Gili Komodo 11 On-Water Performance Review | How Did this Paddle Board Kayak Hybrid Do?
I love gili company. The meno and the adventure are great boards for me and what I do for storage and etc. I just bought the blackfin xl so I’m excited to use it. But gili will always be the brand I rock with.
I agree! Gili makes very underrated boards that are well thoughtout, functional, lightweight while blending a good amount of stiffness to their mid and higher priced models. Have fun on you Blackfin XL! I'd be interested to see what your thoughts are on it compared to the Gili boards.
Would this be a good paddle board a beginner?
Yup! It has great stability thanks to its width and shape :)
Thanks for putting the time into these reviews. Very useful. I just bought the Carta Marina CX based on your comments (and other reviews). In fact, it arrived this morning.I tried the older ULF version last year and found it to be as stable and fast as my old Starboard Blend ASAP hard-board (great fun day board but not useable for touring). I did notice it being a bit less manoeuvrable, but that is understandable as it is longer and built for touring. One thing about this board being so light is the ability to potentially pack it all up in the case and hike to into locations. This opens up the potential for some unique little adventures. I find the paddle a bit heavier than my full carbon paddle; however, it is pretty good for a paddle that comes with a board. Nicely designed and comfortable in the hands. I wish they would give the option of a full carbon/lighter paddle as an upgrade. The pump is awesome but pretty heavy for touring. I would probably buy a smaller pump if going out on longer/overnight jaunts to shave a few pounds. Overall, I am stoked to have this board and can't wait to use it.
Solid analysis my friend! Yeah it is very nice how light these boards are. For my test in this lake we had to walk with them for like a solid 10 mintues down a hill and it was pretty easy. I shutter to think what a 30 lb paddle board would have been like!
Did you try it with a different paddle?
Unfortunetly not as I had other boards I had to test and Sea Gods needed the board back. With a normal paddle I'd imagine the board would be nice to paddle for recreational outings.
I’ve been looking into nixy so I was pleasantly surprised to see you’ve already done a review on them! 🥳 I’m agonizing over all the sup and even sit on top kayak options.
It really depends what you are looking to get out of the paddle board! I've always liked Nixy as they do make good boards and feature great customer service. I just wish this model has the accessories of the G4 series included.
Great overview! I'm in the market for my first blow up SUP. I have had a 10'6'' Riviera all-around regular board for years. Not new to paddle boarding. I've surfed it, I've raced it, and I've cruised on it. I don't have roof racks anymore so looking for something more portable that fits my needs. I want to be able to cruise, do some yoga, possible surf (but not priority at all), have longer adventures. I live in south florida and have a lot of back water / river riding. also some Gulf riding. I am 5'11'', 180lbs male. Would like to spend under $800. What would be your #1 recc? Strongly considering the iROCKER 11 Ultra. Or the BLACKFIN CX 10'6" ULTRA. Thanks!
I think ultimatly those two choices you listed are pretty good picks but it depends what activity you would do the most or what the priority would be. You can certainly do yoga on the Blackfin CX Ultra or 11 Ultra but they won't be the best suited boards as usually the characteristic of a good yoga board is a wider shape and wider width. For a pure yoga board I do like the Diatom Ten6 by Sea Gods or the Gili Komodo. The Meno 11'6" is also good for that as well as the Pioneer Pro although the Pioneer may be out of your budget range. If you prefer to have a more lightweight manueverable board The Blackfin Ultra CX is a good pick. I found the Ultra 11 to be a decent Jack of All Trades board but my 2021 board is not the most stable. Later models are reported to have better stability however. If Stability is important to you I do like the Meno 11'6" as it actually had decent manueverability and tracking for a board of its size and it has a lot of well thought out onboard features and good quality accessories. It's not too heavy either. I'm just throwing out ideas here as finding a board that is good at all cruise, yoga, surf, longer distance paddles and back country rivers is a bit difficult as all of those things require different characteristics from boards. Like I said in the begining if one or two of those activities takes priority I may be able to narrow the list down a bit haha. Cheers!
