Hi Guys I've been repeating the lowercase letter a in copperplate, just thought I would share it with you. I also found out while practicing the letters over and over how to produce it every time perfectly. I'll see you next time for a side of b's. Thanks for watching.

It's book is great, also if you are interested to know miss Barbara Nicol has a YT channel De lux pen.
@@simpleTheGuy yes the book has helped me improve my handwriting leaps and bounds. Yes I’m following that channel the moment I had the book ordered, watching Barbara give demonstrations on the line of beauty was brilliant.
Where are you from buddy? You pronounce H like people from Southern part of India. And yes, beautiful handwriting.
@@Niirbhay from the UK the north Staffordshire and thanks for your kind comments. I’m much better than that now and hope to showcase it later. 👋
I bet if you re-tried these using a Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen you would have better luck with the transition from thick to really thin lines.😉 Ok--you just switched to a different pen which gave you a better outcome. 😀
I've just now seen the video you made a year ago and I can say you've made massive improvements to your handwriting. I'm inspired to improve my handwriting as well.

Merry Christmas, Will. Excellent work this past year. Looking forward to what you've got lined up in 2025.
@@SwynnertonPictures thanks bro that means a lot. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and family.
Enjoyed video found it interesting and informative thank you for showing us your creative process. I was wondering what is the spiral books title and author? Thank you.✍📒
@@nattyw495 hi and thanks for watching, yes it’s The Calligraphers Bible by David Harris highly recommended a must have.
I was wondering what is the name of this spiral hardcover book? Thank you for showing us your process it was interesting and informative. I'm just getting back into this art form so i need alot of practice which is okay as its enjoyable.
Why do you mispronounce “uncial” so badly? First, the “i” is AFTER the “c.” And the “c” is not a /k/ sound. The word i pronounced “UHNT-seeyuhl.” You’d think someone as schooled as you are in calligraphy would know this
@@danielhughes441 yes you’re right and in later videos I put that right, thanks for commenting. It’s hard sometimes to pronounce words for me because I’m dyslexic but working on it.
Why do u like doing this?
@@6.6.6.i TH-cam is a vblog service and I like sharing what I’m into. Copperplate is beautiful and elegant the way the letters dance on the page just gets me.
@williambanks8914 Wow, that's awesome actually.. and u are really good at it..I hope you don't give up on this channel :P
Hi William, nice review! I have a question: is it possible to draw/sketching on it using a fountain pen?
@@Luca-rt8jm yes it works a dream. I’ve used waterman Paris blue ink in a fountain pen and no feathering or blobs. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@williambanks8914 Thank you very much! Tomorrow I'll try the Platinum Carbon Ink with the Platinum Preppy Fine and Extra Fine nibs, hope it works well too
mesmerising to watch you practise so diligently! such elegance!
New subscriber! With stub/calligraphy nibs, you need to keep both tines on the paper, so no, you can’t write on the corner of the nib. You can change the angle of the nib to achieve the line widths you want, as long as both tines are on the paper. What you might want for what you are trying to do is a flex nib. With flex nibs, you get the change in line width by applying more or less pressure. You don’t want to apply too much pressure, and you need to go slower. They take a lot of practice. The capping mechanism on this pen is interesting. I’m tempted to get one. Thanks for the video!
@@pensane with lots of practice with all sorts of pens the only one I know of is the Pilot pens, they can create lines from the corner. But are they classed as nibs? I’m saying yes. Thanks for the comment and great advice I really appreciate your input.
Fantastic
I have already ordered the HTML, CSS book and the JS & Jquery book, without knowing how old the books were. I am brand new to coding, but since they are already coming I'll see how much I can get out of them.
@@MrAnperm I use them mainly as reference guides and helpful tutorials on how to do stuff. Great books in my view and glad you’ve got some coming. Good luck.
good stuff
thank you this makes more sense & glad I’m not the only one struggling.. I re-found after sitting in a draw for a while 😂 I was thinking about putting the second bit under a raised drawing board so the magnets work together & stop the tool from moving..?
@@angelazair5946 I don’t know if that would work but now I’m just using the blue tac method more and more. Also just holding it with my finger works just as well. Funny enough I’m thinking of using this tool to produce monograms with.
Dear William, does the cursive alphabet is different in The UK from USA or even among various States of America? I read a book years ago, it said ''H'', ''K'' and ''A'' ... are different in schools of some States...
@@WorldofLines1 I think they mean the same but USA pronounce some items and phases differently to the world. Uk say chips you say fries. 🍟
@williambanks8914 thanks a lot. Same ppl, same roots, but English and American are two different languages with the same written alphabets😂 They are separating their language from English language as the time passes...
thanks for sharing .... Nice hand writing .
Nice mate! 🎉
I love the finished product! I will try it out on a present this year
Wrapping paper, it's wrapping, unless of course your paper is Eminem, then rapping paper would be fine!
@@mj-lp5eb of course it is, I suffer from dyslexia and spelling disorders. Thanks for the point out.
@@williambanks8914 I hope you didn't take that rudely!
@ not at all buddy I sometimes when making the vids forget how to spell, I will leave it as it is.
My recommendations if writing smaller is hard: - Embrace the size; double-space your lines. Even good paper is cheap, and broad nibs are fun. - Slant your writing slightly more. Italic writing allowed closer lines and that still applies. Make sure to adjust your paper so that the angle stays consistent across the page. - Find wider ruled paper, especially if you have bad eyes. It will be easier to write and easier to read back. You can use blank paper and print your own line-guide, there are many online.
the atrocious pronunciation made my eye twitch a bit. but good review none-the-less.
Very pretty! Love the intricate swirls! <3

