Hello and Welcome to Miller Railfan!
Miller Railfan is comprised of my brother and I, who are both passionate train enthusiasts. We have been filming trains since our childhood. Together with all of our videos from the past and the present, we decided to create a TH-cam channel. Seeking heritage units, horn shows, meets, and rare catches, we predominantly produce content covering Metro-North Railroad's Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven Lines (including the 3 CT branch lines.) We additionally film Amtrak, Long Island, Housatonic, CSX, and more in the Tri-State Area. Finally, we livestream at train stations at least once a year! Ultimately, we hope to capture rail history in the making. Thanks for checking us out, and please like & subscribe!
P.S. Forgot to mention, GO 231!
Hope you enjoy,

VALLEY RAILROAD STEAM TRAIN CHASE: Peak Foliage Steam Railfanning
Operating on Ex-New Haven Railroad trackage from Essex to Deep River CT, the Valley Railroad Company runs some of the few active steam locomotives on the east coast. This video documents the Valley's operations from a glimpse as we chase their 2-8-0 consolidation number 97, Miller Railfan's first steam locomotive! And of course, it is done in the only possible fashion: a chase! Both myself and @TheFerroequinologistChannel chased 97 up and down the line twice witnessing the beauty of the autumn season from countless angles. Also included is one of their diesel engines running their dinner train. Hop along for an epic journey of the Valley Railroad! Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe!!

Metro-North's Danbury Branch: Railfanning the Middle of the Line
มุมมอง 98814 วันที่ผ่านมา
Based on mileposts, the very center of the Danbury branch is one mile south of Branchville. Starting at Branvhille, we slowly work our way South seeing 3 trains on the branch right in the middle of the line. Metro-North’s Waterbury Branch: Great River Crossing in Milford
มุมมอง 407หลายเดือนก่อน
Tucked in the Northern part of Milford CT on the Housatonic River is Great River Golf Club. This location offers a unique feature: a no horn zone at-grade crossing. This is to not disturb golfers as the the tee boxes for a few holes are in close proximity to the tracks. Also included is a Waterbury branch deadhead train at Rowayton from earlier this year. This marks the second time we have caught Metro-North's New York Central Heritage Unit, the first being at Ardsley on Hudson. Enjoy a variety of angles as 211 chugs through the hamlet of Branchville, CT. He even attempted to do a SAAHC departing the station. This unit is truly a beautiful locomotive, and hopefully, it is here to stay for many more years (And we can film it more too!) Thanks for...

Metro-North's New Haven Line: Amtrak ACS-64s at Jenkins Curve
มุมมอง 157หลายเดือนก่อน
The portion of the former New Haven Railroad's mainline that approaches Bridgeport Station (going Eastbound) is on an elevation built with stone. Not only is it elevated, but there is also a giant 600 ft radius swing northward, known as Jenkins Curve. In 1955, a massive wreck occurred here by a train going over double the limit. Here in the present day, we see two Amtrak Northeast Regional trai...
217 IN COMMAND on Metro-North's Danbury Branch!
มุมมอง 1.1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
For its 40th year as a successful railroad, Metro-North wrapped 4 P32 Genesis locomotives in heritage schemes to honor past railroads. Additionally, there is one designated for their employees. This unit, number 217, honors the Penn Central Transportation Company, a 1968 merger of the bankrupt Pennsylvania RR, New York Central RR, and eventually, New Haven Railroads. Although functional for les...

NEW HAVEN FL9s Operating on the Cape Cod Central Railroad
มุมมอง 5372 หลายเดือนก่อน
In 1956, electrification of the New Haven Railroad's mainline ended in New Haven, not Boston as it does today. Due to this, they were seeking a dual-mode locomotive that could run from Grand Central under third rail power (where trains are required to under emissions regulations) all the way to Boston without a transfer. This task was no easy one for the Elcectro-Motive Division (EMD) of Genera...

Is metro north still running the Danbury line
What do you mean? Of course they are they have been for the past 40 years
1:03 where is this on the line? Is it private property or a house? I railfan alot my self but dont post stuff on yt
This is right off of route 7 in the preschool lot that's there
Probably one of the older steam locomotive residents on the valley Railroad it’s nice to see old number 97 in operation and now the 97 has worked alongside Chinese SY class 2-8-2 locomotives back in the early 90s it was the 1647 now Susquehanna 142 today number 97 operates alongside her relative engine former Knox and Kane Railroad 1658 now reborn as New Haven 3025 spot on job on this video I like seeing the crossing signals included as well
Yes I would so much rather 97 than the Chinese locomotive. Thanks for your support and kind words!
@@MillerRailfan you’re very welcome I’m glad they decided to restore 97 rather than keep it as a display engine glad to have her back in service
They should have this for the holidays up the Danbury branch I know Essex does
I would love to see something like that! Although it seems unlikely, it would be amazing!
Great one o was say thank you for the video below
Very nice👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂
Great video!
Ecellent good Video 👍Thumbs Up👍Big LIKE👍
It might be a test train
This was filmed before the washout so trains were still running
I didn’t know the train was here
I have saw 220 and 213 5 years a week
Like Stamford local?
No, it is on its way to New York City from Danbury. From here it is an express

