Finnegan Begin Again
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 พ.ย. 2019
The restoration of Finnegan, our 1939 Ford Standard Coupe. This is a project that I am doing with my three young sons.
How to install the brake lines.... commentary by Warren
Warren joins me in bending and installing the brake lines. The pedal assembly and master cylinder also get installed and the brake fittings threaded on before we bleed the system. Warren tries to explain the best he know how, and tries to spill family secrets.

How to install a rear leaf spring... or "How WE did it"
มุมมอง 2077 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode I hillbilly a way to install the rear leaf spring onto the rear axle of the 1939 Ford. It was NOT simple, like the front spring now appears to be. But through true determination, resourcefulness and safety stupidity, we got the job done! #johndeere #carproject #classiccars #autorestoration #oldschool #1939 #flathead #flatheadford #leafspring #classicford
How to assemble a Ford banjo rear end

มุมมอง 7168 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video we prep all the links that bind the 1939 front chassis suspension together! Along the way we realize that new bushings tend to be oversized so a bit of touch up is needed to make sure all the rotating parts can still rotate #autorestoration #1939 #carproject #classiccars #classicford #flathead #prewar #suspension

Nice help you have.
He’s giving it his best shot! We need to work on more substance rather than shock journalism.
Great video!
Thanks!
Lmao!!!!! That commentary is GREAT!
Isn’t he precious?!
The driveline needs pinned into the rear sleeve though doesnt it??
I’ve looked in the green book. The diagram appears to show the coupler getting pinned onto part 4209, the shaft of tue gear that turns the axles. I only see one pin hole in the coupler. My coupler was already pinned and I didn’t take it apart. When I disassembled the parts, the 4605 shaft wasn’t pinned in. With it sandwiched between the transmission and rear end, is another pin necessary? Have I missed a second pin? Uh oh
@finneganbeginagain1701 im not positive myself. I thought it was pinned on both ends, ive also always seen them assembled driveline, torque tube then transmission
I’ll show how to pack your bearings on our next visit.
I look forward to learning from the master!
Smeer that grease. Where were you when you started this episode?
Oh, I was at Bubba’s garage hammering that seal at the same time as seals in the rear drums
Oops. Don't forget the sleeve! Loving the progress! Crazy seeing how different it looks with some powder coat!
It’s pretty!!!! I love making him pretty!!!!
Thanks for sharing. Just rebuilt the rear end and installed it in my 1940 Ford. I installed my driveshaft first so I could install both pins in the driveshaft coupling, which connects the driveshaft to the pinion shaft. Then I slid the torque tube over the driveshaft.
Ummm…. sounds like I need to do some research and make sure I’m not screwed.
Really makes me appreciate my disk breaks!
Excited for the next one. Not sure what youtube is doing with my content right now. Can't believe I didn't see this until now!
Yeah, better and easier
A hockey puck! Interesting. Hard, effective and non marking! Also way to go calling your pops out kiddo! Hahaha
He had a good laugh
Woohoo!
I know it’s been a while, but I’m back on the video editing. Don’t worry, I’ve been busy on the car. I just need to catch up!
@finneganbeginagain1701 i figured! Love seeing the progress though. Hope youll be driving by the spring
Haha vice grips at the end! There ya go!
They had to make an appearance
New springs are tiiight. Vice grips work well if you dont have a brake drum tool
I’m very thankful for strong friends!
More good luck than good management, a home spring spreader is a cheap option 😊
There’s more to this story. Keep watching!
T1 Richardson! Happy Father’s Day
Thank you! And you too, if you are so lucky!
Definitely some very tense moments watching while y’all were using the tractor and Eric kept sneaking his hands and head underneath 😅
Well, if you sneak up on it, it won’t bite you! Right?
Janky spring video!!! Woohoo! 95% sure someone should have said hold my beer before using the tractor 🚜. Hahahaha.
It makes the bouncing Diggie look tame!
Too funny! I JUST uploaded my video om the EXACT same thkng a few hours ago! Great minds...
I’ll definitely watch to see how you did it!
Great job, first try! Not normal for the Richardson way!
Did I look like I knew what I was doing?!?!
LOL at so many parts. And drink Moxie.... LOL Impressed by how far Finnegan's come!
Just wait, Sir! You are in the next episode!
Hey at least your kid asks...mine just take their pants off willy nilly 😂😂
I love it when they hop out of the car and just pee into the flower garden. There is a toilet 15 feet away, but no! I can't wait until the baby opens the door without a diaper! He is a ninja at getting those off and it will make for some creative editing.
Im right there with you 😂 just about had mine assembled and in...then decided the ovaled bushing hole wouldnt fly so now its apart again and replacing a bell.... banjos
