
Thank you for the great ideas! Looking forward to more videos!
thank you so much!! excited to make more! Appreciate the support!
This is such a fun starting point! Love the little booklet to start the album. So many great ideas!
Thank you!! I like how it reminds me of a Little Golden book! Just so excited to open that up to write in my day's story. Funny how a little thing like that feels so motivating!
I love seeing your setup Annette, please keep posting videos.
Thank you so much!! I'm excited to make more! Have lots of ideas...just gotta make it happen! Thank you again!!
Love this, really looking forward to seeing more ☺️
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Beth!! 😍
