Who needs AI when we have these guys :) I'll start it off,,,FormHard
Aha Hugh, well we know you watched it to the end! Excellent thank you.. much more to ask real people! :)
Love the videos!!
Glad you like them!
I love this. It’s so fascinating. Thank you.
Thank you for watching Zee... :)
Thanks for this, gave me some good inspiration Atb Bruce
Thanks Bruce, glad it helped you on your way.. best wishes, Sarah
Looks good but it's a bit hard to see what's happening because the activity is underneath the title/caption that stays on the screen throughout.
Hi Carol - good point, thank you, we will re-do!
In all videos I've found about ageing or weathering leather everyone's using really light coloured leather but I'm looking to give my laptop case/bag an aged patina and it's made from goat leather and it's brown. Not super dark but still - a lot darker than the leather in this video. How would I go about weathering it?
That is a great question - I suggest distressing it, use some fine sandpaper over areas to scratch the surface you may find you get a lighter shade underneath the colour. Also old leather has shiny patches from wear and use so use our Eco-Flo Antique gel and over-dye and polish. I think you will get some good results with these two combinations.
Dyeing vs dieing, I was very confused there for a bit. What do leathers have to do with dieing? Turns out not much, unless you are David Carradine.
They're both spelled the same way
😂very good!
Lady rocks and done a few really great explanatory leatherwork video, keep them coming
Thank you for your support! Will do
Thanks for your video. I bought a pair of peeling vegan dr Martens . Stripped the shoes because i knew the rest would come of too. Do i have to deglaze anyway (dont have any,) or would going over them with a bit of aceton be enough?
Hi, to be honest we don't have a lot of experience with non-leather - they will be a plastic... if the surface has a rough texture then it wouldn't be necessary, perhaps try the back heel strip and test it? Acetone might melt the plastic surface, if it appears too smooth and shiny it might be better to lightly sand with a fine grade sandpaper.
Interesting... Would I get the same effect using these on wax hardened clothing leather?
Ooh no idea! Could well be worth a try?
what is the name of that hole punch?
Hi it is one of my favourites :) - the Stitching Spring Hole Punch - identityleathercraft.com/products/stitching-hole-spring-punch?_pos=5&_sid=f7c7740f2&_ss=r
Hi. Thanks for your interesting video. Nice artwork.👌Is it possible to finish off the painting on shoes, be it on synthetic materials or leather, with a coat of acrylic varnish used for paintlngs in general? Or even vinyl glue? I have so much of that, and don't really want to buy a one off varnish just for a small painting on a shoe! Thanks for any tips. 🙏🌟
I would imagine so, leather finishes are designed to flex and not crack but most are acrylic based, usually I say to test out first so you might want to a scrap of leather and try it, giving it a good bit of bending and stretching to see what happens! :)
@IdentityLeathercraft Thanks for your reply. 🙂 Yes, I thought of doing that. Have to find a piece of leather! I don't have a scrap of the goretex type, simili nappa fabric I painted on the front part of a pair of shoes. I did forget to use alcohol first. The shoes are brand new. It absorbed a part of the first coat well. The 2nd is shinier. It's the front part, not really bendable. But, I do need to try the psint and varnish on some fabric anyways, just to make sure. 😉👌
Absolutely beautiful!
Great and very easy to follow video 👌👍
thank you - beginning to see all sorts of fun things to make with this leather...
You are very quiet.
Love to try this
Will this leather take a brass stamp and leave a good, deep impression?
Yes I have been testing it - I stamped it as it was, and got a good impression. The waxes in the leather seem to work to hold it really well, there is an image on the website to show Peter's dancing skeleton stamp (he did this with a press) and I have done with the hand stamps...
Nice tip! Waxy leather is real easy to cut.
Great videos and so educating in this leather crafting genre 👋😲
always so much more to know and learn, thank you for joining us on our journey!
I popped along on the Sunday for a couple of hours and listened to one of Peter's talks - very informative 5 ⭐ Oracle of knowledge. Great event, well done to the organisers, helpers, stall holders and especially the people who entered the 'Makers' competition. Very inspirational! I will be definitely be back next year and hopefully enter the competition myself.
Thank you - Peter is a leather legend! We look forward to seeing you next year..
Thank you. The video was really interesting for someone taking up this hobby.
Thank you for your reply - there is more information on this on this link - including a tool and leather list - identityleathercraft.com/pages/project-making-a-leather-apron, best wishes, Sarah
Found this company by pure chance , for Leather supplies tooling etc , great they also do simple and explanatory video's keep it up great
ah thank you so much for your encouragement!
Good job!
Excellent video and tutorial well done
Ahh thank you, very much appreciated!
I love the feel of leather, the way the leather improves with age and that wonderful smell 😊
Solvent is the way to go , water base is crap tried it on a leather office chair , two tubs and useless
Hi Dave - yes very much the case for over dyeing upholstery due to the finish , if you haven't deglazed the solvent helps the colour to penetrate - as with anything it depends on what you are colouring and what the leather is - the main premise in the video for natural undyed leather but for anything that is an 'upholstery' type leather we would suggest using the Fiebing's Pro Dyes.