Oh no! Have you been able to find a good replacement?
@@finneganbeginagain1701 i have 3 rear ends worth of spare bells plus a few complete rear ends on hand
Ha! No worries then!
Hahahahahahaha love it! Great video!
Thanks! The kids certainly keep it interesting.
I remember those smells!
Any smells you associate with people?
Id bet its at least a complete chassis by now
Yes, but no engine start yet. That is next!
@@finneganbeginagain1701didn’t mean to reply…😂
I don’t get a lot of comments, so I didn’t think I’d be letting the cat out of the bag too soon.
@@finneganbeginagain1701 first start up is always fun!!! Huge moment!
Why did you use the paintbrush? God gave you fingers!!😂NOVEMBER!!! Are you driving the Is thing around now?? I absolutely love the progress!!
A brush gives the illusion of professionalism. Wait…. maybe greasy fingers is a better illusion. Next time.
Omg. Do not try this at home!!!
Nowhere else would allow this creativity!
That tie rod looked rough. does it still have longevity left in it? Why not replace it?
I thought about it, but it cleaned up very well. I also talked to some good ol’ hot rod builders and they said it looked good, just get new ends, which I have. Anyone reading, let me know your thoughts.
Sposed to ream new spindle bushings to sizr
Yeah, this process is teaching me many things! Sometimes with experiencing the negatives of my ignorance.
But it’s still fun!
@@finneganbeginagain1701 nobody expects you to know everything, you shouldnt either! Having fun is what its all about!
Coming together!
I thought all the engineers would like the exploded drawing view of a pre-war Ford.
One step closer!
Every step back to completion is SO gratifying!
I’m getting a theme that reassembly takes a lot of lubrication and mechanical agitation.
Yes, some natural, some dinosaur based!
Video quality was the best on this one. My nephews are naturals!
Well, natural actors! We will work on the camera skills.
Nice!
I think the blacksmithing was the highlight
'Promo sm'
Is that a color?
Do a contrast color on the drums. Allows you to pull hubcaps and have a really neat look!
I like that idea. Bronze is really big for wheels right now. What do you think?
My kids love your intro
Thanks! That’s my wife in piano and kids singing. We might have to redo it when baby boy is singing.
@@finneganbeginagain1701 i could tell, its great!
I’m thinking paint the brake the same colour as the wheels, if you’re going to use aluminum wheels, then paint the drums silver, red rims… red drums and so on! Remember it’s personal, so whatever tickles your fancy! Ask the kids to vote for it! As for body colour , or lack of it….John Deere tractor black!
Good idea about the boys voting! I’ll show them what is available in high-temp paint and let them pick! They will probably not agree on a color, so there will be 4 different colors.
Omg. That was great. What color is the body going to be? OSU orange. You wont do it! 😊
Not orange on the outside. He will be Dartmouth Green, one of the original colors available. But the brake drums won’t be seen with the hubcaps on, so they can be any color! Except pink.
Did you invert the bolt?? You seem to have hit a pretty big mile stone here!! That wad fun to watch! Thanks Diggy and Finnegan crew!
I did. I’m not sure if it was necessary, but the potential for an interference made me pucker.
Will all that grease on the outside of the gears mess with the transmission fluid? Loved the video! This is fascinating!
No, it is specifically made for initial transmission assembly. I’m guessing that means it will play well with the trans fluid.
For the runtime lubrication, there are holes/channels within the gears carrying the oil to the bearing and the rest of the stuff inside of the gears (as the teeth pick up the oil, it flows inside; visible on the 2'nd gear at 24:37). The grease is to be used there to hold the things together so it won't fall apart so easily and/or won't be jamming during assembly. Then it gets just washed out and diluted by the oil so it does not do anything anymore
Well said, and thank you for pointing out the oil access holes! It makes sense that the original engineers would have a path for oil to get everywhere.
Woohoo!!! That was very enjoyable to watch. I would have been so flustered by the dang confined space.
Yeah, just keep breathing and chanting ‘Serenity Now!!!’
Small, greasy hands! Great video!
Yeah, sometimes they come in... handy.
Thanks for the videos. What oil will you be using in the transmission and rear end.
Thanks for watching! I’ll be using Sta-Lube SAE 140 GL-4 gear oil. GL-4 won’t destroy the brass/bronze ‘yellow’ metals in the transmission.
10000 views n your channel! Congrats!🎉
Really? I wonder if that gets me a sticker.
@@finneganbeginagain1701 probably just a warm and fuzzy feeling
Oh, yes! I’m all a flutter!
Great climactic ending!
Now the real fun begins!
What the the reason for the red paint stuff? I am so pumped to see you put this thing back together!😊
It makes the raw iron non-porous, and it makes it much easier to clean out if sludge were to form.
Sweet! Looks great!
It’s so nice to have a big job done
Looks like a brand new part! Woohoo!!!
Isn't it beautiful!?!