If portability is your priority then the Ultra Series may be your best bet. Just had to add that haha
I really appreciate the thoughtful reply! Portability, efficiency/speed/tracking, ability to handle some light chop, yoga (but ok not having very stable board - I like the challenge! Ha), anddd least important- surfing. Those are my priorities in order from most to least important. I actually ended up getting the CX Ultra from myself, AND a Cruiser 10 6 Ultra for the girlfriend (beginner). Mine was on sale for Labor Day for 499. Hers was 399. Comes with electric pump, paddle, bag, etc. Both boards seem to have great reviews and the price was 50% off which seemed great. Given the other options I was looking at, this seemed to be highly rated and great middle ground price. Hopefully I made good choices. Do you think I did? Eek.
Another thing about the Ultra line: They only have the 9in dual fins they come with.. I often do shallow water paddles in rivers and am worried about this being a problem. Do you think I’ll be ok? Talked to CS yesterday and they said they have different replaceable fin options in productions, and should be avail sometime in Oct. so that that’s good.
@@david243121 After telling me your prioritt list I think you made a good choice. You getting the Cruiser for your girlfriend was also a good move because if you wanted the slightly more stable board for yoga you can use hers. I think you chose well :)
now you need to do the weekender crew XL
Just started using my new Waterwalker 126 and this was super helpful re: fin installation, packing, etc... Love my Thurso Surf so far. I also have the kayak conversion kit, which was surprisingly comfortable for the short paddle I tested it on. Thx for the great video!
Thank you for the kind comments :) It always makes my day! I'm happy you are enjoying your Waterwalker 126!
Very cool! We have been looking for some SUP options for our van travels! Thanks for the information! ~Karen & Shannon WOY
Glad it was helpful! Happy SUPing! :)
I’ll probably be ordering one of these. Just got the Explorer Pro which is great and a Pioneer will just be a fantastic addition to link up and chill. I debated hard Explorer vs Pioneer but the Explorer scoots pretty good with minimal effort and a Pioneer will be better for my wife and daughter.
It's not "a little bit more playing side to side" For me Thursos are the most rolling boards in the world. They need to change their blueprints to make flatter boards. Now they are more like kayaks than SUPs. May be they had only blueprints for surfing boards and scaled them. I'm not sure. But I definitely wouldn't like to jiggle all the time on a water.
Just wow! I considered this model among few Sea Gods. Its shape is different, and now I can see it definitely helps to get better results in terms of a maneuverability and tracking at the same time. 9 to 6 is way better than 12 to 3 for Skyla =)
Thank you for the review. I was aware of a tracking ability and a stability.
10 paddle strokes on a water say more than 20 minutes of talking to me. It would be great to see a part two of this review ) UPD. Ah! I've found it ) Good job dude. Keep testing
Appreciate you :)
Great tips! I also like your laid-back demeanor 1:38 was hilarious 4:57 don’t forget the PDF! Loll
Recommendations for PDFs btw?? I always have a huge one, but it’s kind of annoying to carry around
For something somewhat affordable I like using the Onyx Movent PFDs. If you want to spend a bit more Mustang Survival has great PFDs
@@inflatablesupauthority Awesome, thanks so much!
It's pronounced "boat" 😊
That bottom art is pretty amazing.
May I suggest you score each board based on factors such as tracking, comfort, maneuverability, stability, value for the cost, etc? This way we can use your videos to compare models that you haven't compared to each other yet. Just a thought. I appreciate your videos. Very comprehensive.
I do have these on my written reviews and written round ups in the bio but I appreciate the feedback! It's a good suggestion! 🙂
New to the sport which would you recommend this or the bluefin carbon cruise 10.8? Thank you for your time.
@@ammatarph It depends what you are looking for. If you want a board that is more stability focused I would go for the Isle Pioneer Pro. The Cruise Carbon will be a board that is quicker in the water and therefore better for longer paddling trips. Overall if I looked at the two packages I believe the Pioneer Pro gives you more value and is a better thought-out package, both with its on-board accessories and its kayak kit because of the Isle Link system. Don't get me wrong the Cruise Carbon is a good board but I don't think it's worth as much of the hype and at least to me it certainly didn't feel like THAT much of an improvement to the regular Bluefin Cruise board which is cheaper. Hope this helps.
Today, I just scored two of these in 10’6” for $250 each, with all the accessories . They were used customer returns. I cleaned them up and they look almost new. They even threw in a nice hat! The folks at Isle are very helpful and answered all my questions.
