You can do this without nesting container divs inside other divs. Simply apply a 4% padding to the outer div and don't bother with the inner div.

What threshold of browser support would you wait for until you adopt new CSS features in general (not just nesting)? It's about 88% now, but you alluded to waiting until 100% adoption?
I would wait until 98% to be safe but this depends on your audience. In Google Analytics you can see the browsers used by your visitors to help you make that decision.
a nice way to clean up conditional types is to take advantage of data attributes - so in the css you'd reference the element with a data type of data-isFirst and style off of that. i personally try to avoid and kind of 'business logic' in the css

Hey Ivan, great video. Have you tried to shrink the width of the browser window? In my case the images start to "grow" from top and bottom...
Hi, I see what you mean. This demonstration was for desktop only, for responsive design we need to adjust. There are a few things you can do: 1. Add media queries and adjust the height of the card for smaller devices, so it remains square and can fit the background image correctly. 2. Have image files with a bigger height 3. On smaller devices, change the background-size to cover, since there is no hover state.

actually I was talking about the current project;) one of my displays is in vertical position (narrower), and on each card, on both ends (top and bottom) - new cards start to pop... try by yourself to shrink the width of the browser window...

finally, I dont understand what took them so long it seems really obvious
its redundant to add height to your container, its height is set by the content, likewise its redundant to use it in your top bar, you should just add padding to its content as it will always be 100% of its content, unless specified
Hi Chris, as I explain in the video, I set the height to 100% because I tend to use flexbox a lot, and to have a vertical alignment on parent elements with fixed height, like a topbar or hero section, you need your container to grow with the parent element. Regarding your second point, using paddings would not be the correct approach because I would have to set the same paddings to all other sections of the page in order to have the left and right alignment, this would cause unnecessary code repetition. The container is set only once for all screen dimensions and I can use it many times throughout the page.
@@dawebschools even with flexbox declaring a height to any layout element is redundant...you would only be applying padding to the top and bottom, reduce your code with multiple variables, eg padding:1rem auto; or if you are only gonna use left and right padding theres different ways ways to do it, padding: 0 auto; or padding-inline:auto, as long as you are within your container then you write less code
