Good video. What I don't like is the fuel shut off also kills the motor. You might not agree but the best way to store these long term is an ethanol treatment, some type of stabilizer is good , but the key is to run the carb dry.

I'm waiting on more people to start showing update videos on these mini splits working in the winter on the heat part

Carburetor cleaner will melt the fuel line and other rubber parts and should never be sprayed in a fuel tank

(second comment) Been running one for a while on house natural gas (electric start) - no problems with that function but just a couple of things to note 1. The big red light quit working indicating operating on natural gas or propane 2. The electric start isn't "confidence inspiring" lol , no good strong continuous crank - it hits it for a second or two and then nothing for a few seconds, then it cranks again for a second or two then nothing for a few seconds - it finally DOES start - just hope it keeps working I don't want to be pulling the cord on this thing lol

I've got the Firman W01781. Works great when it worked. Didn't run it for 3 months and it wouldn't start. There is no way to remove the main jet in the carburetor to get the emulsion tube out to clean it. I had the carb off 3 times now last time drained the gas tank and the carb and then sprayed carb cleaner til it came out the drain line. Let that sit overnight. put gas in it started it up and I've got a new generator again. Wish I knew you couldn't get the main jet out I wouldn't have bought it pain in the butt expensive cheap unit

Here in South Africa containers for diesel are Yellow in color. Red or Green for Petrol.

I was wondering the same thing. The test in the video would equal to about 14.5% efficiency, which isn't great even for a small generator, they're usually capable of 20-25%. I have the MXR3500S which is essentially the exact same generator. Under low idle it runs at 3,200 rpm and standard mode 3,800 rpm, which was a little concerning to me because a conventional generator would run at 3,000 rpm continuously (here in Europe, in the U.S. it would be 3.6k). It does have the benefit of being a relatively small displacement engine, though, so less friction and what not. I love it for its size and convenience but also want to get as much out of the limited fuel you'll have available if you were to find yourself in an emergency. Amazing test and video, very informative!

It really doesn't matter who's name is on the outside, nor which company markets it, the only thing that matters is who makes it. Dinking corp make over 500,000 generators a year sold in 100 different companies under all sorts of brand names and they do produce IMO quality products which are certainly not "Chinese junk" . The thing that differentiates the various "makes" of generators is warranty and parts availability. It goes from non existent to top quality (like Champion). IMO, although I own 9 generators including one Honda, I don't feel that making the choice to buy Chinese presents the risk it used to present, given the quality of products coming out of China.

I gambled on one lol - tri-fuel and electric start - had to run it on house natural gas full time for four days, running a few things - seemingly no problems. Just be sure you refill oil at 600 ml like the manual says and not 450 like what my generator plate says. And for a gas "quick connect" you need to buy "Propane Brass Quick Connect Fitting Adapter Female Plug x 3/8' NPT" (I think the manual incorrectly says 5/8). Except for no eco mode, pretty much happy with it so far.

An additional step that might be of help is after putting in some fresh gas, drain the carb a second time. Even let it drain until you smell clean gas. This should help get both the diesel left in the carb, and also what was left in the bottom of the tank.

Potentially dumb question: did you have to rewire anything for the fan? Looks like all of those are 12v vs the 120v RV AC

good news is diesel in gas rig does no damage, clean it up and good as new. put gas in a diesel and potential disaster. P.S. gas diesel mix isnt good to run in anything newer than late 60s. too many sensors so you did the right thing. (i have an old 6 cyl dodge pu that will run just about anything. lol)

I grabbed the wrong gas can by mistake. It was my stale diesel that I am just keeping around. Siphoned it out and drained the bowl. I was running again in ten minutes. The little bit of diesel in the tank did not affect the engine. In colder climates they used to add a bit of gas in the diesel for easier starting.

I grabbed two EVSEs off Amazon that support variable charge rates for my 2 PHEVs recently. They are amazingly dangerous if your circuit is not capable of their fastest charge rate (40A). The problem is if you plug them in to a 20A circuit and power is interupted then they default to their highest charge rate and happily will start a fire, assuming the breaker takes a bit to trip. Please test this on any EVSE you review. In my case it's not so bad because the PHEVs will only charge at 3.3kW (~14 amps) but they would not be safe to use in a few circumstances.

This is not a charger, its an EVSE. The charger is inside the car :P

There's days we wish we've never had crazy. I'd say removing the fuel then totally flushing everything things should be fine after running time to clear out

Hi there while I read that this video is a year old well it tells me you know something about generators and I so happen to know nothing, I have a question and hopefully you can help me, I have a firman generator and I ran it 3 times, it ran like a champ but today I started and it didn't start on choke ( start ) low I had to move the carburetor to full open ( run ) in order to get it going onec it starts cause it actually starts right away on full throttle it runs like it wants to choke and die, me and my wife started messing with it and I found a little bit of oil in the air ffilter. Any help how to fix something like that?

Tell your buddy to get more Propane and never try to run gas again. Your never gonna have an issue if run on Propane. At least a 15 year shelf life. I realize he probably had an emergency so the is in reference to the future. I have never seen one of these geny tanks that hadn't rusted out in 5 years.

I bought my first iGen2200 when I bought my fifth wheel in 2019. Still starts and runs perfectly after 5 years. I was so happy with it, I bought another one in 2021. If I'm going where the weather will be hot, I bring both and parallel them so I can use my a/c. The heck with those Honda snobs😁. Westinghouse works just as well as any of them.

I had a new Toyota vehicle and the service warranty ran out to I did my first oil change on it. Well..... I drained the transmission and over serviced the oil with 5 qts of oil. At first I couldn't understand why the transmission would slip after an oil change. Then, on the highway, the RPM's almost redlined and I couldn't go faster than 65 MPH. I pulled off the freeway and googled the problem. Then I realized what I had done. I called a friend to give my a ride to the Toyota dealership and get the right transmission fluid ($193). On the side of the road, using a flash light I serviced the transmission and drained the excess oil. The Toyota ran great after that. Took it on a 2,000 mile road trip a week later with no problems. Idiot mistakes happen and I'm a mechanic.

I was a volunteer fireman 45 years ago. Someone gassed up the only fire engine with diesel instead of gas. We made it to the house fire barely. The engine wouldn’t rev up enough to run the pump. The house burned down.

I have the same generator purchased from Costco. Cheap and very quiet. Unfortunately the little plastic covers over the plugs and outlets apparently don't like ozone and only lasted about a year stored covered in the garage.

You can run diesel fuel at 20% with gasoline it will work just fine the older generators with a high-speed fuel mixture screw you can run kerosene in it 100 then there's propane with a propane diaphragm carburetor adapter

The first time you add diesel fuel to a gas generator, hey it was a mistake. The second time that you do this, It is not a mistake, it is more like not paying attention. How do I prevent this? I have a yellow Diesel fuel can for my diesel car. For kerosene, I have the blue kerosene cans. For Propane, I use 20 lb and 30 lb propane bottles. And for gas which can go into the other car, generator, and lawn mower, I have red Gas cans. Everything is labeled and I have not mixed up the fuels in the past 13 years that I have had a diesel car.

If it's mostly diesel, you can mix it with heating oil to get rid of it.