Dang! That's a great deal! Good scouting! 👍🏼
I would add - get a good paddle. Cheap boards tend to come with heavy, inflexible, aluminium shaft paddles. Buy one separately, with the weight well below 1 kg (hint: good brands publish weights of their paddles, less is better). Bonus tip: adjustable paddles tend to get water in the shaft. Pour it out before/after you get on the water.
Solid tip! as soon as paddle boarding becomes a hobby a good paddle is one of the first upgrades you want to get.
Very good tips for all who are just getting onto paddle boarding... I'd recommend this video to all of my friends.
Thanks for watching! Much appreciation
Unless I missed it, you didn't mention which of the three center fins you used for the tests.
Ahh good catch! In this case I used the Touring Fin (the longest one) as these are the fins that are standard with most Gili models. So from a comparison point of view it made sense to use this one. I also think its the one people will most likely use in most instances, but its cool that they give you the choice in this package.
I have the ULF version of the CM. I started PB last year and it did take getting used to as I am a heavier set person. but yes paddling on it was much easier than an Amazon brand all-rounder that I returned
Yeah as a rule of thumb learning on a touring board won't be the most stable experience ever but it does challenge you and helps you adapt quicker :). It helps that this one is 32" wide too!
Manual pumping is your warm up, if you don’t warm up you risk injury. Otherwise good tips!
That's fair, everyone has different ways to go about it. For me personally I'm a bit taller and I have suffered back injuries in the past so I personally try to avoid them because the manual pumps that come with the packages are often a little to short for me which causes me to bend over more than I'd like. My motto is everyone has their personal preferences and that's great! Do what works for you! :)
I prefer it manually, quicker and good warm up.
Plus, isn't exercise part of the activity?
@@inflatablesupauthorityi have luck sitting down and pumping for the first half then standing up for the rest
Do you like this more over the blackfin XL 6.0?
I actually just tested the Blackfin XL 6.0 a few days ago. I would say it depends on what you are using the board for. This years BOTE HD Aero comes with more accessories compared to the Blackfin XL. I found both to be very stable although I would give a very slight edge to the BOTE HD Aero for pure stability. In terms of paddling, I found the Blackfin XL 6.0 tracked better and definitely handled wind/ tide better than the HD Aero. In my mind, HD Aero is better for those calm lake conditions where it's relatively calm out while the Blackfin Ultra CX is a board that better suits paddling further distances and being in coastal areas.
Sorry, Blackfin XL 6.0 not Ultra CX lol
Great tips! I’ve paddled on hard boards for years (all rentals) but recently purchased an inflatable (a BG from Costco with great reviews) but boy it was like learning from scratch again. Add in that it’s been a couple of years and your tips are fully adding up on good things to correct on my next paddle. Thanks for sharing 17 good to know paddling tips in a quick and understandable way!
Thank you for the comment! Yeah a lot of people underestimate the transition from hard board to inflatables. You just gotta have patience with it and it will come 🙂
I bought this exact board! What electric pump did you buy for this?
I have a few electric pumps haha. The ones I own which I like the best are iRocker' Electric pump, Outdoor Master Shark II. I've also heard a lot of good things about Sea Gods electric pump and the Nixy Ventus.
Good commentary. I got a deal on an Exped 138 (the smaller version of this 150) last fall... was out on it yesterday in breeze/wavy reservoir, and unexpectedly tipped over due to repeating broadside wave patterns (the 138 is only 30" wide and feels quite tippy). I got back up and stayed up, but it required focus that kept me from totally enjoying just being out there. I chose the 138 due to my light weight (i'm 5'-11" but a 150# string bean) but am left wondering who the Exped series are really intended for. I find myself favoring my family's Waterwalkers (126 or even the smaller 120) as they're more stable and still track straight enough (particularly with a bit of paddle feathering / j-stroke-like). Anyway, debating maybe switching to Waterwalker 132 (11') since I realistically won't be "expeditioning" and mainly just paddling a few miles on inland waterways (and its stability might be really helpful if I'm carrying a playmate-like cooler stuffed with lunch for a family of four. Trying to get my head around what it means to expedition, if built into that definition is inherent tippyness that works against you in broadside waves.