😂😂Good one!
I heard that all stations in Waterbury Branch, Derby/Shelton, Ansonia, Seymour, Beacon Falls, Waterbury, and Naugatuck will be renovated and have improvements starting construction in 2025.
Yes, I have had a hand in the research/design portion of this project. The stations will be high level platforms (similar to those of the Danbury branch) and will have accessible ramps as well as additional parking spaces. All stations except for Waterbury (which already has these capabilities) will be upgraded.
There’s no date here
August 13, 2024
This was way before the damage happened and stopped all trains too right?
Yes for sure, that was the last week of August. The line is still shut down
On my birthday I went there at night to watch
Was that taken near Great River country club? Great video!
Yes it was!
Super awesome video! I like that spot along 7! 226 is climbing that hill nice and fast! I just saw it last Tuesday at Garrison. 👍
What camera do you use? The quality is amazing in this video
Thank you very much! Believe it or not, it's just an iPhone 7! Thanks for the comment and support
Great footage!
How did you do that
Route 7 parallels the tracks in this area. One person driving, one person filming
best 40th anniversary unit
Agreed, but still behind the New Haven unites in my opinion
Looking great in NYC livery. Good work, thanks for showing.

Ngl I know Amtrak is Amtrak for a reason, but I can think of a few stops they can share with Metro-North’s Hudson Line: -Riverdale The reason for Riverdale is to partly help mainly with people that live there only, possibly can only take M7-A’s due to extensive diesel express trains passing. Amtrak can make a quick stop there, and then go until Croton Harmon and on -Ossining: I feel it can stop there because it does look a transit center, similar to Croton-Harmon and New London, and could make a quickly stop for anyone just off the bus or doesn’t want to transfer to Croton Harmon one stop for an Amtrak. It makes sense. Peekskill: I feel like instead of flying by, it makes that one quick pit stop, and everyone starting in that are and neighborhood don’t have to go local the rest of the way. I know people will disagree, this will never happen, and this is unreal, but to my opinion, Amtrak makes more stops on New Haven line than the Hudson. Hudson can have more than just the Spuyten Duyvil junction, Croton-Harmon, and Poughkeepsie. I know, just get a card, drive/Uber or get to Amtrak stops only, but just a considerable idea to have 3-4 stops extra like New Haven Line.
If you don’t respect my opinion it’s ok, just a fictional debut thought
@@railfannerjs6308 Amtrak does not stop at Spuyten Duyvil, only Yonkers, Harmon, and Poughkeepsie. I personally think Amtrak is fine being limited service because Metro-North operates locally. I understand some stations don't have trains stopping a whole lot, but that's because not a whole lot of people get on. Per your example, Riverdale, there are only 543 daily riders. Compare that to Croton-Harmon which has almost 5,000 daily riders, it just doesn't make sense for Amtrak to add on an extra 5 minutes to their trip for that. Also, that would mean running on the platform tracks vs the inner express tracks like it currently does. This would create a logistic nightmare for MNR communications and switching. However, it will be nice to see Metro-North go into Penn Station someday which would be virtually the same thing as amtrak stopping at said locations.
231 one of the best!
Certainly our favorite locomotive!
@@MillerRailfan tbh mines the 230.
231!!👍
funny to see a ps32 next to a acela.
Honest opinion what do you think is better 220 or 230? Personally I like 230 better.
I like 230 better as well because it's in the New Haven Heritage scheme
217’s fast bell kinda freaks me out. Makes my heart race just as fast as the bell rings each time I like the ding….. *tick* ding….. *tick* But this one’s bell is like DING..DING..DING..DING..DING..DING.. *ticks off*😈 🛎️🛎️🔔🛎️🔔🔔🛎️🛎️🔔🔔🛎️🔔🛎️🔔🛎️🔔🔔🛎️ It’s just so awkward how fast that GE bell is going 😵💫
231 has a beautiful horn!

How do these still work so well but not for metro north
because these are some of the few that were preserved
@@greaternyrailfan MNR didn't want to invest in aging equipment, they'd rather just put it towards new locomotives. All the FL9s needed was some TLC, something MNR didn't provide. Plus they needed more reliability than this excursion train
