Recorded near front left wheel well where the ticking sounds a lot louder than recorded from engine bay (ticking sound comes on instantly when not coldstarted, with cold start it takes around 30-40 seconds).

The ticking sound comes on gradually, you can notice the difference at 0:40 (starts getting worse from 0:45) and 0:55 filmed at wheel well. When firing the car up again the loud ticking is instantly there. When started again after a long delay there is no ticking at first.

Hey! I'm having the exact same noise starting on my 2016 SQ5 ( 100K miles). The noise does not happen until the car is warmed up, but it sounds the exact same and my noise is also coming from the front bottom left corner of the engine. Ever figure out what it was?!?! I was thinking maybe AC Compressor, or is it waterpump? I originally though maybe chains but doesn't seem to be it.

Did anyone else wonder that the noise is only there when the thermostat is closed making me think if it was chain noise it would be there all the time and if you leave the car for 3 hours enough time for oil to drop down but not enough time for the engine to cool down the noise only runs a sort time as the thermostat opens quickly and if you look at your temperature gauge as soon as the needle moves the noise stops so I think its water pump or thermostat done some reading and found a guy that noticed the same and changed both noise gone I wonder if the guy that put this video up changed them when doing the chains I think he would as it was down that far and maybe fixed it in the process

@@DJSHUJ did my search since I have the same ticking noise on my 2012 s4 and it says that it is either the upper chain guides, or two oil check valves under the supercharger that went bad, or the fuel injector. None of those issues are dangerous for the engine except for the low oil level which probably mean you should change your PCV valve and check for vaccum leaks, some folks told me there engine had that sound for a 100 000 miles since new and the dealer said it is normal, so I would not worry about this

I've read that if its between 1 and 3 seconds it isn't anything to worry about, but I can hear it for a split second from your engine too.