Thanks for the comment! The reality of the situation is 80% of paddlers will appreciate the Waterwalker 132 over the Expedition 138 due to the reasons you mentioned. I havent tested the 138 yet so I can't speak too much on it but the reason why folks would get those Expedition board lines is for better glide/ speed who have had a good amount of experience with paddle boarding in the past. I do have a video on the Waterwalker 132 you can check out! When I tested both out on the same day the Waterwalker definetly felt like the more stable pick compared to the Expedition 150. You can definetly put a cooler on and still feel pretty stable when standing on the board.
Thanks, learned a LOT! Saving it so i can come back again. 😊 I’ve never been paddle boarding so this helps, big time!
Thank you for your comment! Let me know how it goes! :D
Nice review, just picked one up on a mother's day sale and I am stoked to get it on the water!
Awesome to hear! Let me know what your thoughts are when you try it!
I just ordered one..
Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
How many min did it take to get to 15 psi? Mine got to that 2nd gear at about 2 psi and by 4 psi it felt rigid but if that 2nd gear is normal I'll try again. Thx!
For this specific video I did not record the time. I find it's dependant on how much the pump is used in that session as well as how warm/ cold it is. I will be recording a video about this soon testing different pumps and their times so stay tuned!
Let’s hear the PFD recs! I’d love to see some options for super-minimalist, yet won’t-break-bank because it’s an only-when-required thing. Usually it’s the most comfortable/compact that have the higher price tag, it seems. What little gem of an affordable PFD am I missing?
Great question! First you have to ask yourself what style of PFD you want. Belt? Vest? Suspender type PFDs? Realistically you CAN get away with getting one of the cheaper vest PFD's as long as its US Coast Guard or Transport Canada (or what ever water governing body you are in). However if you find yourself paddling for longer periods they can be bulky and kind of annoying. I personally use the Onyx Move Vent for a few years and I've been happy with it as it doesn't get in my way and my go pro rests well ontop of it. The Move Vent is in and around the $60 to $100 range depending where you live.
Thanks for this. I was specifically looking for a comparison of these two models! Question - I’m 5’9” 240#. I am leaning toward the Meno for a ton of reasons. But at my height do you think it would be too wide for me to paddle? I could always lengthen the paddle. Right? I don’t care about speed or efficiency.
Hey! Always happy to help ;) The Gii Meno 11'6" would be a good board for you if you want to find that initial stability. I don't think the boards width/ your height will disrupt your paddling stroke too much. My friend is about your height and paddled the board with a full adult passenger onboard no problem! He still tells me that this is his favorite board he's paddled to date! Gili also has the new Komodo 11which comes with a kayak hybrid set-up. It's like an inbetween of the 2 boards in this video but its not as stable as the Meno 11'6". Check out my bio as I just released a video review and onboard of it :)
Really nice job. Who says plaid and stripes don’t go.
Thanks dude! I try 😂feel free to subscribe we got a bunch more content/ boards coming in hot!
Great review of the HD Bote. You have covered all the bases for sure. Helps me to decide if I want to get this or not.

Don't look down. Look out at the horizon. If you fall so what. You have to learn to get back on anyway
I JUST received my Adventure today!! I was really contemplating that or this Meno board. Very touch decision but the Adventure is slightly wider. I’m still a relative beginner.
To me they felt fairly similar from a stability standpoint. While the Meno touring board is a tad thinner it is also 6" longer which helps with stability. However I have had a few beginners ride the Adventure 12 and they liked the way the board felt.
Hi! The pressure gauge dial on the pump doesn’t work on our pump for some reason. Does yours?? It’s the one that came with the paddleboard and it inflates perfectly fine but the pressure gauge dial hand simply doesn’t move at all. And the manufacturer has sent us two replacement pumps and we have the same issue every time. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated as we have no way to determine the PSI of the inflated board. Thanks!
If I were you I would look at another pump. If you use the board a lot I would get an electric pump (Outdoor Master Shark II, iRocker, Gili, Nixy all good picks). In terms of manual pumps the dual-chambered pump from Nixy usually does the job for me. In this case, I didn't use the manual pump for the Serenelife board, I used one of the electric pumps I had. I have back issues that flare up when I use manual pumps so I personally avoid them.
Thanks for your review, I was interested in this board - deciding between this or Isle Pioneer 2.0. The price of that in Canada is pretty tempting plus that has paddle straps as well.
