Great Mrs Thatcher. Her government should have gone further and abolished unions.
Red Robbo was an incompetent manager and should never have sat making business decisions and the labour government, as usual, were useless at running corporations.
Derek Robinson almost singlehandedly brought British Leyland to it's knees. Did he have the best interests of his fellow workers at heart? Maybe. Did his pathological antipathy towards management, particularly Sir Michael Edwardes, do more harm than good? Absolutely. Because of Mr Robinson, the Trade Unions were neutered to the point of uselessness, and neither the workers or the industries benefited from that.
Similar to "blues and twos" on ITV this series is!.
I came from exactly this background (Scottish coal industry - for eight generations). The communist union scum were a curse on the average working man and destroyed the entire industry - as they always do in every industry that is burdened with them.
The loonies are back again to finish off capitalism for good and have their one party totalitarian regime where we are all broke and they the ruling class are hugely rich. Red Robbo is dead but for each Robbo ten have replaced him but there is no industry left to destroy but plenty of retail, hospitality and the housing market when they seize your home and then charge you huge rents
The Spanish, French and Germans couldn't destroy us. We beat them all. Then we destroyed our own industry. Then we destroyed our country itself; by letting everyone in. We gave it all away, mates.
11:48 yes he’s been caught red handed
12:05 the driver who made off in that Mazda was caught 5 days later and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving driving whilst disqualified and was sentenced to 5 and a half months in prison and was given a 4 year ban from driving in order to redo his driving test before he gets his licence back
Pc fletcher talked a great drive but not really up to the job
Wasn't the ferrari the personal car of a police officer and used to stage this for the TV show? It was all over the news.
KGB 3 British Industry 0
How to ruin a countries industry.
So what killed British indstry? You did you daft wombles.
The TVTU maybe we’ll trained, however the people that they chase are usually not trained so the police go faster and the stolen vehicle goes faster and that driver is now driving over his limits, which puts innocent members of the public are now at risk, but for the ego of the police to demonstrate their manhood in driving, people die or receive life changing injuries, why the car’s insured. I know of a very small device made in Israel which can fry a ECU at 75mts this is butter than removing the wheels of a stolen vehicle. No death’s or critical injuries, which mainly are caused by the police.
clarkson cant fit in one ,hammond cant reach the peddals and may cant drive .

Back to the Future - 1974-79 to 2024-29 ? The same as what we are facing now after a weak Tory and now another incompetent Labour government. Do you want to save our culture and history? BBC would not make a documentary like this now.
a few observations, the pay increase mentioned was framed around the percentage increase being excessive. 96 gbp a week is around 627 gbp in today's money, that's a little over 30k a year. that's below both the median and mean incomes for the uk in 2024. their pay before the increase (65 gbp) was also below the national avg for the uk in 1976 from what i can find, which was 72 gbp per week. by every available metric these workers were underpaid.
That is one of the best adverts I've ever seen.. so classy
Vehicle abandoned in coronation street ,out comes ken barlow and les battersby to save the day

A man of principles but he cost us our motor industry
These were the golden 70s
Amazing how Land Rover remains a class leader, year after year of record sales.
They followed the motorcycle industry down the drain I hope they are satisfied .
This fucker and the unions helped killed BL, and then MG Rover. Short term gain. The unions fucked up the car industry, coal, ship building.and steel. They are now fucking the NHS.
Disqualified, speeding, 5k cash, big bag of powder. How stupid can you be... Deserve everything you get
ve just had a call from Elsie Jowetts son, i am the proud relative of the Jowett family & am currently looking at joining the jowett car club. At the moment i cannot say more, but i hope to be able to help him learn all about a family that we never knew existed until i went through my late mothers belongings and found all the proof & things we have!! Hopefully this will be interesting to all Jowett fans! Or maybe not lol!
1980s TV producers: "Shall we make sure the car is at least clean before we point a camera at it? Y'know, because Ford might want it to look its best for potential buyers?" "Nah, fuck it! Drive it through rain-soaked pig farm before hand."
Back in the days when men were men and women still women. Cars were not so obese and looked pretty cool and were affordable!
What a wally 😊
BBC Bashing the Working Class nothing New. 🥺🟥💪
To moaning Mary’s in comments see Mick Lynch🟥👍🏻 put that in your pipe and smoke it 😂
Mick Lunch is a total muppet. The trains are going the same way.
@@Optical747 Proof ⁉️🟥💪
@@bolshevikproductions The trains are becoming increasingly internet based and automated, most people have tickets on their phones now for instance, and driverless trains are going to become more prevalent as they are in the east. Before long we will be seeing Lynch and his sorry gang in the queue at the job centre or out begging in the precincts.
@@Optical747 Idiot. Staff need to run all aspects of railway infrastructure. Not AI
@@Optical747 your phone doesn’t repair rail or ballast needed for trains.
For all you billionaires complaining. Go take a look a genius Mick Lynch, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union 🟥👍🏻💪
The Working Class create Everything. No money or profit without wage slaves / workers
Werent just the workers that went on strike the cars did too least with all the strikes less of the shit heaps ended up on the roads
We maintain, within the terms of the present agreement, notwithstanding, hereby and forthwith, we maintain. I was an apprentice at Longbridge from 74 to 77. I learned nothing, apart from the intimidating behaviour of shop stewards and Robbo who thought us green overalled apprentices were company spies. Oh, I learned how you could accidentally render a spot welder unserviceable so that production had to stop. Our main thoughts were on how to get discarded unmachined cylinder heads out through the gates.
Durr !!! my dad used house them coz he worked for the local council, now I house them behind bars , whoopee. I don’t go out of Salford coz I’m lazy, how boring
The comunist party achieved exactly what it set out to, the destruction of another British company and further decline in a western countries forutnes. The workers were, as always with the left, expendible and the management uninspired and useless, I lived thbrough these times and the outfall of closed companies and failed businesses was devistating to local communities.
Interesting documentary. Thank you for uploading. I guess Germany is heading at the moment in the same direction. History repeats itself, regardless where.
At the time Leyland worker were "earning" more than workers in other industries in the Midlands. So, those other workers, who were not striking every other week, were paying tax to give pay rises to the Leyland workers who were often on strike. Crazy times.
We need UNIONS more than ever, Run Properly and Accountable.
That’s nothing, i had to try and keep a bloody Marina van on the road, utter shite!!
God bless everyone ❤💯🙏💯❤️
The beginning was how a sapph should be driven Excellent video 😊
