In this video, I set out to answer the question of whether or not we can go subsonic with a passive radiator subwoofer and have good authority in those frequencies. Special thanks to Michael Gustafson, Eric Kingston, and Hayden Stowell for musical tracks used.
Monster-sized Luxury Subwoofer. Dual 15 inch Home Theater DIY Build. 4,000 watts of clean power.
มุมมอง 2.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This subwoofer is tuned to 18 HZ. I tested it before the new owner picked it up and it absolutely makes the room breathe. It hits hard at all frequencies below 65 hz and has extreme authority all the way down to 15 hz. With a 4,000 watt amp, it doesn't shy away from anything.

Nice work, How Low Can You Go, 😂, I built my Transmission Line cabinets about 40+ years ago, it has a 14’ foot 8” line, 10” driver 150w SEAS , 1 1/4 “ tweeter, it stands about 1-50 Mt tall, it a copy of something that was in a magazine from the early 70s , please be careful of the all that dust, children and your shelf’s, I lost a colleague back in the early 90 , he was working in a CNC shop making parts for church organs . Look forward to seeing and hearing the what it sounds like, stay safe, very old English Dude living in France,
HEY GEORGE WASHINGTON CALLED, HE SAID HE WANTS HIS HAIR BACK 😮
Wtf
That's what I was thinking :)
Another great intro!
Thank you. They're a lot of fun to make.
What size roundover bit are you using? I really like that large opening.
That't a 1 inch radius roundover bit with a 1/2 inch shank.
@@righteousbuilds3576 Dang, my router is 3/8 shaft. I was thinking of having a solid piece of wood machined on a lathe to create a larger flare and then insert that piece of wood into my enclosure. Would look cool.
That's a really short port. Is it tuned to upper 40's?
You say it's tuned to 18hz? 6 x 4" ports is about 75 sq.in. of port. How big is that enclosure? At least 8 cu ft? Maybe I'm underestimating it's size. So maybe your using 8 or 9 sq in of port per cube? Maybe 7?
The port tuning is exactly 18 hz. With 15 cubic feet, you can get away with shorter ports.
@righteousbuilds3576 Wow, that's 5 sq in per cube. As long as your not getting any chuffing or port noise at high volume I suppose it's fine.
If only I had a math teacher like you I might have actually been invested in what was being said. oh well
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say. I usually do a unit on sinusoidal waves (sound waves) and my subwoofers play a big part there :).
@ that alone would have me looking forward to what’s coming the next day. Keeping an eye out for the next vid in the series, hope all is well.
@@lilmez34 They all look forward to "sound wave" day :). Thanks for the kind words. They are much appreciated.
I have the exact same subwoofer in a t line that has a really flat response from 15hz to 50hz, and 60hz has a huge peak cause of car cabin gain
Nice. Yeah, I think it will do just what I want it to.
Awesome build pal! I’m surprised no bracing at all. Wouldn’t even a couple of round dowel braces help, or is it really not needed? I know I have braced and used dampening material in big floor standing speakers and it really can help clean and tighten up the bass. Perhaps speakers are different than subs. Looking forward to your next one!
With big slow sound waves, resonant frequencies are easy to keep in check. As long as they are well above or well below the frequencies that it plays at, you're okay. With the 1 inch baltic birch, you need to brace about every 16 inches if its a big build, but with sides that are only 20 inches, I'm not too worried about it. It will also be pretty heavily damped. But if there is an issue during testing, I'll unload the enclosure and add some bracing.
cringe
Lol. I'm a teacher, I can deal with cringe. Thanks for the comment.
Hi, I am very new to home theater subwoofer builds...... Which program do you use to design your enclosures & how do you power them for use at home. Thanks in advance
Great question. Once I got bitten by the "sub bug" I started absorbing every bit of info I could get and just started building subs. I learned through a few less-than perfect builds what works and what reduces output. Long story short, I don't use any programs. I just design it in my head, do a quick hand drawing or two, and start building. I either just do the math or use an online calculator to determine port length and tuning.
Could sooo do without the music
I'll think about it. Thanks for the comment :)
Bad Ass x
Thank you. Much appreciated
what did you use for "discs"?
Dayton audio includes 7 discs for each passive radiator. They're just really big heavy gauge washers.
@@righteousbuilds3576 but the weight of the washer will have a direct impact on the on the performace , any way you can weigh them?
@@kawicepticon8866 lemme see what I can find out. I don't have a very sensitive scale. I'll do some research.
@@kawicepticon8866 Okay, just found it. Each disc is 75 grams.
@@righteousbuilds3576 Thank you a ton for finding this for me
Bruh!! I can only imagine those two behemoths in the back, actually turned up! The meme, with the base hitting, and the explosion, comes to mind!
Do yourself a favour. Get a Vac you can attach to that saw. You don't breath the cr*p in, your blades will last longer as they don't get as hot and it stops all your tools getting covered.
awesome vid, makes me wanna build one myself. if u could share dimensions would be cool. love the B2 driver, those things bump.😁
Sure. It's 42x22x22. It's not the biggest sub I own, but she's a big girl.
@@righteousbuilds3576 thnx so much, now i gotta use my math to calculate this to cm (netherlands) haha, and port lenght? like to get low also.
@@markexel 1 inch = 2.54 cm :)
@@righteousbuilds3576 already figured it out, got some calculating to do sizewise since im gonna put two oldskool 15inch xplods in it i have laying around. see what i can come up with. Looking forward to next video. Thnx again.
@@markexel I wish you the best of luck on your project. Let me know if you have any questions.
A tapped horn 15" would be more approppriate for the label...
I haven't tried one of those yet. I'll have to put it on the list.
@@righteousbuilds3576 I highly recommend it, although it may need some work to model it. Luckily a free tool called hornresp is available and judging from my measurements it can quite accurately predict the response.
Ok 👌🏻 I will keep watching. I am also turned off by mid bass and want the effortless deep bass.
Then you've come to the right place, my friend. :)
That intro! 🤣
Best Viewer ever :)
That intro was so cool 🙂
At least the kids had a fun ride :)
"Must be one of the neighbor kids" lol, but that bend looks cool. Excellent build.
Yeah, where did that little kid come from anyway? :)
Best intro yet. 😆
Thank you. It's a lot of fun to put those together
B2 is no joke. Best subs on the market imo right there with DD.
Agreed. That drivers just keeps on proving itself.
Doesn't adding the weight increase the fs not lower it?
Fs is known as the resonant frequency (the frequency that the driver/passive radiator is the most comfortable vibrating at). Adding weight lowers that resonant frequency.
Music is freakin awesome and this is an insane build for a home theater sub It looks so f***kin sick. Great video, I'm subscribing!
I"m glad to have you on board. Welcome.

