I think the way they handled this conversation is dated, we now know that often when black men do get help their care is subpar to that of that their white counterparts. Only 4% of psychiatrist are black, which may lead black men to not feel safe to go those spaces. Increased enrollment for black psychiatrist and restructuring of how black men are handled in psychiatry is a start.

I don’t think that seeking help actually helps a lot of the time. I am not a man, but had brutal postpartum depression and the therapists DID NOT help me. Friends and family were sh!tty and dismissive. “Oh it’s just hormones, it’s just this or that.” Imagine how much worse that probably is for men? The stiff upper lip ethic. Your pain doesn’t matter or isn’t that real is just our cultural ethos, even if you do seek help.

Once we step away from society standards, we'll be better off. We have to go within and goes with what works best for us as individuals. Also, there is a lot of trauma that's keeping us a part as a group. As a black woman, I can support and love my man, but he may not have the strength to open up and be vulnerable enough to take that help. No matter what that help looks like.

There are several solutions for depression that do not involve medication. Here are some options: Psychotherapy: Talk therapy with a trained mental health professional can help you identify and address the underlying causes of your depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that is particularly effective for depression. Exercise: Regular physical activity, such as walking, jogging, or yoga, has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression. Mindfulness meditation: Practicing mindfulness meditation has been shown to improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression. Social support: Connecting with friends and family, joining a support group, or volunteering can help you feel less isolated and improve your mood. Nutrition: Eating a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression. Sleep hygiene: Getting enough sleep and establishing a consistent sleep routine can help improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression. It's important to note that these solutions may not work for everyone, and in some cases, medication may be necessary to effectively manage depression. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it's important to talk to a healthcare provider or mental health professional to determine the best course of treatment for you.

  • @adewdew6019

Depression can manifest in different ways, and symptoms can vary from person to person. However, some common signs and symptoms of depression include: Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness Loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable Fatigue or lack of energy Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, or making decisions Changes in appetite or weight Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or oversleeping Irritability or restlessness Feelings of worthlessness or guilt Thoughts of death or suicide If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to talk to a healthcare provider or mental health professional. They can help you determine if you are experiencing depression and provide appropriate treatment options. Depression is a treatable condition, and seeking help is an important step towards recovery.
