This form will pretty much always make Aku get launched into the ground instead of outward at high percents. It's just a way to tank attacks. Since most of the top tiers have ridiculous range it's not enitrely useful because you'll just get hit again. Aku has slightly better use with his grounded form in air. Sometimes he can diagonal laser and most easiest is vertical laser. To achieve grounded Aku in air just fall through a platform with a diagonal downwards angle (like shield dropping angle in Melee). He'll be all crumpled up and once lasering it'll be vertical laser. Diagonal laser is still somewhat of a mystery but generally it may have something to do with magic shifting.

I'l tell the real problem here. Vilgax thinks he's Aku and only has one move, which happens to have invulnerablility. Vilgax is so scared to get hit that he gets hit. Shield isn't supposed to be an approach, it's a shield! It has slower start up, and more endlag than all aerials. This is an easy win for Aku. This was also before Vilgax's down smash was ever touched apparently, which could've demolished Aku so many times in this match because that move has some strange collision designs, but it didn't because it wasn't used ever and instead shield was opted. If you want the problem Aku is having, he isn't fast falling enough to cancel laser and follow up with more lasers. Also this is really picky (I don't do it commonly because it's very quick input), but he isn't doing double lasers after short hops either.
