Making yet another Summer Dress | Drafting and sewing | TURORIAL
Learn how to draft and sew this basic summer dress! I made two versions of it, a short one and a long one. I wore the short one to the Taylor Swift concert and the long one for my best friend's wedding. Both were a success and I love them!!

How to design any Waistline and Waistband you want
มุมมอง 939หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the many ways of modifying skirt and trouser patterns is by changing the waistline. Today I'm going to show you how to do that in two ways. - First we're going to look at waistlines: natural, high and low - Then we're going to look into different waistbands: straight, curved and facing I'll show you how to draft each option, and give you some tips on how to do it properly. • @_nuriamo
      @_nuriamo 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re always going to need the armhole measurement taken from the top pattern. The cap height is a portion of that measurement depending on how much mobility you need!! Is that what you were asking?😊

    This was helpful! But how on earth did you measure the differences? The best i could do whilst putting my ruler in all the places is... just... sort of guess? I could not figure out how to use a second ruler to get a precise number. Also, the bust circumference was super confusing. Are we pretending that boobs are perfectly circular? If so, my circumference goes off my mockup 😂😂😂 would be super helpful if you could indicate which part of the bust (upper bust, side boob, etc.) we need.

    • @_nuriamo
      @_nuriamo 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m glad it helped☺️ And I agree, some of them are very confusing!! What I did was start with the standard measurements and compare. I found that most of them were similar except for the bust that was bigger, and every time I create a design, I test it first just in case… for example I noticed that the dart at the armhole should have been bigger for my body! And for the circumference, I think the most important thing is the under part, that’s what’s going to change the pattern the most so focus on that one!! I only use it as a guide to know how low to create my necklines to still be covered🙈 I hope it’s a little bit more clear!!

    My comments regarding instruments: - I am also not a fan of clips, but they may be useful sometimes, I guess; - magnetic pinholder looks cool, should try it some day; - I like using thinly sliced soap for marks on dark/colored fabrics, also felt tip markers with 'washable' marking from school supplies section are usually cheaper than any special sewing markers; - my first electrical sewing machine was Family brand for 140 in euro equivalent - still going after 19 years!

    • @_nuriamo
      @_nuriamo 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Heey!! Sorry for the late reply, I’ll try to explain but it’s difficult without drawing… If you want your triangle pouch to be length:15cm, width:5cm and height:10cm then the base will be a rectangle of 15cmx5cm. Divide that in half (so 15cmx2.5cm) and rotate those 2.5cm to the sides. From there add your height (10cm) and create the triangle! And that should be all☺️ let me know if it’s a liiiiiiittle bit more clear!

      Hii, yes of course!! To show the waistlines I used the jeans foundation (different to the trouser foundation) and I had to extend the back crotch extension (by 2.5cm), add some length on the back hipline (about 1.5cm) and I scooped the front curve.😊 I’ve also fixed the trouser foundation and for that one I only had to do a full seat adjustment and removed one of the back darts! I want to make a video about fitting pants, but there are soooo many adjustments… I hope this is helpful for now😄

      Amalia, thank you so much🥰 My all time favourite book and the one that finally helped me understand drafting principles was Pattern drafting for fashion design by Helen Joseph Armstrong. It’s a bit of a pricy book but sooo worth it! I have the printed copy because it was cheaper and it’s been good enough. If you want to spend less I would recommend Metric Pattern Cutting for Women’s wear by Winifred Aldrich. I hope it helps☺️ I have them linked in my amazon store front in the description if you want to double check how they look like!!

    with the bread bag, I'd suggest that you ease the paper bag apart and use that as the pattern (it will most likely be one piece of paper cut to the exact shape required which is then folded and glued to make up the bag), rather than measuring the complete bag then drafting your own pattern, but these were all great projects to watch

    So helpful, love it Is it normal, that, with the bust shoulder and bust darts on front and back my shoulders lines are not the same lenght anymore? And what do i do, because if i would make a bodice out of it my front part would have way less fabric between my bust dart and my neck than my back part between the shoulder dart and the neck

      I’m really happy it helped!! I think it’s normal becaue the shoulder is based on “standard numbers” (the 2.4cm for example). I would fix it by calculating the back dart instead of making it of 1.4 cm. So for example, you know your shoulder is 14cm and on the drawing it’s 16cm. Then I would make a dart of 2cm instead of 1.4cm. And the same with the front shoulder. Let me know if I should explain better☺️