Box is way small
Yes, I agree. I'm building a properly sized ported enclosure now, but Im not done with the PR's just yet :).
@ 14:06 By the way the subs are moving, the track playing is Bass, I Love You! :)
That is exactly right. That song has shaken things up all over my house many times :). Can I play it without copyright issues?
@ That track’s bass can sure do chaos with the right system that’s for sure. Considering that there’s many people in TH-cam using this track, I don’t think a copyright should be an issue. But probably those people are not getting any profit from the videos due to a TH-cam copyright claim so just check to see if you can use it or not because I’m not sure.
@@Bassotronics It's worth a shot and my channel isn't quite monetized yet anyway. Lol.
I built a 10-inch subwoofer with a passive radiator tuned to 16Hz. It truly digs very deep. It is not loud, but it didn't need to be loud for me to absolutely enjoy it. It still sounds very visceral, even at lower volume. I can feel the bass even at reduced volume. It does an excellent job with pipe organs & synthesizers. The secret sauce is the 10-inch passive radiator with huge Xmax. It is capable of hitting very hard on well recorded kick drum, so it is not sloppy sounding at all.
That's awesome. Yeah, I was very surprised at what those little 10's can do.
I have a subwoofer that’s dual voice coil and it has 1600 watts
Very nice. Might as well put it to work.
anybody else recognize the song he played based on the movement or is it just me?
If you guessed "Bass I love you", you would be correct :).
3? 🤣😂🤡!
I like the #clickbait making it sound and look like it was one 10” subwoofer. Maybe you have a better chance with three 10” subwoofers.
Ok let's pix it
I would have heard that loud metal to metal clash..
I wish I would have filmed it. It was a spectacular failure. :)
Yankee doodle went to town 😂🖤
He sure did. :)

Your Excursion has to be two times more than your driver on your passave subwoofers
Very true. I thought I was leaving plenty of headroom since the driver was rated at 20mm of xmax and the PRs were rated at 30, but it turns out that driver is actually a freak. lol.
You deserve at least 500k subscriber sir, very talented. someone is so lucky to be your neighbor! 🙏👍👍💪💪
That bluetooth passive radiator is a new one.
You need equal sq3 for each radiator
LMFAO
A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do :).
I saw that happening in the first video 📹 😮😢 to tight it was. Good videos, love a mind of experimention and learn to correct and improve errors ❤🙏🏼💯🔈🔉🔉
Thank you. That's much appreciated.
If that happening to the drivers that plate amplifier not going to last very long at all . The bolt on the backs should be cut and use a nut inside of wing Nutt so it can't hit.💯🫡✌️
Agreed. Yeah, I'm gonna do a rebuild on that box.
You already got another set but the passives radiator should have just as much excursion if not more then the subwoofer being used . I'm pretty sure those passive don't have as much travel then the b2.audio i suggest the earth quake passive radiator would be alot better option there also a lot slimer. Just afyi😉🫡💯✌️
You just gave me an idea for my convertible Solara that I plan on putting at least 4 to 8000 w into. This box type would resonate bass through the back seat which is one of the big problems when a convertible top is down. What if I did two tens with two 12-in passive radiators on each side, kind of like a JBL Bluetooth speaker. I've taken them apart and the speakers receiving power are always at least a third smaller than the passive radiators. So, theoretically the same concept can work in a trunk. I even thought about cutting a rectangle shaped hole in the middle of the seat back so I can run a port for an in trunk sixth order. Building a system in a convertible is a challenge, especially being a bass junkie like me. What would you suggest for this?
There's only one way to find out if it works:). Just make sure that your PR's can handle the excursion from your 10's. You don't want to pop them like I did to mine.
no sound test? meh
Check out the short that I posted. It has a nice sound test for that sub. I appreciate the comment.
@righteousbuilds3576 will do
Whats the song got a single 15 4k rms in my car can play down to 17hz so kinda wanna try this track if possible thanks 🫨
Talk to FPSzky, who also commented on this video. He makes tracks like that.

add a little volume and also gives access to the weights for any adjustment... I may actually try this.
Yeah, it makes it so easy to tune and still looks and sounds very high end :)