@@Hero303YT I like the idea but the channel I’m trying to keep it neutral and I’ve had this name since creating the channel. Glad you are watching my vids and thanks for the comment.
The line gap for this script looks perfect. You can test other pen-friendly inks in a Parallel pen e.g. Dr. Martin's Star Black.
I've just come across this video, two years after buying this gadget and not knowing what to do with it! I spent half an hour or so then put it in a drawer in my art room. Today I have had a clear out and was going to chuck it in the bin and then remembered youtube might just have a how to video. Well, it all seems rather easy now and I feel a bit silly 😊 I got it when I was drawing zentangles, might go back to that now I can do circles lol. Thanks William, I'll be able to spend a few hours doodling the afternoon away, ignoring the awfully dreich day it has turned into 😊 all the best from Scotland ❤
A page filled with rotunda script looks very good. A nice dense block of text. Good job!
Bloody marvellous 😊
What’s the book on 3:44?
@@kontakis65 hi thanks for watching and the book is Calligraphy by Jane Sullivan highly recommended. Hope that helps.
Your calligraphy videos are quite enjoyable. Don't give up on those William Mitchell nibs. They are very good once you get used to their flexibility and, personally, I prefer using them without the reservoir.
@@madwolf there’s a secret to using them but for the life of me I can’t find it. I will try another time off camera and hopefully get it. Thanks for watching.
@@williambanks8914 try a cursive script, they are made for it, hence their flexibility. I forgot to mention that detail. And yes, I will continue watching your channel. I'm enjoying it very much. Saludos.
Well done mate. I suggest you take the bits and letters you find easiest from across the different styles, finding what best suits you and make them your own. There's a lot to be said to writing in a normal cursive hand but adding a few flourishes with fancy capitals and a few fancy loops on your 'g' and 'y's and crosses on tour 't's. Learn to give each letter a finishing foot/flick at the end automatically, I find this helps with the beginning of the next letter. Try and get a rhythm as you write each word, the letters tend to be more even then. Xxx
@@oz25 that is the goal here. To create a copperplate style writing hand, with a few others chucked in for good measure. That’s why I’m practicing the letters for videos and trying the different styles of copperplate scripts. Glad you dig it man.
Truely, enjoyed it while practicing on my own as well. Thank you, Looking forward to the series

Copperplate ratios are 2:1:2, not 1:1:1. In other words, the areas you marked as "A" and "D" should be twice as tall as your x-height. Hope this helps.
@@raminmoheb6504 yes it is and thanks for commenting. I’ve seen other people use the 1:1:1 and once I gave it a try it seemed easier to adapt to standard writing paper without the fuss. Plus the copperplate does keep its charm being beautiful. My goal here is to practice copperplate for its own style and hand write in the style. Hope you enjoyed the video.

@@williambanks8914 Only do it if you have to and can bear the long uploads!! From 12:11 onwards it's fine (pardon the pun) for me.
The lowercase r is very much like an American cursive r. I have seen one other TH-camr do the same”nu” for a w. I would change that too. Not sure how a thick upstroke can be done. Digital artistic license I think. Looks daft anyway.
@@juicylouisey yeah some letters look similar and as we write them I can only say we are in charge and decide what we write down. As for the thick upstroke it’s impossible to achieve in one stroke upwards. I will research the American r but my eyes says the same looks daft. Thanks for watching.