Thanks for watching! I can't speak too much on the Pioneer 2.0 as I havent tested it yet (working on it haha). But everyone who has tried the Gili Meno 11'6" has loved it. Speaking from the Gili meno 11'6" though I have had a lot of people test this board throughout my travels lately and they all have had high praise. It also has been one of the most stable SUPs i've tested so if stability is super important to you it's an awesome pick. Especially if you are taller/ have a larger frame :)
thanks yes my needs are more a preference for stability. 5'7 210lbs but would want to bring along my 4 year old and spouse on occasion. I saw your review for 12'6 is up and will be checking that out. thinking 11'6 meno should be enough
@@shnukms Based one what you described I think the Meno 11'6" would be the best bet. Especially if you wanted to use it as a tandem with your 4 year old and spouse. When I travelled to Kaslo a few weeks ago this was our go to tandem board and it did the job pretty well. I think we had it up to 320 lbs between 2 people once and my friend was able to stand up paddle the entire time with the other passenger seated.
Thanks for the review. I’m looking at this board for next year. I’m. 6’ 3” - 230lb - Stability is key for me. Would you recommend this….everything points to a yes. Mostly coastal paddling, but I’d like the option to add one of my kids to the deck for days out. I think this will take 2 kayak seats, so thinking of adding one to the front and I can SUP from behind.
thanks for the review, interested in this for the price in Canada. also Isle Pioneer 2.0 as another.
It’s just pronounced as boat.
Damn my Canadian accent! 😂
Ordered the classic. I have a cheaper costco board that is light and wanted an upgrade with a stable rigid board. I feel good about my decision after watching this.
Yup, my friend who owns the All Around 11 classic bought it August 2020. It's still going strong today!
Ok, since you're the Inflatable Paddle Board Authority, maybe you can help me. I have an inflatable paddle board, and I want to add a fin box to the center of the bottom so I can take up Wing SUPing. Is there a product that you can recommend?
Great review! What is the difference between the all around 11 1.0 and 2.0
The 1.0 Ultras have a slightly smaller width by about an inch to inch and a half compared to the 2.0's which are accurate to what the width specs say. The 1.0's are also the 2022 boards while the 2.0's are the 2023 boards. Hope that helps! :)
Thanks for the review! I just got this as an early birthday present. Can’t wait to try it out. Hopefully tomorrow if the rain holds off in the morning here in southern New England.
Thanks! I hope you have fun out there!
68 years old never paddle boarded before both a Atoll 11 Was Standing on it within 5 min and only fell 3 time in 90 minute Very Stable. and it stands out form the Rest because remember this one Rule! KISS! I am extremely shaky still after three uses but that is not the board that is my inexperience, and that will change.
It gets better with experience! I promise you! This coming from a rather balance challenged individual myself! haha
I just got this board 67 years old First time Paddle I was standing right away only had to clime on twice in a 90 min first try. Even with No Experience I can feel and see the quality The Simple Finish make it Stand out against all the Bright Flashy Boards, it stands out/alone by not Standing Out. Cool like Bogart.
Glad to hear you had such a great experience on the Atoll 11! It definetly is one of the easier paddle boards to stand on and its speed is pretty decent too!
I've had the Monterey since January 2023 and its starting to fall apart. The main fin box is peeling off, the rear strap is coming away from the paddle board, glue is unravelling at spots around the paddle board. BTW the Actions Mounts accept only M8 screws. Good luck finding accessories with such a screw thread. Only Nixy stocks them, but the range is limited, and they don't ship internationally. Amazon does not sell them. Oh, there are conversion kits, but they don't sit well. It looks good, but not worth the trouble, buy something else!
I'm sorry to hear about that. I've had a few Nixy's over the years and the only complaint I have is that the glue from the deck pad on my Newport is starting to peel a bit in certain spots. Have you contacted Nixy about these problems? I ususally found their customer service is pretty good for their SUPs. I have found that Nixy can house iRocker accessores as well as I've used my friends iRocker Cup holder before. What accessories were you trying to mount on there and from where?
Thanks for this. Just bought this sup and have so much to learn. Also, I live in Coquitlam so local help is cool.
Nice! Its a great SUP depending on what you use it for but I would say overall it did surprise me and had pretty good stability for a SUP of its price range. I'll definetly be hitting up Buntzen and Sasamat lake this summer! See you out there! :)