Thank you for creating this! I plan to turn two shoulder straps if different widths into one long cross-body strap. I think I will do this by adding hardware and your video clarified this for me!
happy we could help - adding hardware always looks attractive
@@IdentityLeathercraft I'm almost done now! It's good enough for me!
Looks really good
Great video, but I would, really like to see the technique on a large piece of leather.
Hi Carole - thank you, a good idea, we will see if we can sort something...
Thank you. Question. I have a natuzzi leather sofa that my wife to change the color. What product would you recommend. I am an experienced commercial painter for 45 yrs. So I know how to apply.
Hi - we would be happy to help - can you email more information on the sofa (existing colour and colour you are aiming for, and type of finish already present) and we can have a think, mail to info@identityleathercraft.com ..
Solvent based products can be reflowed at a later date which is super handy in my field of classic & vintage cars, water base will just build up with every application eventually rendering the leather overloaded with product.
That is very interesting, good to have a choice for different purposes..
Where can I find the pattern please and do you have a toddler pattern?
Hi Ann - if you follow the link here there is a download - the tutorial gives you a template, once you have the principle you should be able to scale down for a child size which would be very cute - good luck and happy leathercrafting! identityleathercraft.com/pages/project-sheepskin-slippers
Sorry I couldn't understand what kind of oil ?
Hi - so sorry if I didn't mention it - I used Neatsfoot oil compound here in the video but I have also done using olive oil...
I've been struggling lately and I've been making small cowboy/ Indian style satchels and bags to sell here in this small town I live in here in Tx. I've about use up most big pieces . I tried aging dabbing a thick blend of coffee and water around the edges. It definitely didn't work on that Tan pig skin. I have dark chocolate brown left more than tan now. I can't afford to buy the things needed so I try home stuff . Lol... Even shoe polish.. on sample pieces.. I really need to find somebody close to re-up on deerskin.. I'm down to scraps almost. I lost my home and am living in the living cal motel. $350 a week . Expensive to me. I have a bad back. And it's hard to find work in a small town... All filled up around here.. I'm sinking fast.anywaus . Thank you. If anyone knows here to get deer skin leather cheap and sees this. Please let me know. I broke my best needle last night. Now u only have a big half round one . Don't.care for that one m ,It Leeves to big a hole in thin skin. There's a old country store here that sells stuff rustic. I'm gonna get a pile of stuff made and take them down there in hopes to be able to hang and sell out of his store. He's a old retiers Marshal , still carrys the gun on his Hip . He looks like an old cowboy out of a old western movie .. so my bags and satchels should fit right in. If I keep them looking that style.anyways thanks. Trying to keep my head above water. , sinking fast. I need a miracle..to make rent. Less than 5 days. To raise $350..
Amazing advice, very useful and right when I need it. Checked your website. OMG! There are so many things i want to order! Do you ship to Canada?
Hi Natalia - thank you so much for your lovely comments, yes we can ship to Canada - the shipping is automatically calculated on checkout, just be aware there may be customs duties to pay...
Thank you to Laurence from Shedtime for giving the real name and story behind this little character!
What a great idea. Many thanks Sarah.
thanks Mark, hope you are well, best wishes from all of us...
What the thickness of this leather?
The leather used in the video is from our Vegetable Tanned calf leather, and is around 1.0-1.2mm. :)
Great job. Such a nice thing to do.
Thank you for the video tutorial. I loved wearing these when I was a kid and missed them so much :) one question (although I'm late to the party). I decided to add about 2mm veg tan to the sole. Do I glue bottom part to sole and then stich to the boot or should I stich up bottom and then glue the sole to cover it?
Hi - good question! You can do it both ways, reaching in through the slipper and finding the holes through the fleece may be tricky though. - either way make sure your holes are pre done in the veg tan sole and are a good open size so that sewing is made easier. Happy leathercrafting :)
@@IdentityLeathercraft I wanted to give some update regarding progress. I decided to glue bottom to the sole and then punch through everything at once. I also added grove for a thread at the bottom. Unfortunatelly on the website you still have your test pattern on so back doesnt match to sides... Also sides are longer than they should be if intented for 3 part- there was enough lenght of sheepskin on each side to completely ignore back piece and just glue and stiched 2 side pieces together. Regardless- thank you very much for sharing this pattern. I love my new slippers :)
@@gitruihgreat feedback thank you - we will make sure we update the pattern on the website. I think I am off to add some soles to mine, have just started wearing them again #cosyfeet ! Best wishes, Sarah
What size does that come in? Thanks

Absolutely Inspiring I could watch these all day x
ah thank you Tracey - let us know how you get on with your make!
I had not thought of the oil as another way to hold the dye, very cool! Thank you😁👍
Have fun trying it out... would love to see how your comes out
I’m curious as to what makes it better for the environment. Is it still a plastic-based glue but being able to dilute it makes it ‘better’, or is there more to it than that?
@@IdentityLeathercraft Thanks Sarah!
Hi Anne, thank you for the question. The glue is a synthetic rubber (polychloroprene which is an oil derivative), however it is water based rather than solvent based. It is also manufactured here in the UK. I have now put a more technical description on the product details on the website. identityleathercraft.com/products/permabond-leathercraft-glue
