*If I could do this over I would have chose a different color. This was the OEM color but since it was metallic it didn't match very well. I was still pleased with the results but I would have liked it to blended better. *Non-metallic shades are much easier to match.

    I installed one of these Televes antennas in a hilly region and had to point it thru trees. It’s working great. I did need to minimize the length of coaxial cable and connectors between the antenna and amplifier, but it worked great even with the hills and trees. I would rather not have the trees in the way, but it’s working so I’ll take it.

    By mounting the SPD at the bottom of the breaker stack you are defeating the purpose of the SPD. If using a breaker it needs to be installed in the top left or right side breaker position (move breakers) to protect the circuits below. If the top two breakers are the proper amp/size and rated for dual connections (will be noted on side of breaker) you can use it instead of adding a dedicated breaker. Best way to install the SPD is to put ring connectors on the black wires and mount them to the L1 and L2 studs directly below the Main as seen at 3:37 on your video. No breaker needed. No need to move any breakers. Pop a hole either side of box with your step drill in line with L1/L2 for shortest wire run.

    on the last purple connector, it looks like you stuck a black and a white wire in the same connector at 11,50 in the video, but at 14,53 it shows all blacks and all whites as it should be, so whats up with that?

    The Breaker feeding the SPD should be installed immediately after the Main breaker. That would surge events are captured prior to entering downstream circuits. Where you have installed it (At the very bottom of panel) means that the surge will enter the homes branch circuits before it enters the SPD. I hope that makes sense.

    that's a fantastic antenna. I ran one for a while in my attic. space was kinda cramped and I was struggling to figure out how to pull in all the 4 majors in my area, so I ended up selling it. Now that I have figured everything out, I wish I still had it, although I'm confident the smaller Ellipse would work very well. Televes is a Spanish company, and a very good one. Cheers!!

    You used a 7/16 inch end wrench on the hardware. That means that the fasteners are 1/4-20 (not 1/2 inch). Did you consider running the coax down the inside if the pole rather than using standoffs ?

  • @gr8dvd
    @gr8dvd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Had exact same old antenna (10’ x 7’) replaced with much smaller Televes Ellipse (~ 3’ x 3’). Receiving a few more channels but (so far) no pixelation on any channel even in bad weather… heavy rain, wet white-out snow (caked antenna), and moderate wind (20-25 mph). No high wind as yet to report (not complaining tho) 😀

    Little tip on a shingle roof - if you’re going to drill multiple holes to find the rafters, lift a leaf of a shingle up and make your holes under that, so you can just “glue” the shingle back down with tar after.

    Well done video. A couple years ago I used Alumniconn connectors in a house built in 1964 just outside of Charlotte NC , with some copper wiring, and some aluminum, electrical service was a FPE 100 amp fuse panel consisting of the main fuse block, two smaller blocks for the range and dryer, and 8 edison base fuses for the 120 volt circuits. Upgraded the panel to a 200 amp Siemens panel using a 100 amp main breaker with AFCI and dual function breakers for the locations needing GFCI protection. The new owners of the house didn't have the funds to upgrade to 200 amps at the time but wanted a 200 amp panel so they could upgrade and add in things later on if and when they decide to.

    I learned the hard way on my install. I bought the exact same box for my install. Got everything nice and neat and failed inspection because my box didn't have a lever bypass which unbeknownst to me has been mandatory on new installs for about a year and a half now. Lesson learned. Check your codes.

  • @robertm5969

    This is what I want to do! 1 Get out all the blown in fiberglass 2 air seal 3 add faced fiberglass batts between depth of ceiling joists (R13) 4 plywood cat walk over batts 5 secure wire runs out of the way in attic, add j boxes where necessary to extend wire lengths 6 add more unfaced batts (R36) perpendicular to first layer to get to R48 Very impractical to turn our attic into a finished space. Attic joists are 2x4 trusses pressed with gusset plates and not meant to support much weight. Roof pitch is shallow. But I do want to be able to crawl around up there comfortably to work on air handler, duct runs, and install bathroom exhausts.

      Good luck with that it sounds like a pretty good plan!! I 😊 would always try to use OSB board. It's durable but also more resistant to temporary moisture.

  • @srpchannel0169
    @srpchannel0169 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well said and thanks for your input! I think aluminum's amount of expansion is probably the most damaging thing. Do you come across it often?

  • @Sparky-ww5re
    @Sparky-ww5re ปีที่แล้ว

    Great work and getting things working again. I personally would not have a problem buying a house with aluminum wiring if the price was right, even with a thorough home inspection, being a journeyman myself I would go through every device and every junction to make certain the proper terminations were made, and correct any deficiencies. Because single strand aluminum wiring was only used for a brief period between about 1965 to 1973 give or take a few years due to the severe copper shortages combined with the post war housing boom causing copper to be very expensive if not impossible to obtain, it's very common and unfortunate to see copper and aluminum spliced together with standard wire nuts, and for those unaware, copper and aluminum are dissimilar metals and can undergo galvanic corrosion when in direct contact and moisture is present, aluminum also expands and contracts 2 to 3 times that of copper with changes in temperature. The Alumniconn connectors are my preferred weapon of choice when it comes to repairs because it keeps the two different wires from physical contact while coating them with antioxidant, eliminating the undesirable properties of aluminum wiring.

  • @srpchannel0169
    @srpchannel0169 ปีที่แล้ว

    I added a link to those wire nuts.

  • @srpchannel0169
    @srpchannel0169 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I agree using the Leviton Colar receptacles if you have enough wire works best. I assumed that's what you use that's I believe the only one made 😊 The ideal 65 wire nut cost a little more, about $5 a wire nut, but I think they're worth it. Thanks for your feedback! I'm going to try to do more extensive aluminum videos. Probably about half my work is an electrician is with aluminum. It can be almost as safe as copper it's just not as forgiving if you don't play by its rules😊. Thanks!

    I sure wish these existed when we lived in our last house, a Levitt and Sons Rancher in Maryland. Dealing with that old aluminum wiring was a pain. I replaced with CO/ALR units where possible. When a pigtail was unavoidable, I did follow instructions and used the "goo" in the nut.
