    I bought an identical unit 2 years ago. I used it for a couple of days and got tired and left it in my shed. A year later took it out to do more work but somehow the engine couldn’t turn. I left it there. A year later, this year I finally got it out to find out why the engine doesn’t turn. I knew something probably got stuck. My concern (worry) was if a nut got loose and fell inside. I started with opening the pulley cover to see if I can detect the issue. Nothing out of ordinary, except when I turn round blade it stopped turning. While putting the front cover and screws back, by a wrong move I noticed the rubber fuel line between the fuel tank and carburetor was simply cut!! So I ended up replacing the worn out fuel line with unused fuel line I had from my Mazda pickup truck. I cut about 12 inches of this fuel line and had to use two generic clamps for both sides of the fuel line. My main concern: Given the passage of time and huge vibration this machine experience, plus every manufacturer’s incentive to save money, by restoring to lower life expectancy of parts, I think whenever possible, suspected parts should be replaced with much higher quality parts in the market. Sorry! I forgot to mention what the heck was wrong with the engine not turning! After fixing the fuel line issue, I opened the rear part. It turned out a small piece of wood, about less than 3 inches long and 1.5 inch diameter was the culprit! As soon as I pulled it out the engine could freely turns.

    I just purchased a 2020 slightly used 457CC 18HP. looked new! 10 hours later the fuel tank mounting bolts tore away the flimsey sheet metal from the tank and the mounting bracket cracked in half. Not sure what let go first. No replacement tank is available. Very disappointed. Buyer beware. If parts are not available is can't be a good deal! Update : 5-18-024 I would never recommend this brand. Now, all of the bolts that hold the engine to the flywheel housing have COMPLETELY back out. 18HP works great when running Before buying this brand I would recommend all interested to try and contact the manufacturer/distributor... Oh yeah, there's a contact number allright but it's just a loop back to the beginning (Canada). If you like you can email them but there is a charge for someone to answer your questions. To sum it up: the fuel tank mounting flanges tore away from the tank - had to weld that; Fuel tank to engine mounting bosses, one bolt snapped off, and 2 of them tore the threads out of the aluminum body - couldn't reuse the mounting bosses so I hade too remotely mount the fuel tank;; muffler cracked and fell off - welded that; sharpening blades by DISASSEMBLING the entire feed area; fuel tank developed a pin hole leak on the top of the tank - fixed with aluminum tape; and now the engine has separated from the body.. Mind you this was new in the summer of 2020 and has roughly 40 hours on it. I don't cuss but the thing is a POS!

    Hi I have had this machine for just 2 years and it won't run anymore. I was chipping and then the engine just stopped. I cleaned the carb changed the spark plug. It started but wouldn't speed up and then just stopped after like 10-30 secs. The fuel seems flowing, b/c I disassembled the carb a few times and gas was in there every time. Any thought? I couldn't imagine that a new carb is needed. What is strange to me is the throttle is in max position at the start. Is this what you have too? I wonder if something is wrong with the governor assembly/spring. Thanks.

    appreciate the time and work taken to make this video. you covered most of the bases previously concerned about - the wet leaves part, especially! ordered one from home depot today in large part because of this video, as well as others here on youtube. curious about moving the chipper around property - looks like it might be a little cumbersome moving around uneven terrain? thanks again and happy chipping/shredding

    Nice review. In in south FL. Palm fronds are the toughest. I had an old Yardmaster 5hp that did ok, but it quit starting. Replaced carb and nothing. I had the Powerhorse 15hp, it’s a dog. Belt drive chewed up belts, didn’t spit mulch out and always clogged. I have a lot of ficus hedges, traveler palms, areca, and coconut palms. I usually rough chop the palms with a machete, but this is on my list. Also DR has one similar. Not sure.

    Can I put leaves with twigs and small branches with leaves in the top??? "Leaves ONLY" is that a joke or just a CYA warning ---most of the machines like this say 1/2 inch in the top 3 inches in the bottom --- I have twigs with leaves attached

    I do have same model, I did notice the unit is low and hurts my back with constant feeding the branches, my solution was to use two small pallets to raise the unit up so I don’t have to be bent over when feeding branches. That took a strain off my back. I am 6’ tall and being bent is a killer. If you raise the unit do make sure it locks in place so unit does not vibrate off the raised platform. I used mine yesterday for first time to clean heavily intertwined brush that was about 30*15 feet and 7 feet tall. To break it up we used machete and chainsaws. Then we build a pile and fed it through the feeder. Ran the machine for about fours in one hour intervals with a 15 minute cool down for the machine. Worked like a charm. Will finish rest of bush today.

    Thanks for sharing video, I notice big leaves, have you tried wood bark through the leave chute. Has anyone attempted tree bark through the chute? Looking to see if chipper that can handle bark through leave chute.

    • @mrxenosith8023
      @mrxenosith8023 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      FYI, I tried wood bark with my same chipper. I broke them down to manageable pieces since 12" and greater did not seem right. I used dried and moist bark and it got chewed up through the top loader. Just don't through a bunch of pieces at once. I dropped piece by piece while keeping the chute closed. I would toss/push a piece through the open slot. This worked for me and now I know I can use old bark and new bark on the top chute.

    Hi 👋 can I know the model number of the BRUSHMASTER SHREDDER PLEASE.

  • @tdon1661
    @tdon1661 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video... glad I found it. I'm trying to decide on a chipper shredder for my 1.5 acre property that is very overgrown. I'm between this model and the Yardmax 6.5HP Chipper Shredder. I like that the Brush Master has more power for chipping (nearly twice the HP) and it seems to do better with small material than the Yardmax because of the leaf hopper. However, there appears to be a few big downsides of the Brush Master... the heigh of the chipping chute means you have to constantly bend over to insert sticks. That can take a toll. Also, seems like it does not handle branches with twists, knobs, forks etc. very well - would you agree? Looked like you had to manually force any branch that wasn't perfectly straight. The Yardmax has a nice tall and wide chute which is very attractive to me. Very undecided between the two (they apprear to be the best two options I've found)=

    • @mathall4541
      @mathall4541 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Donaldson I’m glad this video was able to help. Your right about the sticks not being perfectly straight they do need a little more force or it needs to be finessed a little. And the bending over can be a little much at times.
